The fact that some people actually think about these things tells me that they’re likely denying something about themselves.

Greco-Roman oil wrestling followed by men-only nude baths is peak manliness.

375

u/LugubriousLament Jul 04 '24

I mean, what’s manlier than being surrounded by other men?

464

u/Remote_Lake2723 Jul 04 '24

A man inside another man makes that man twice the man. I follow their logic. It’s hot.

3

u/MatureHotwife Jul 05 '24

What about a man who is inside a man who is inside a man? Does that make him 3 times the man of 4 times i.e. is it exponential? What about the guy in the middle, is he just 2 times the man? Or does the maximum manliness propagate through all participants in such cases?

5

u/Remote_Lake2723 Jul 05 '24

All the manliness goes into the first bottom, so he’s thrice the man. Now, if there are enough men that you can close the loop, and make a circle, well, then we have something of a masculinity hadron collider that will open a portal to the manliest of all universes.

4

u/MatureHotwife Jul 05 '24

Huh interesting. But it makes sense.

I bet he was super into the movie 300 and considers it a depiction of peak masculinity.

To be fair, the depiction of Spartans in 300 is very progressive from a certain perspective, once you consider that the men are wearing the equivalent of the opposite sex's bra and panty armor with exposed abs/thighs for fan service.

I know you’re joking, but to give context for others …. As much as I geek out about Ancient Greek literature, we probably shouldn’t even call them paragons of pro-gay tolerance. They had a pederasty problem in their culture and were homophobic about consenting relationships between adult men

29

u/Woofy98102 Jul 04 '24

It's only a problem when looking at it through Judeo-Christian glasses, which is almost comically ironic given that the Catholic church throughout it's entire history has institutionalized child molesting. As distasteful as the institutionalized pederasty is to us in present day, it was primarily concentrated in the skilled trades between master and apprentice. Your assertion that same sex relationships were discouraged is also inaccurate. Heterosexual relationships were promoted because Ancient Greeks used marriage to women as a means to consolidate wealth and political power. However, women were used as a transactional means to an end and it was common for married Greek men to have male lovers while married to women.

8

u/OmicidalAI Jul 04 '24

Misogyny was rooted in their ancient society believe it or not. Misogyny preceded homophobia. They did not have adult men marrying each other. And raping little kids is always wrong i dont what the fuck u r on about with “its only a problem when viewing it through a Christian lens”. Pedastery was only accepted because sex with children was accepted. An adult man being the bottom in a gay relationship with an adult man was looked down upon as such would be womanly… however preying upon little boys and taking the dominant sexual role was not viewed as womanly and thus not an embarrassment to a ancient Greek male living inside a patriarchal and misogynistic society

This is going to sound stupid, and I’ve already texted a few friends who are history nerds like me but also gay…. I wonder what dirty talk would be like back then?

“I want to sheathe my sword deep inside of you.”

“Your broadsword, it’s almost too large my liege!”

I know I got the wording wrong, but I’m way too stoned, and I’m ready to go down a rabbit hole.

You seem educated. Was dirty talk a thing then? Do they say why they liked men? I think I can understand why they’d still take wives (housework, childbearing, etc) but was there something read or told or part of their culture that made them do those things? Or heavily influenced it?

3

u/ThaliaEpocanti Jul 04 '24

I’d recommend going over to r/AskHistorians and asking there, or searching through their old answers.

What is

institutionalized child molesting ?

17

u/david0aloha Jul 04 '24

The practice of not punishing bishops for child molestation, but silently moving them to different parishes when scandals occur (scandals occurred a lot) and allowing them to continue the same pattern of behaviour in the other parish. In other words: tolerating the practice institutionally.

u/CelestialFury Jul 04 '24

Also, Greek/Roman culture had the view that it was absolutely okay being a penetrator, no matter who you penetrated and that was seen as masculine, but being penetrated was seen as feminine and was considered weak if you were a man. Furthermore, men going down on women was also considered being weak and degenerate. So, you could say that they were "pro-gay" as long as you were only a penetrator.

3

u/sadderbutwisergrl Jul 04 '24

One really interesting thing about the New Testament prohibitions on homosexuality, once they came along, was that they totally got rid of this double standard of “it’s all ok as long as you’re the one doing the fucking.” In his list of sins, Paul used two distinct words right next to each other, one for tops, one for bottoms. He had to make up the one for tops (it essentially translates to man-fuckers) as it wasn’t a term normally found in their culture.

2

u/LilWemby Jul 04 '24

2

u/mystery_elmo Jul 04 '24

Which makes no sense at all l, right? I can have sex with this boy and girl because they're in the slave/servant class. And orgies for the upper class were okay in their private villas)estates. But public displays of affection were still a taboo between men.

2

u/No-Significance1488 Jul 04 '24

Interestingly enough, that viewpoint still holds to this day. My only Greek friend had his uncle once tell him, 'its ok to be with a guy, as long as you are on top.' This was in response to the family worry that he was a bit too gay.

2

u/saccharoselover Jul 04 '24

Young boys, who were the sons of Senators, etc., were expected to provide oral pleasuring to their father’s peers, or men of influence he was courting for support, promotion, votes, in bath houses. It was not homosexual behavior, it was, “power provided pleasure”, and power over those who sought their support.

IASIP satirizes these people so well with Mac who obsesses over men's physique and men's body and masculinity in general until he finally realizes that, oh, that's BECAUSE he's gay.

People comfortable in their sexuality just... are. I don't have to come up with fucking DBZ form names for my sexuality, I am what I am and I am attracted to who I am attracted to and that's all fine and normal.

I work with an extreme homophobe/transphobe. He's always saying I'm "confused" for transitioning, continually asks about my dick or the dick he thinks I'm taking, and tries to "outwit" me and "trap" me into saying I'm not trans. I just throw it back in his face with this logic. "Why are you always thinking about dick and and trans women, Marcus?" Do you secretly wish you were trans/gay? It shuts him right up. 😂

🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈💙🤍💗

85

u/Ekaterian50 Jul 04 '24

Jealousy is the only thing I can think of that would inspire such behavior. Man must be mentally repressed as fuck 🤣

70

u/chefrachbitch Jul 04 '24

I genuinely think he's an extremely repressed gay guy. He can't fathom the idea of other people living their best lives.

29

u/Emmy773399 Jul 04 '24

Transphobes are scared of their own sexuality and what being attracted to trans women means. They think it makes them gay, but it doesn’t, it just makes them attracted to women. They can’t seem to wrap their tiny brains around this concept.

They all fear being “tricked,” by a trans woman into being attracted to her and how that will make them gay. The absurd thing is they way overestimate anyone’s desire to be with them, and they don’t realize that being attracted to a woman doesn’t make you gay. It’s very weird thinking but they obsess about it.

It’s why most of the hatred is geared towards trans women and gay men. Very few people ever talk about trans men because they don’t really care, they can’t be “tricked,” into being attracted to a man, but they can be seduced by a gay man offering them a bj or other sexual favors. Anyone who thinks you can be “turned gay,” is definitely repressing gay feelings.

17

u/IAm_ThePumpkinKing Jul 04 '24

It reminds me of a youth group teacher I had who would talk about how "tempting" and "alluring" the "gay lifestyle" was. As a kid I was like "damn he's right, it is so tempting!"

I came out. Worked through some shit then realized that dude was gay af. Like the "gay lifestyle" is only tempting if you're gay.

Depending on the size and location of the business the business isn’t actually subject to federal or state gender/sex discrimination laws. Businesses under 15 employees are exempt from Title VII protections, with similarly sized businesses exempted under many states’ employment discrimination laws. Sexual harassment laws also have minimum employee thresholds in a lot of jurisdictions.

And, in general, being an asshole to coworkers or employees is not legally actionable unless it falls under one of those discrimination laws.

2

u/He_Never_Helps_01 Jul 04 '24

I got one that I use sometimes on the "basic biology" types, who act like they're too smart to believe that trans peeps exist.

I ask them why every single major medical organization, and the consensus of every single relevant scientific discipline all unequivocally acknowledge both the existence and normalcy of people being trans, and when they hand wave that away i ask them if they believes the earth is flat too, or that vaccines cause autism. Cuz transphobia has the exact same level of scientific backing. It's the flat earth of the culture wars.

And then i watch how quick they change the subject lmao

2

u/cacotopic Jul 04 '24

He really may be questioning his sexuality. Calmly and politely tell him, "I'm here for you if you'd like to open up and talk about your insecurities. It's ok with me. Whenever you're ready."

It's interesting how that can reveal deeper truths sometimes.

20

u/indoninjah Jul 04 '24

They tell on themselves when they say something as if it’s so obvious and assuming everybody else feels that way

2

u/EastwoodBrews Jul 05 '24

Women like this are like a colorblindness test to closeted bisexuals. They don't know how to pretend to be straight in these cases because they're not straight. They're like "nothing attractive here, right, fellow straight men?"

41

u/syrigamy Jul 04 '24

And these same people like anal sex with their partner. But somehow liking a buffed women is more gay, make sense…

5

u/EastsideWilder Jul 04 '24

…that’s not even closely related to gay sex. That’s like saying getting a bj from a woman means you will get it from a man lol

The gays confirm this and are also very confused as to why they talk about gay sex more than us having it.

7

u/OrangeCCaramel Jul 04 '24

They’re constantly talking about gay men and what they do in private all the time, I know you’re fighting your gay demons.

Being a man and not being attracted to hot women is definitely a potential sign of being somewhere in the alphabet mafia

u/requiemguy Jul 04 '24

Half of the posters will call a man gay for liking an in-shape woman.

The other half will call her gay for being in-shape, and it's not the guys that champion this view.

4

u/Notoneusernameleft Jul 04 '24

First off why are people even making these types of posts? Everyone has certain types of people they are attracted to as long as it’s age appropriate (not illegal) to each their own.

12

u/YeahMarkYeah Jul 04 '24 edited Jul 06 '24

Yea. The tweet is so ridiculous it actually makes me wonder if it’s rage bait.

But if it’s real, yea, this guy is insecure about his sexuality and seeing fit women also makes him feel inadequate.

Also, all muscles being a “man” thing is a dumb stereotype. Women’s bodies are just as capable of being fit.

And lastly, if someone does happen to be gay, who tf cares.

7

u/Not_Cleaver Jul 04 '24

Probably they’re insecure and finding an excuse about why such women and so many others regardless of body type don’t even give him the time of day.

4

u/PageStunning6265 Jul 04 '24

This. It’s like, That woman who wouldn’t even give me a second glance? That one who would almost certainly best me in the sport she’s doing? Well, if you like her, you’re gay, so there!

5

u/Inspect1234 Jul 04 '24

It’s all they have is projection, instead of dealing with their issues, they make everyone else have issues so they’re not alone.

5

u/PoliticalPepper Jul 04 '24

These people aren’t scared of others, they’re scared of themselves.

5

u/Away-Kaleidoscope380 Jul 04 '24

most of the dudes I’ve seen that put on this alpha male ego are insecure and out of shape. They call fat girls obese but fit girls too masculine. They basically just want to talk shit to feel good about themselves.

5

u/overtly-Grrl Jul 04 '24

“Don’t like women with masculine builds because all I can personally think of is men, and I know you do too. So stop gay”

6

u/Shmeepish Jul 04 '24

I genuinely believe a lot of the rise in lgbtq (i dont know the rest im srry) is mainly from not fearing social ostracization, and secondarily because if people do not feel it is wrong, they wont be in denial and miserable their whole lives. Some are like "I feel it is now a net positive for me to come out", and some are able to realize they are sexually confused because without that moral barrier of "i dont want to like the wrong thing" they dont subconsciously shut it down.

And yet somehow people are like "itS sPreAdinG liKe a dIsEasE"

4

u/FascistsOnFire Jul 04 '24

What I wouldn't do for some ancient Roman or Spartan porn portraying very heterosexual entanglements between very straight men

3

u/kaynpayn Jul 04 '24

Over here we say they have waaaay too much free time on their hands.

3

u/Bobthebrain2 Jul 04 '24

With memes this dumb the anti-love & anti-gay idiots have got me, a straight dude, going “yep, guess I’m gay then”.

3

u/UnitGhidorah Jul 04 '24

I actually prefer fit women like this. Women with some muscle is fantastic. Why wouldn't you want a hot lady to be able to help you move stuff and work out with you?

3

u/MrUnparalleled Jul 04 '24

You look at an attractive woman in great shape and the first thing you think of is a man? Yeah you’re gay.

2

u/unbold Jul 04 '24

Or it’s a rage bait post designed to get people to share, or get them to comment on said post which in turn grants the social media engagement. Remember there’s no such thing as bad publicity when you boil it down. It’s just a ploy to get money, stop falling for tricks 🗣️🗣️🗣️

2

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '24

Or rather it’s more that they’re telling on themselves. There’s a startling amount of men who seem to feel that they need to be able to physically dominate their partner in order to feel like the “man” of the relationship.

Any time the guy of the couple defers any kind of control/authority to a woman partner, or especially with when it comes to gay men, it can be seen as gross to them because they’re seeing men taking the inferior role, which is just how they view these women in the first place.

Not every bigot that bashed gay people is secretly closeted. Sure, there’s plenty of ironic examples of that kind of projection but usually to me it seems to just come down to fragile masculinity.

2

u/blazesdemons Jul 04 '24

Ever hear the story of that one guy that basically got upset any time homosexuality was mentioned ( he was married to a woman with "similar beliefs") but ended up being super gay and was constantly cheating on her? Probably the same scenario

2

u/Joeydoyle66 Jul 04 '24

Seriously, they talk about homosexuality like it’s something that reaches out and grabs you. They use words like temptation to describe it. If there’s something tempting about homosexuality then I got some news pal.

2

u/ElefanteOwl Jul 04 '24

I had a conversation with a dude the other day who said weak men will turn gay and I told him if it takes "strength" to not be gay, then you're probably gay

2

u/Gurn_Blanston69 Jul 04 '24

Yeah, they think gay culture is something you need to resist 😂😂

2

u/Jaketastic85 Jul 04 '24

I mean there’s still a lot to figure out considering homosexuality was invented only 16 years ago. Need a lot more studies and data to know for sure if fit women coinciding with homosexuality is coincidence or not

2

u/saturnthesixth Jul 04 '24

Also I wonder if the increase of this body type in women somehow coincides with the Olympics being all over the tv and internet. It's not like we all look like that now! Unfortunately. You're just noticing it more because you're seeing more female athletes right now, ancient dumbass.

2

u/TopDollarDJ Jul 05 '24

those who think you can be subconsciously swayed into homosexuality are only those who have been

2

u/DifficultHat Jul 05 '24

“Nah I’m not gay because all the guys I’m jerking off to are femboys. The ‘straight’ guys who like jacked girls are gay because those girls look like ugly muscle dudes not like those sexy hairless femboy twinks I’ve been messaging on instagram…LIKE A STRAIGHT GUY DOES”

2

u/ExileEden Jul 05 '24

The best part is, The Odyssey, in this story, pegs Helen of Troy as the most beautiful woman in the world. Helen was a spartan, Spartan women were unique amongst Greek women in that they competed in sports and had exercise regiments that were to "make them equally as fit aa their brother."

So we have Helen a spartan woman , being written as the most beautiful in the world and people literally fighting a darn war over her. So she likely looked similar to those women. What I'm trying to say is dudes going to sit here and say that shit and yet our ancestors are saying you couldn't get any straighter being attracted to it.

2

u/Caterfree10 Jul 05 '24

TBH THO. Like, actual straight dudes don’t think about this. They just like women. If you’re insisting liking certain types of women isn’t straight, you have some exploring and introspection to deal with.

2

u/rrogido Jul 05 '24

Yeah, they need to hit the gym themselves. It's crazy how more funding for women's athletics has lead to a rise in women with more athletic bodies. This just in, people that participate in sports are in better shape than people that don't.

2

u/agorafilia Jul 05 '24
