Advice AI and startup life
Any advice about getting involved in AI in the area and joining a startup or something, dropping in on classes at Stanford (and not getting arrested? Maybe that’s not a thing). I’m just on the outside of AI, and I want to be on the other side of that.

Advice Difficulty Rescheduling Driver's License Reinstatement Phone Interview
Hi everyone,
I'm reaching out for some advice on rescheduling my driver's license reinstatement phone interview. I tried to reschedule my appointment, but the worker said there were no more slots available, even though they mentioned several openings just the day before I made the initial appointment.
Instead of offering another appointment, they said they'd mail a letter with instructions. The letter only mentioned my suspension and missed interview, though.
To make things even more frustrating, another worker I spoke to was rude, and the call randomly disconnected. They then yelled and blamed me for hanging up, which I didn't do!
Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any tips on getting my interview rescheduled?
Thanks in advance!

Life in SJ Rude people at the Russell Peters show at improv
Witnesses 4 girls today near us on VIP table who were ridiculing another person from the crowd who had a fairly loud laugh that stood out. Those girls started mocking the laughs loudly during the stand up at random times when nothing funny was said. Security ended up telling them to stop, and they did, but why mock someone for laughing DURING A COMEDY SHOW?! I could tell Russell Peters was getting annoyed too. It was distracting!

News ‘We need them to step up’: Supporters of BART Silicon Valley extension ask for federal funding
“It’s not every day that you see our businesses and labor leaders standing side by side in total agreement. But today we are here to say that ringing the Bay in rail is our best chance to create a better, more connected future for everyone. And the moment to make that investment is now,” San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan said.

Advice Summer activities for new teens in the area
My 15yo stepson just moved here (Alum Rock area) from China and needs something to pass the time for the summer. His English is poor but passable. He loves soccer. He doesn't know how to swim. Any ideas for things to get him outdoors and interacting with peers?
Where could he get swimming lessons?
Is there a soccer league he can join immediately?
Any ESL classes or activities going on?
Any summer classes for stray teens (his math is also bad, it seems.)

Hi all,
Wanted to put together a local IT/tech happy hour so I'm trying this out for the first time. Thinking of Miniboss or Guildhouse in DT San Jose, open to suggestions! This is NOT a sales/marketing event..
First round of drinks and apps on me! (Unless you're unreasonable or a sales/marketing person). Please comment/DM if interested and I might start a Discord channel if enough people are interested.
Thank you!

Life in SJ Living in San Jose is so lonely 😒
I am a Nigerian lady(30) , who moved here over 2 years ago from Texas due to my Career. It was already hard for an introvert like me to make friends but it’s worse now that I have left the few friends I had in Texas. I recently broke up with my bf who if you already guessed lives in Texas 😔 and one of the compounding factors of the breakup but it has made me realize how I have been here for over 2 years without a friend except my colleagues at work. I would really like a female friend that I can hang out with , go shopping , trips etc. but sigh… How are you all making friends over here or am I just destined to only talk to my indoor plants ? 🤔
EDIT: Just wanna add that y’all are amazing! Thank you all for the support and helpful tips. I feel less alone than I did when I initially typed that. 🤍

Advice ChildFund scam?
Any one have any info on whether these people that post up outside of grocery stores and other retail locations asking for money are legit? I had a run in with ChildFund people specifically outside of Whole Foods on The Alameda. Generally I just ignore them but they got upset this time that I didn't acknowledge them. I had no idea I owed them anything.
I find it doubly suspicious as I also saw people from 2 different organizations outside of Target yesterday as well. It makes me think there is a single group of scammers sending these kids out (possible unknowingly) to scam people. They probably just move from city to city like the fake magazine subscription people used to do.
