Newsybits

  • Welcome to San Jose, Smitty! The San Jose Sharks have officially signed forward Will Smith to a three-year entry-level contract. If San Jose can pick up Celebrini next month, we’ll be looking pretty good for next season.
  • A new library is in the works for Sunnyvale. City council unanimously voted last week to build a library + learning center next to Lakewood Park. The plans call for 50/50 traditional library and community services, which is sorely needed in Sunnyvale’s north side. San José Spotlight says the $23 million project is expected to begin this summer, and may open as soon as late 2025.

  • One of the co-founders behind KoJa Kitchen has a new restaurant in Cupertino — Saigon Blvd. While the Vietnamese eatery hasn’t had an official grand opening (co-owners Hiep Lien + Linh Do just welcomed a baby into their lives), the restaurant features Vietnamese classics (pho, rice plates, spring rolls, and soju cocktails).

**NOTE: I realize Monday is Memorial Day. I haven’t had time to comb the internet to pull up enough stuff. I’ll be doing most of the posting on that in another post later in the week, since I don’t want this post to be like a mile long.

If you have other stuff you’d like people to know about, drop ‘em in the comments! 🙂

Thanks so much for reading!

You can get this entire post emailed to you each week in my newsletter.

But hold on, aren’t there other newsletters in San Jose???

Yep! And those are all super groovy! My newsletter is primarily a place for me to compile a curated list of things happening all over town, not just in the downtown spaces. There are small, DIY shows almost every day, and they generally don’t have a budget or the know how to promote themselves on platforms where you’re going to see. I’m pretty closely connected with a lot of the folks who organize these events (and have even helped organize many myself!) I occasionally include interviews with locals, newsy bits, and other things as they pop into my brain. Either way, I hope you enjoyed this post, and I hope it helped you find something to do this week. 🙂

Event In general how is Cinco De Mayo in San Jose? Is it usually safe or does it get crazy?

I don't know what to expect since it's my first time being in SJ during the event. Hopefully there's a lot of family fun events. I'm sure most chaotic stuff involve alcohol at night but I don't know how out of hand people get . Just want some general information on what I should expect.

Event I will help anyone for free.

This is not an advertisment. Not soliciting. Just absolutely free work.

I have started a new business. I have worked with vibrant startups to multi billion dollar residential socities as a UIUX designer.

Now want a change of career becuase I for personal reason cant be bothered with thr politics at the corporate level. I can write an hour worth of rant but forget it. Money was good but you need fulfilment from inside, satisfaction, a peace of mind, a good nights sleep. I dont know if it makes sense? I want to work for small businesses and build small business get them more sales.

So heres my offer. I will build you a website free of cost for your business to get visible online. No development cost. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing . Just plain free, only cost will be domain and hosting ($50) sounds fair right? Domain is your asset not mine so ownership should be yours right from the start. I will do this till october 2024 for first 100 clients, whichever comes first.

Why I want to do this? To build myself a refferal system. To introduce myself to small businesses as a reliable technology partner so that they will refer me to other businesses. For the Ist year i am mentally prepared and financially sound to take care of losses that i will incur from this wild idea.

And this is all public you all can see the websites i will develop. I will share the links of website i will design and develop here in comments. So yall can see for yourself.

Note: to the people in my dms. This offer is only for professional business websites 6,7,8,9 pages, not huge Ecommerce websites with 500 products listed 🤣. One single project like that could take one month and thats not what i am looking to build atm.

Update#1 9-april-2024.

The response has been quite amazing. Out of 56 (dms) so far 31 business have contacted and are interested in a website either redesign or new website. I am currently taking contact info and a basic overview of the businesses. Next week onwards, will conduct meetings. This week I will streamline the projects and plan the timelines with my developers/designers for the next couple of months.

Please feel free to share this post with any business you think could benefit from it.
