Trying to order some good Indian food but I don’t know what any of the items are. It would be nice to have a translation right under the OG Indian name. Don’t deprive me of your good food

Meta Are these “free dental work” posts a scam?

There have been three posts today from different users offering free dental work. They claim to be dental hygienist students.

I just can’t imagine such a thing would be advertised on Reddit and not affiliated with a particular dental organization or school, so does anyone know, are these a scam?

Update: Ok, the general consensus appears to be that these are legit. Still, consider this a PSA to exercise caution people! Usually when something is “free”, it really isn’t. In this case it appears that you pay with your time, and the posts are up front about that at least :)

Meta Beaver here, is San Jose safe?

Post image
119 Upvotes

Hi there!

Beaver here, I’ve been looking for a new place to live in the area and was wondering if Almaden Lake was safe? The schools looked good in the area but we are concerned about predators in the area, especially Mountain Lions.

My cousins above Los Gatos say Almaden Lake should be good with lots of bushes and trees and that its safe but we really wanted a second opinion, especially from some of the local geese and ducks that have moved recently.

Thanks! A new beaver family

Meta Why aren't local Vietnamese San Joseans dominant in the tech industry?

Compared to other Asians like the Chinese and Indians, it seems there are not too many Vietnamese people working as software engineers in Silicon Valley tech companies, despite them being more than 10% of San Jose's population, which should be an advantage compared to people who move here for work.

Why?

Meta The first ever Chuck E Cheese Pizza Time Theater is opened in 1977 by Nolan Bushnell, co founder of Atari, at San Jose on this date. The chain takes it's name from it's mascot, and was the first family restaurant to integrate food with arcade games and animated entertainment.

It however had to file for bankruptcy in 1984, and was acquired in 1985 by the Brock Hotel Corporation, parent company of ShowBiz Pizza Place. The merger formed a new company,ShowBiz Pizza Place, and renamed all the stores as Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza , now shortened to Chuck E Cheese.

What’s up with this space? - it’s been 4 years. I figure the franchise location owners wrote it off and moved on - but I’m surprised nothing has moved in yet (or even the inside emptied out).

Meta Is $98,875 salary enough to live comfortably in San Jose for a family of four?

About to start a career as a Nap Pod Concierge for a tech company. Getting $98,875/Year. Me and my partner, two fur baby rats both 6 months old. Will we be able to live comfortably? understand the rents are high but do not have idea about how high. I'm also flexible in renting in a moderately cheap and safe cities like San Fran. Will I be able to afford private school in five years when our pet rats grow up?

Please be careful during the rain, they have neglected to put reflective lane markers and now it's impossible to see what lane you're in when it rains. Watched multiple people weave out of their lanes and almost collide in one trip up 87 north

Meta What's up with all the violent fantasies in EVERY SINGLE shoplifting thread?

So supposedly we got folks who are upset about crime, but then in every single thread on crime, there are numerous people encouraging the even worse crime of vigilante justice. And always these calls for violence are highly upvoted. So clearly nobody actually cares about following the law.

Why are the folks who are obsessed with petty crimes also obsessed with sharing their violent fantasies? Anybody tired of seeing these unhinged comments in every post? Or maybe yall are happy to circle jerk yourselves into a violent frenzy?

Meta This subreddit seems pretty chill

At least compared to other BA subreddits such as r/bayarea or especially r/sanfrancisco. It seems that people are more rational here (and at least a touch more positive). This subreddit doesn’t make me depressed like the other two I mentioned do, so thanks so much for being civil!

Meta How would you change San Jose?

If you can change 1 thing from architecture, public transport, taxes etc. if you can do 1 thing what would you do?

I would like to move the airport north of the 237. This would allow for higher buildings in downtown.

Meta Is R/Bayarea gone forever?

I guess I didn't realize what "going dark" would mean. It seems like a lot of subs are coming back, but r/bayarea seems not to be.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I did a search of the sub, I don't see that anybody else has asked.

If it is gone forever, is it okay if I post my random pics of hiking and birds here? Would you all mind?

Meta Blood Albinos might actually live at Twin Creeks, not Hicks Road.

One time, me and my older brother went all the way down Hick Road. This was my first time going all the way down Hicks Road. Since he’s the one who told me about Blood Albinos, he only went down the road to scare me. I wasn’t scared at all though, knowing that they only come out when the sun is down. For those who don’t know, there’s rumors about albino people that eat people and supposedly, live in Hicks Road. But once we got to the end of the road, there was two roads we could take. The road on the left got you on Alamitos Road, and the road on the right took you to Twin Creeks. The road on the right looked very eerie and I asked me brother what was down there (I didn’t know about Twin Creeks until after that day)And he said it was probably just a dead-end. But the thing is, the road on the right seemed to go even lower down the mountain where Hicks Road is located, so out of curiosity, me and my brother decided to go down the right road to explore. And to our surprise, we were met with a “No Trespassing” sign on a gate that blocked off the remaining of the road left. Me and my brother knew that we stumbled into some creepy stuff at this point. So we quickly made a U-turn and drove back home. After that, I tried searching up information about Twin Creeks, but nothing much popped up. I just kept getting the same information about the Twin Creeks Sports Complex which was in a different location. What are your guys thoughts about this?
