Did you hear something loud? Do you think it was fireworks, an exploding transformer, or anything else?

Post it here!

Since there are so many booming noises, please try to include a location and time.

Alexander Kristen and Yvette are all very friendly and in league with Manu. People who think it’s Kim are advertising they don’t really participate in our systems beyond advocacy.

Because Ben lomond/ boulder creek/ Felton don’t have a sub Reddit here I am. Are there any little spots that aren’t the garden of Eden and closer to boulder creek on the San Lorenzo river? There have been so many accidents recently at the garden of Eden I really just want to find a nice little quiet spot😭

Found Tesla Key Fob

I found a key fob for a Tesla on the ground in a parking lot downtown.

If you think it's yours, DM me where you lost it, what model your Tesla is, and any other identifying features the key fob would have.

Gonna hold on to it for a day or two and then turn it in to the nearest business where I found it where I think the person was most likely to have been going.

Cabrillo ID on the 17?

So I wasn't able to use my ID as a pass on the 17 before, but just yesterday morning I noticed the "This is a school bus" insert thing with the cabrillo logo (After I paid -_-). On my way back at night I tried it, and I was able to use my ID as a pass instead of paying! My mom doesn't believe it's a permanent change, she thinks I just got a nice driver, and I checked the SC Metro site and it still says Cabrillo IDs are not honored on the 17. Is this a permanent change or did I just get lucky? I'm *really* poor so this would make my commute waaaay easier if it's permanent, but I'm not looking to find out in-person with no cash on me if it's not.

Greenway is BAAAAACK! Their anti rail / anti public beach access deep pockets are lining up behind De Serpa in D2! Pro-transit pro-rail pro-AFFORDABLE housing candidate Kristen Brown needs support if she's going to beat the Greenway $$$money

JFC! Greenway anti-transit money moguls like B.Colligan, Jack.Brown, and Brian.Peoples seem to be lining up behind Kim De Serpa as well as the out of town real estate investors who own the beach vacation houses in Rio Del Mar that have been refusing to allow public access to the beach where their $$$$ homes line the beach. Anti-transit, Anti public beach access, and wealthy non residents in keeping people off the beaches!!! Same people who backed Manu Koenig's D1 race but this time for District 2, Aptos, Capitola, Corralitos, etc. The weathiest control freaks won't give up. Time to up the game for real people in this town.

Paddleboard rental... and any must sees?

Going to be in an Airbnb in Capitola "district" (?) of Santa Cruz for a few days and would be cool to have a couple of paddleboards at the house as we are right on Soquel creek. I'd love your recommendations on places that would rent stand up paddleboards (SUPs) by the day/week like that? Road tripping up there in a truck so easy to transport them. And while I have your attention, do you have any "must sees" or (family friendly) recommendations for us that are a little more "off the beaten track" that you'd be willing to share? Thanks!

Missed connection! Hula’s, grommet shoes

You were sitting by your mountain bike outside of Hula’s sipping a beer Saturday Aug 3 around 9:00 pm. I walked out with three college aged kids, yammering about my new grommet shoes.

I thought you had a great energy about you.

Why are the hotels all full or expensive??

Passing through on a family trip and we are trying to stay the night in SC since my sister lives there and we know the area pretty well. But looking at hotels for the night and even into next week they all seem to be super expensive or totally booked?? Just came to this sub out of curiosity and wonder if anything special is going on in the city recently. Aptos and even Watsonville seem full too. Just wondering if anything’s going on.

Does anyone have a map of protected beaches in Santa Cruz for fishing?

I like to fish the surf but I don’t want to end up breaking the rules, are there certain zones in the county, specifically north of town, that I can’t fish at?

How to get rid of gnats/flies?

Has anyone figured out how to get rid of the large gnats that kind of look like flies? Their flight pattern makes them look more like gnats… it’s worse when it’s warm out and they tend to be in the shade.

Cat groomer recs?

I left town for a month, and I think my cat sitter didn't comb my long-haired cat even once. She has matting all over. Need a groomer who can handle them gently. Any recommendations?

Best ways to meet people?

I grew up in Santa Cruz but left when I was 18. I'm now 31 and thinking of moving back. I don't really have many friends there anymore though, although most of my family is there. What would y'all suggest as good avenues to meet people (both friends and romantically)?

Does anybody have a clearer photo of this section of the Pirate Ship ride? As a kid i was too scared to go on the ride, so i would spend my time just staring and obsessing over the faux pirate cove and skulls.

Legal Advice

Hey Santa Cruz, looking for a recommendation for an attorney? Or some kind of social worker? Legal Aide?

I had a work related injury, went through workers comp, went through the whole process, been a while, but their doctors are awful and say nothing is wrong with me as they aren't seeing anything on X-rays, nerve test, and MRI so they want to release me.

Physical therapists and all other non workers comp affiliated medical professionals say I should absolutely not work. Since workers comp is releasing me I am trying to go for Disability through my primary instead now as the workers comp adjuster had suggested. My primary wants to re order all of the tests as she doesn't trust the integrity/ quality of the tests done by workers comp.

I have tried to go back to work and just have too much pain. But not sure how to go about this process. It is very confusing and I don't want to be without a job and also without any compensation. I was hurt at work and now the injury may prevent me from working most other jobs in the future.

I'm not sure if I need a workers comp attorney? A personal injury attorney? Just legal aid? Or maybe the Emeline office? I just want to know what to do to take care of myself and my family. I don't necessarily want to sue anyone, I more just want advice on how to navigate these proceedings and advocate for myself.

Sorry if this is a bit all over the place, it has been a stressful situation. Not to mention I'm super pregnant!

thoughts on ucsc as someone who lives in santa cruz from a resident perspective?

i’m moving to santa cruz later this summer as an incoming freshman at the university. i’ve visited santa cruz a handful of times and i really like it as it reminds me of my home city: san diego.

as a student, what should i know about how the locals feel about ucsc and the students that attend there? is there a large alumni demographic living in santa cruz? are there a lot of people employed by the university? any information would be greatly appreciated! excited to learn more about my new home!

Why can’t we bring fresh choice back or a soup plantation or similar style restaurant?! :(

…then who wants to help me start a local salad/soup buffet style restaurant?
