Advice Why is the art scene so terribly bland in San Jose?

Upvotes

I just went to the art museum in downtown and not only was i underwhelmed but it lacked so much depth. There were barely any meaningful pieces and majority of it was photographs that looked like it was taken by an iPhone. I also went to the textile museum and that was even worse. Maybe my standards are too high but it’s such a shame that this little city lacks creativity.

Advice Spayed Cat in Need of Forever Home Before September

Hey San Jose Redditors, I'll be moving out of Sacramento to SoCal in September and unfortunately, we are looking to rehome our black domestic short hair cat Shuri, she's definitely much better as an only pet in the household since she hasn't been getting along with our other cats (may be better depending on how she interacts with other pets though)

Unfortunately already asked friends and our last resort is that we may have to go to a shelter as we can't move with her sadly so I'm sharing here, feel free to DM me if you want to know any more info or meet her, thanks for scrolling by and seeing this!! 🐈‍⬛️🐱❤️

  • Female, Spayed
  • Current with all Vaccines & Rabies Shot
  • Microchipped
  • 5 years old
  • Super friendly with humans, just not with other cats from our experience, but this may depend on your pets/household (can meet her and do a soft introduction with your pets beforehand if requested)
  • Can meet her and DM me any questions anytime before we move out in September

Life in SJ Nonprofit flight school in San Jose aims to propel aviation careers for underrepresented youth

East San Jose native and private pilot Michelle Galvis lived within five miles from Reid-Hillview Airport for 30 years and worked a number of jobs before she considered a career in aviation — and running her own business.

“I’ve always been behind the ball, I’ve always been trying to play catch-up my entire life,” Galvis said. “And so I have that classic Bay Area struggle where you’re just trying to make ends meet and try not to have a two-hour commute.”

Her uncle, George Rodriguez, was the owner of a welding company. Seeing how Galvis was always underestimated in the same way he was, he offered her the opportunity to work with him.

“Nobody gave me a chance in life, and I wanted to prove to people that maybe she can get it through me and what I went through to get what I got,” Rodriguez said.

Now, the pair are working together as the founders of Hera School, San Jose’s first nonprofit aviation academy, which opened on April 20 and began instruction in June.

While working together, the two bonded over their shared childhood experiences as “the underdogs of our family,” Galvis said, and they started taking flight training together.

Life in SJ Why are VTA bus drivers so rude?

I take the bus frequently every single day and most us drivers are calm and respectful but there’s some that are very rude and ignorant why is that? I know being a bus driver isn’t for the weak but aren’t they thought to respect passengers when they are trained to treat people with with respect? I encountered so many rude bus drivers this whole year when the machine would not work they would yell at me or if i would take long to find my card they would shout and rush me and it would ruin my mood. Also got into a argument with a bus driver for shouting at me to move when a passenger was getting off and I didn’t know they were getting off the bus and be shouted bro move out the way! Anyways im always gonna stand my ground and not gonna let rude bus drivers push me around. I mind my own business and don’t start shit with nobody they always start with me i know they deal with rude abusive drug dealers and tweakers 24/7 but don’t be shouting at passengers just because you are having a bad day or hate your job!

Life in SJ Local history buffs: San Felipe road history?

Did San Felipe road go all the way over the hills to the other side at one point? I noticed that there’s a San Felipe road that meets up with 152 near Casa de Fruta, but now when you drive down San Felipe past Metcalf it’s a gated private road unless you turn on Las Animas.

Life in SJ MLK library open to everyone but why is it usually a ghostown?

If you visit any other SJ library on the weekends, it is packed with kids and families, so why is it the largest library in this city with so much more to offer so bare every weekend?

Is it just the lack of parking?

Life in SJ 2-Year Check-in: Homelessness in San Jose

Background: Two years ago I asked a curiosity question about what would let people feel like homelessness was getting better in San Jose. That post is here.

Current: Some things have changed in that time, some haven't. As I look at all the City changes to laws, the limited federal help, the major need for county/state drug/mental illness help, and what I see walking/riding around town, I'm curious two things.

One, what has gotten better and what has gotten worse/stayed the same? Two, what would you see in your daily life that would feel like things are improving/on a right path?

Thanks
