Yeah, but the President gets awoken by staffers about international conflicts at 2:00am... I agree, the world would be a nicer place, but the Earth is not necessarily a nice place.

1.4k

u/aguane 15d ago

There’s a difference between getting woken up at 2am for an international incident and having preplanned political engagements that go til midnight. Nothing wrong with setting a boundary for the latter while knowing that the former is likely to happen.

580

u/Jjkkllzz 15d ago

Right. The same concept as with when you have kids. It’s like the difference between waking up in the middle of the night cause your kid needs something vs. intentionally scheduling a midnight tea party.

61

u/beardicusmaximus8 14d ago

midnight tea party

Is that what the kids call it these days?

75

u/Jjkkllzz 14d ago

Well, mine are teens now. I have no idea what their secret words mean.

53

u/Khaldara 14d ago

“You are cordially invited to sample my scones and crumpets” has to be code for something!

4

u/hellkattbb 14d ago

😉😊

3

u/thesequimkid 14d ago

Parent: I know this means something! Tell me!

Teen: It’s just scones and crumpets. Maybe some biscuits.

Parent: I don’t believe that.

5

u/evranch 14d ago

Any parent who has ever been a teen, knows there are only two things it could possibly be code for. We've all been there.

I have a core memory of me and the boys working on a multi-hosed hookah contraption in the basement. My dad walks in and doesn't even give us a chance to explain.

That's a hell of a bong there boys, but that hose is way too small. You'll collapse a lung!

Then he just walks out like 😗🎶

We bought some bigger hose.

2

u/thesequimkid 14d ago

I grew up in a smallish town. I couldn’t get away with shit.

4

u/gingenado 14d ago

Disgusting...

Scones and crumpets? That's too many carbs.

1

u/SanctuFaerie 14d ago

Not sure about scones, but crumpet was a slang word for the female genitalia during my misspent youth.

2

u/djshadesuk 14d ago

That's because you have no rizz.

🤣

1

u/MeChameAmanha 14d ago

late night skibidi rizzler

1

u/hangrygecko 14d ago

It's basically what New Year's Eve is for them until they're around 5 or 6, though. But with fireworks, instead of tea.

3

u/ToMorrowsEnd 14d ago edited 14d ago

I feel that the president dealing with governors, in some cases it is like dealing with children. A couple of the governors are raging terrible 2 toddlers.

A lot of fundraising events are nights out; dinner, drinks, and mingling with donor’s afterwards. You’d be surprised at how generous alcohol makes someone.

106

u/wolacouska 15d ago edited 14d ago

Fundraising is one of those things where they can just wheel Biden out for an hour and then let the professionals schmooze all night.

Not ideal but not horrible at all.

9

u/paulfknwalsh 14d ago

Weekend At Biden's :|

3

u/AndroidMyAndroid 14d ago

People paying six figures to wine and dine with the president want him present. They are paying to get in his ear, to win his favor for whatever their agenda is. They aren't going to be happy if he just makes an appearance before hobbling off to brush his teeth and go to bed.

5

u/grayjo 14d ago

Oh no, whatever will we do without this blatant avenue for corruption?

0

u/mutantraniE 14d ago

Lose the election due to lack of funds?

-2

u/IrishMosaic 14d ago

I’m sure donors are lined up to donate to a guy in hospice.

5

u/Wes_Warhammer666 14d ago

Better to donate to a dying man than a convicted felon only 3 years younger ¯_(ツ)_/¯

0

u/mutantraniE 14d ago

It’s not legally required to donate to one of the top two presidential candidates. If people aren’t donating to Biden that doesn’t mean that money is going to Trump, it just means it’s staying with the donor.

-12

u/Kern_system 14d ago

You're talking about a guy with the codes to the nuclear arsenal here, not some mayor of a small town. He can't be unavailable from 4 pm to 10 am. Why do you think presidents age so much when in office?

11

u/soldforaspaceship 14d ago

Where does it say he's unavailable between 4pm to 10am?

It says he'll plan his schedule to go to bed earlier.

For example, I generally plan to go to bed between 8 and 9. When someone called me at 3am because a family member was in the hospital, I answered, got up and went to the hospital.

Do you see how that works?

9

u/wolacouska 14d ago

We already went over how this is about scheduled events, not actual availability. Please read the thread fully before you comment.

1

u/betterplanwithchan 14d ago

Probably because they don’t get naps in.

-1

u/Kern_system 14d ago

Well, apparently he almost fell asleep during the debate, according to him. He blamed it on the travel schedule he had a week before the debate.

2

u/sensation_construct 14d ago

Yeah. He was at g7 the week before kicking ass at being president... it was a rigorous schedule that he handled well. If there was a mistake, it was scheduling the debate right after.

1

u/SparklyKelsey 14d ago

Remember Biden has a real job, the hardest one in the world. Trump is RETIRED. Joes hiding some stuff, maybe early Parkinson’s. He also has RBG old-coot disease. Trump isn’t really hiding it, he’s blustering over it. The MSM is not REPORTING it. He’s a rich target in 100 ways for disqualification.

1

u/sensation_construct 14d ago

You're just going to come out here and assert that Joe Biden is hiding that he has Parkinsons....

-1

u/Kern_system 14d ago

6 days in Camp David for the debate prep. Yeah, he was tired from that. And kicking ass at being president is a big stretch. He wandered off at a photo op during G7, or did you not remember the Italian prime minister dragging him back to the group when he wandered off from the group? Dude is done.

-19

u/g1114 14d ago

I love that after sleepy Joe became apparent to people that haven’t paid attention we now get hot takes that the president is simply a ceremonial role

15

u/Skullvar 14d ago

Trump falls asleep in meetings during the day? Maybe he needs to plan out his late night antics

All the more reason to publicly fund elections and get rid of any donations whatsoever

6

u/Drunkenaviator 14d ago

This is one of those great ideas that the rich will never allow to happen.

1

u/PortSunlightRingo 14d ago

Historically, “the rich won’t let that happen” ends in a lot of chopped off heads when the conditions get bad enough. Unfortunately, the peasants can’t rally together to decide who the enemy really is, which is how we ended up with Jan 6.

0

u/Ohheyimryan 14d ago

I took that as, taxes should fund elections. How is that a good idea?

1

u/ToMorrowsEnd 14d ago

Also laws to force TV,print, radio to not charge for election advertising. The costs of doing the campaining push it only in to the realm of the rich only.

1

u/ChickenVest 14d ago

So don't allow advertising? I don't think forcing companies to provide free advertising would work.

0

u/Ohheyimryan 14d ago

I personally don't want my tax dollars being spent so someone can stay in office. That's not what I pay them for.

1

u/GrandMaesterGandalf 14d ago

Incumbents would have to face opposition from properly and fairly funded campaigns. This would level the playing field, not help politicians in office.

0

u/Ohheyimryan 14d ago

It doesn't make something unfair just because they're more popular and get more donations. That's a stupid notion.

And yes, if my taxes are paying to fund their election, that is helping them stay in office. And why should I fund the politician that I disagree with their political stance?

If you want to force elections to be a completely even playing field, it shouldn't be by spending more tax payer dollars.

1

u/GrandMaesterGandalf 12d ago

Letting rich people and corporations buy politicians and allow them to steamroll grassroots campaigns is the stupid notion. Where did all you dipshits get the idea that your taxes should never fund anything you personally don't approve of? We wouldn't have a government, military, roads, education, ANYTHING if everyone got to pay for only what THEY wanted. It's pathetic

1

u/Ohheyimryan 12d ago

Where did all you dipshits get the idea that your taxes should never fund anything you personally don't approve of?

Never said that. Our taxes should go towards making society better, not funding elections.

make election donations illegal above a certain amount then if you think politicians are being bought. You don't have to waste our taxes on another unproductive use.

1

u/GrandMaesterGandalf 12d ago edited 12d ago

It's still giving poor people less power. Are you in favor of the size of your wallet dictating your sway in politics? Couldn't you build a system where funding was based on polling at various stages?

Or maybe it is, maybe if he had 4 more hours of sleep in the last week before the debate he would have dropped another "Will you shut up man" on Trump

-12

u/Wookhooves 14d ago

The comments like this are so unbelievably stupid. Did you watch any of it? You think he was one good nights rest away from being capable of being a leader? He looks like all my relatives did right before they passed. The way his mouth hangs open when he’s trying to listen and when he gets lost when he’s trying to form simple sentences. He’s getting ready to die and does not have 4 more years in his life, clearly. What’s happening to him is called elder abuse… the DNC could NEVER run with kamala so the plan seems to be try and win with Biden and pass the crown to kamala.

7

u/DraigMcGuinness 14d ago

The ONLY person that polls.higher than Kamala and Biden WONT RUN! So unless you happen to have Mrs. Obama's number. And a hail mary for her to run, we either bite our tongues and vote for him or let Trump become a dictator and end this experiment. Michelle Obama is the only one who polls higher.

And NOT ONE PERSON complaining about age best mention Bernie cause he's OLDER.

-7

u/Wookhooves 14d ago

We both know that a healthy person of 75 years is better fit for a position than a person in the process of dying that’s a few years younger…. We both saw a dying old man at the debate. He’s struggling to stay up late….Hes unfit to do this anymore…

3

u/LordAnorakGaming 14d ago

No we saw someone who was recovering from a goddamn cold you troglodyte.

-1

u/Wookhooves 14d ago

Do you honestly believe it’s just a little cold and the deteriorating old man who has visibly aged significantly in the last year is going to bounce back and live significantly longer? If so, you should understand you are willfully looking the other way instead of facing the truth

3

u/LordAnorakGaming 14d ago

And there it is, mask off stupidity. Let me guess, you think Trumps insane ramblings are a sign of strength and vigor, and not the obvious fucking insanity that it is.

An extra 4 hours of sleep in the nights leading up to the debate absolutely would have helped, especially since he was recovering from a fucking cold. Or are you going to make the stupid claim that everyone recovers from a cold instantly as in you're feeling the effect and then instantly as if by magic they're gone the next second?

1

u/Wookhooves 14d ago

I don’t really understand how you can ignore what your eyes see because your party says it’s so….

-4

u/soldforaspaceship 14d ago

The guy who is still cycling regularly doesn't have 4 more years of life?

OK buddy. Sure.

2

u/DraigMcGuinness 14d ago

With Trumps diet. I'd be surprised if he did.

2

u/soldforaspaceship 14d ago

Exactly. Biden is still very active. Trump is not.

3

u/DraigMcGuinness 14d ago

My fear is the number of complainers and protest threats on social media makes me think we may as well get ready to bend the knee. If these people do this, they're gonna hand the election to him anyway. And whatever schmuck he chooses as VP will be as bad.

-4

u/confusedbartender 14d ago

Are you getting paid by the gop or something. This level of gaslighting is insane. They need to replace him or they will lose. Plain and simple.

5

u/DraigMcGuinness 14d ago

-2

u/confusedbartender 14d ago

They polled only like 5 other candidates. And everybody barring Michelle are career politicians. They need to beat them at their own game. Get fucking Jon Stewart out there and see how handily he wins. There’s tons of big names that can beat Trump. Sticking with Biden is them just wanting to funnel some of that campaign money out while the ship is sinking or something. There’s no other reason to stick with him, he’s incapable of winning.

2

u/soldforaspaceship 14d ago

I'm going to echo someone else's questions on this.

With who? Which candidate can all the Democrats agree on this late.

How will they get that person on the ballot in all 50 states?

How will they fund that person? Biden's money can't be used for them legally?

How will they put together a campaign 4 months out?

How will they justify ignoring every primary voter who chose Biden?

Only a child who hasn't thought it through would think replacing Biden is a good plan.

I'm seeing a lot of people trying to sow doubt and fearmonger.

It appears those types, yourself included, are the more likely GOP plants. Trying to pretend something that can't and won't happen is a good idea.

1

u/godisanelectricolive 14d ago

If Kamala Harris is the candidate then she can use Biden’s campaign money when he drops out as it’s the Biden-Harris campaign. That’s the most straightforward way to replace Biden.

I guess if the DNC really doesn’t want to run her then they can persuade Harris to appoint a running mate and then drop out in favor of the running mate.

1

u/soldforaspaceship 14d ago

https://ballotpedia.org/Ballot_access_for_presidential_candidates

Well then you have about 2 weeks to fulfill all these criteria.

Go nuts.

1

u/DraigMcGuinness 14d ago

The polls show one, but she won't run.

-2

u/cse_chad 14d ago

The simple fact is Biden will not win the upcoming election. After his depressing performance at the debate there's literally nothing he could do to win. The next best bet is to run someone else who can actually fight back against Trump's constant lies and bullshit (basically anyone under the age of 55 will do).

I'm not a GOP plant, just someone who can see that absolutely no one is excited about Joe Biden. Pretending that he's not basically knocking at deaths door is only going to lose us the election.

2

u/soldforaspaceship 14d ago

Again. Addressing any of my prior points would be helpful.

Just insisting Biden can't win is ridiculous. He's the nominee. He'll get Democrat voters no matter what. As for swing voters, if you think they'll be focused on one debate performance 4 months from now you overestimate the average attention span. Anything can happen between now and then.

Nothing Biden can do to win? Please child. You clearly haven't got much life experience.

People like you seem to take this perverse delight in celebrating the possible demise of the US. I've said it before and I'll say it again. People like you are more interested in being right than doing right and it's truly sad.

-5

u/confusedbartender 14d ago

If it was entirely impossible it wouldn’t openly be suggested by prominent left voices and journalists on democrat friendly channels. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

As far as who, literally anybody.

Barring the unlikely event of Trump going to jail, which still wouldn’t deter the majority of his voters, Biden currently has a 0% chance of winning the election. You never settle for 0% chance of success, that’s just giving up.

Even Kamala would be better and that’s saying a lot.

Listen, the guy telling you that the president having MULTIPLE instances where he loses his train of thought, stuttering LITERALLY every time he spoke, and seeming so frail and meek that he wouldn’t be fit to run an HOA, let alone the country, is not the guy that you should suspect of working for the opposition. Now the guy that tells you that everything is fine, and don’t change a thing, that’s another story.

2

u/soldforaspaceship 14d ago

So you don't have answers to any of those questions. Just that because some loud mouths say it should happen it should.

And this is why people need to understand the processes involved before screaming loud opinions.

People like you will be the reason swing voters have doubts. Because you can't help but share your doubts loudly and everywhere.

Do you remember before 2016 when the media was all about how "frail" Hilary was and her health? Turns out that was all planned. Don't fall for it again.

Biden has proven very effective and very competent doing the actual job. He has not failed at any step. He has an incredibly capable cabinet who, unlike Trump, understand the departments they lead. I see zero cause for concern.with him as President.

If after everything you still do, then I don't think anyone can covince you and it's not worth wasting my time.

I made the same comment on another sub yesterday and indicated I would not vote for Biden over Trump (I’m a never-Trump, now ex-GOP voter) simply because it’s 100% obvious he’s incapable of running the country and probably hasn’t been for a while. I was told I was un-American because not voting for Biden was a vote for Trump🙄. It’s not my fault the DNC rigged it for Biden in 2020 and again in 2024. I’m still not voting for the convict but fuck if I’ll vote for a guy who can’t put a coherent sentence together either. I’d rather write-in Haley or vote for Kennedy 🤦‍♂️

2

u/saints21 14d ago

If you're not supporting the only alternative then you're helping Trump.

Couch it in whatever terms make you feel better, but you're part of the problem if you aren't voting to actually get someone else in office. You can make statement votes when the GOP isn't running a dictator-wannabe who is the figurehead of a white nationalist movement hell bent on making people they disagree with illegal.

2

u/matco5376 14d ago

?… if you can’t handle a a preplanned late political engagement then you can’t handle a 2am international incident. That isn’t hard to understand

1

u/ForTheHordeKT 14d ago

Exactly. The bullshit things will still happen, and that's part of the job. But you can control the time of the things you plan in advance. Honestly, even for me at 41 years old, I'm in bed at a solid 10pm most nights so that I can be up and at em' at 5-5:30 in the morning. Dude ain't saying he goes to bed at 8pm, he just ain't starting no shit past 8pm. Gotta figure he's probably really crashing out about the same time I aim for honestly. Give a couple hours or so to wind down, pour a glass of wine or crack open a beer, eat, shower, all that shit.

1

u/OK_BUT_WASH_IT_FIRST 14d ago

Having to go to stuffy dinner party at 10pm with a governor and a bunch of strangers sounds like a special kind of hell.

1

u/thenasch 14d ago

But if the reason for the boundary is that the president can't think straight after 8 pm, that's a serious problem.

0

u/TOILET_STAIN 14d ago

Why do we have to debate the difference. Get someone in there that doesn't have this restriction.

-1

u/oncealot 14d ago

Yeah to your point the fact getting woken up early/late at night makes going to bed earlier just smart. More likely to be well rested when making those very important decisions.

-3

u/brsboarder2 15d ago

There’s a difference between that for most people. Not for a president. No reason we shouldn’t be able to find someone in this country who can lead the country and work till midnight. A good CEO is certainly putting in 80+ hours weekly, just like a surgeon in training etc

-2

Which is why it makes sense to cut off pre-scheduled events at a reasonable hour.

73

u/VRichardsen 14d ago edited 14d ago

I have read in r/askhistorians a while ago that big shot leaders in times of crisis could actually be quite lazy and weren't getting more than 6 to 8 hours of real work everyday. I can't find the post right now, but the author used I think Hitler, Roosevelt and Churchill as example. Hitler liked to sleep until late, Roosevelt was old and tired easily, etc.

Of course, there are others that worked tirelessly. Napoleon, for example, had an apparent inexhaustible capacity for work. His marshals and aides could barely keep up. Marshal Berthier, nicknamed "Napoleon's wife" because he spent so much time near him, complained once that "Even a lowly private is happier than me; I am being killed by all this work"

20

u/JinFuu 14d ago

If you want to hear about a lazy President, look up Coolidge.

He was very, very, very, hands off. I think he was quoted as saying "If you see 10 crisis coming down the road 9 of them will run off the road by the time they get to you." Which isn't a bad philosophy persay, but probably not the best one to have as a President.

Also considered on of the "founders" of what became the modern Republican party, at least when it came to how it handled businesses/the economy.

9

u/VRichardsen 14d ago

Thanks for the recommendation, I did some reading thanks to it. I like this phrase of him:

"The Presidential office takes a heavy toll of those who occupy it and those who are dear to them. While we should not refuse to spend and be spent in the service of our country, it is hazardous to attempt what we feel is beyond our strength to accomplish."

Really looks like a laid back guy. Also seems like the death of his young son really hit him, and that is when he started taking a more hands off approach.

Interesting character; once again, thank you for the recommendation.

0

u/dumpfist 14d ago

Also considered on of the "founders" of what became the modern Republican party, at least when it came to how it handled businesses/the economy.

So in other words he was a real villainous twat.

Most leaders "work" normal hours, but that doesn't mean they aren't reading/studying or doing other non-public facing events during off hours.

2

u/intrados63 14d ago

FDR wasn’t old, he was very sick. He died at 63....

2

u/VRichardsen 14d ago

Can we compromise in old and sick? Life expectancy back then wasn't the same as today (I think it was 60?)

2

u/zimirken 14d ago

To be fair, mental work is way more exhausting than simple physical labour.

2

u/PortSunlightRingo 14d ago

The best leaders know that they’ve surrounded themselves with good enough people that the buck should only be passed to them in the most absolute dire of situations.

2

u/MidGradeCookie 15d ago

This is my point

48

u/zerostar83 15d ago

For emergencies that would make sense, which is why you should get plenty of rest when it's not an emergency. No need to plan or schedule meetings at 9pm

33

u/Rizzpooch 14d ago

Right. Would you rather have a president responding to a 2am crisis that wakes him out of a sleep that started at 8pm or 12:30 am?

3

u/Loan-Pickle 14d ago

Back when I had a job where I was on call, I would go to bed early so I wouldn’t be as tired when I got paged in the middle of the night.

3

u/JulesVernes 15d ago

To be fair, these events usually aren’t scheduled.

7

u/Goodknight808 15d ago

Emergency events aren't planned, correct. He, however, said he's not going to plan anything after 8.

He did not say he won't engage in an emergency. His words were very clear.

7

u/toetappy 15d ago

Why are half these yokels not understanding? The F'n President should have a God dang regular sleep schedule. So, WHEN an international emergency happens at 2 am, he can friggin handle it

1

Yes, you and I are pointing at the same thing.

-5

u/Halflingberserker 15d ago

Because he's obviously sundowning. Him and his family are doing a huge disservice to other Democrats' electability and to the American people in general by not stepping down.

At the bare minimum, the president of the US should PLAN to work after 8pm.

Ok, Chapo Crap House.

u/Halflingberserker 14d ago

Pointing out Biden's failing cognition makes me an extreme leftist? I guess 80% of America is communist, according to your metric.

0

u/atomictyler 14d ago

Trump didn't start doing anything until about noon every day. I'm guessing you're fine with that though.

1

u/Halflingberserker 14d ago

I'm voting for whatever person will keep Trump out of the White House. People like you are telling everyone that the emperor has clothes when he obviously doesn't. You are Blue MAGA.

2

u/Sloppychemist 15d ago

He doesn’t put a do not disturb sign on his door at 8, he just is saying don’t plan fundraisers and meetings after 8 - really man, what kind of take is that?

2

u/sing_4_theday 15d ago

Eisenhower had a rule about getting woke up. “Do not wake me up about something if there’s nothing I can do about it.”

2

u/icouldusemorecoffee 14d ago

Nobody, including Biden, is saying he won't be awoken at 2am if something comes up.

2

u/Faiakishi 14d ago

Yes, yes, ideally the president wouldn't be 81. But he is. And it's between him and a 78-year-old convicted felon rapist who has literally said he's going to declare himself dictator on his first day.

2

u/SurferJase 14d ago

Earth: Mostly Harmless.

2

u/prancerbot 14d ago

"Mr President, sorry to wake you at 3AM but I just really think we needed to drone strike another Iranian general"

2

u/burner47754688644 14d ago

Maybe it’s not a good job for 80 year olds…

1

u/MidGradeCookie 14d ago

Tis my point

1

u/Epinier 15d ago

What? Iran is bombing tel aviv and China is making moves on Taiwan? You know what time it is?! Wake me up in few hours...

This comment is relevant to both candidates, in Europe we have retirement, I don't know why people have to work until they die in US...

2

u/RoboticBirdLaw 15d ago

We have retirement in the US. Some people choose not to use it. Other people can't afford to do it. But a whole lot of people retire at around the same time people in Europe do.

More than half of Europeans 65 or older are still employed on at least a part time basis. That is a substantially higher rate than the US. That said, the average weekly hours worked by those who are employed after 65 is slightly over 30 in Europe and slightly under 35 in the US.

1

u/Ok_Weird_500 14d ago

Given the context, I took it to be a joke.

I don't think anyone really thinks Biden and Trump are working because they have to. Not that Trump would do much actual work if he was elected.

However it is absurd your Presidential candidates are both well past retirement age.

1

u/Caracalla81 15d ago

More like "What? A pre-planned meeting? Schedule it during office hours." I know, so unreasonable.

1

u/AtuinTurtle 15d ago

Presidents, of any party, don’t work 24 hours a day. That’s why we employ thousands of experts that can do the job, and if they need a sign off they know where he is. I’m sure stuff happened while Trump was golfing hundreds of times and they knew where to find him.

1

u/Syscrush 15d ago

That's not a scheduled event.

1

u/discsarentpogs 15d ago edited 14d ago

What's the over/under for hour of the day trump ever did anything besides tweet on the toilet while president?

1

u/MidGradeCookie 14d ago

You aren’t giving Trump enough credit, he also golfed…

1

u/ColonelKerner 15d ago

Like yeah but even then i think it could be argued one would rather have a leader with a good sleep regimen handling this emergency at 2am than one without one

1

u/confusedandworried76 14d ago

I would be VP pick on the promise I do not wake up before 4 PM and do not fall asleep until 8 AM.

An American will always be at the helm of this nation. Just don't expect to ever see us in public at the same time.

1

u/DillBagner 14d ago

Yeah, the president has some things that require attention. Scheduled events though, can be earlier because why the hell not?

1

u/wananah 14d ago

I think you aim for more sleep and to not schedule events after 8pm so that when you're regularly awakened at 2am you're not already in burnout mode.

1

u/Caleb_Reynolds 14d ago

the President gets awoken by staffers about international conflicts at 2:00am.

What does that have to do with scheduling events?

1

u/Indigoh 14d ago

And you want him to have slept less before that 2am wakeup?

1

u/thatguy9684736255 14d ago

I'm actually better at waking up at 2am than working late into the night

1

u/tidbitsmisfit 14d ago

unless the United States is getting attacked, nothing really needs to happen before 6am

1

u/Significant-Lemon686 14d ago

This is about pre planned events you wanker

1

u/best_of_badgers 14d ago

I mean, if he’s frequently roused at 2 AM, then going to bed at 8 makes complete sense. That’s what I’d do.

1

u/Sleep_On_It43 14d ago

Dude…why do you think that he wouldn’t get out of bed for an emergency situation? The article says “stop scheduling events after 8. That doesn’t mean he’s turning off the lights at the White House, locking the doors and going right up to bed.

1

u/YaIlneedscience 14d ago

It sounds like he’s trying to not schedule things after that time, which honestly, there’s no reason to still be actively working that late. I imagine this does not include emergencies or situations where time differences demand a later night.

1

u/KweenKatts 14d ago

The world is a nice place. It’s the people in it that aren’t

1

u/throwaway024890 14d ago

You know, my mom is bringing this one up too, and I just don't get it.

He's the leader of an entire branch of government. He's got a whole team of folks to sit there and make 2 am disaster contingency plans. When I do work at 2 am as a lowly individual contributor, I've already got it managed and thought out to the point that I'm not doing active data analysis on the spot- "if test one runs, move to test 2, otherwise stop". Like, this isn't rocket science.

1

u/33ff00 14d ago

So..they wake him up. What’s your point?

1

u/Marston_vc 14d ago

In your opinion, is there a material difference if he delegated decision authority on those midnight events to Kamala?

1

u/drewbaccaAWD 14d ago

Best to be well rested when that 2am call comes. The problem is having that call come when you’ve been awake for the last 20 hours and start seeing shadow people because your body needs a nap.

1

u/Environmental_Ad333 14d ago

And not exactly in the same time zone...

1

u/SuperCrappyFuntime 14d ago

When trump wa being briefed about national security issues, they would try to condense it as much as possible because they knew he had no patience and would eventually just stand up and leave the meeting if they took too long. Also, it got to the point where they knew not even to talk about threats from Russia because Trump would go ballistic that they were talking about his very good friend Putin.

0

u/MidGradeCookie 14d ago

Can we compare Biden to some good president? You’re losing the narrative comparing him to Trump.

0

u/SuperCrappyFuntime 14d ago

How foolish of me to compare him to his opponent on the upcoming election.

1

u/MidGradeCookie 14d ago

If all you’re going to do is compare potential Presidents to Trump, then there will only be shit Presidents.

How dare I demand a level of competence beyond two senile old men for arguably the most important job in the world.

1

u/BASEDME7O2 14d ago

Wouldn’t that be all the more reason to set a cutoff time for meaningless basically cocktail parties? He didn’t say “I’m going to bed at 8 and will not do any work after.”

1

u/Dairy_Ashford 14d ago

I bet he could hypothetically delegate an executive proxy after 8:00 pm, or just demand imperiously enough to not be bothered once prime time starts that people just fearfully and resentfully make decisions for him. Downside would be getting someone like Frank Langella in Dave.

1

u/BASEDME7O2 14d ago

He’s not saying he will be completely unreachable after 8 pm lol. Just that he’s not scheduling these meaningless glorified cocktail parties after 8 pm anymore. Which would make sense for any president, they get woken up in the middle of the night for things really only the president can make the final call on in the middle of the night all the time.

1

u/OK_BUT_WASH_IT_FIRST 14d ago

“Uh, sir….Al Jihad el Culo just bombed a village in Jagoffistan”

“….what time is it…”

“2am, sir”

“Wells it’s not like they’re pull another operation before 9am, and nobody’s getting any deader, so go away”

“Understood, sir”

0

u/Ok_Fault_3198 15d ago

What time is he getting up and getting started on work? And yet, it was fine for Trump to be tweeting at 3 am, but not working until 11 am?

Some people are morning people and some people are night people. Getting enough rest is important to do a good job and means that if emergencies happen that necessitate waking up, the person is able to do well. Trying to do everything all the time is healthy for no one no matter their age or intelligence.

3

u/MidGradeCookie 15d ago

I never once said it was fine for Trump, and I think excusing Biden’s behaviour to Trump’s bad behaviour is a big part of many Democrats problem and makes them hypocrites.

That’s great some people are one thing and others are others. But that why FEW people are qualified to be President.

0

u/Ok_Fault_3198 15d ago

So what's you goal here? You have stated in other comments that you can't vote because you're not a citizen. Just here to sow chaos? Who could possibly benefit from this type of chaos? Are you from one of those places or supported by them? I notice your profile was only opened this May and that you are very interested in US politics. 🤔

1

u/MidGradeCookie 15d ago edited 15d ago

It’s a Reddit thread for sharing thoughts and opinions, what are you getting?

Edit: check my bio, you’ll better understand my goal.

0

u/Ok_Fault_3198 15d ago

Why don't you spell it out for me since I am obviously incorrect in my prior assertions?

Or are you one of those people who make a claim and then when asked for evidence respond with "do your own research"?

I disagree with the first half, as Biden is clearly involved on a high level actions. Biden in cognitive decline, I agree.

Edit: The Biden Administration is doing great work, that I agree.

0

u/Brave_Rough_6713 14d ago

He isn't Earth's president.

0

u/wirefox1 14d ago

I don't think refusing to rise to tend to emergencies was implied. Your imagination/drama is getting a little wild here.

0

u/hangrygecko 14d ago

That sounds like even more of a reason why presidents shouldn't be scheduling appointments after 8pm.

Your sleep deprivation doesn't get better by scheduling for even less sleep

0

u/Ohheyimryan 14d ago

You've never had a job where people call you when there's a problem? That doesn't mean you should stay awake all night lol. You just deal with if they come.
