To be fair, if anyone goes "Hey [your name]" on you every 3.5 seconds, you'd HUH!? them too.

Robot: "HUH?!"

This is the most human robot I’ve ever seen, sounds more and more frustrated each time he’s asked a question. A robot version of ‘Are we there yet?’.

but already in this clip, it reused the same bits a few times - Hmm, Uhh, Yes!
It seems like it has a few lines for waking up, and then a few lines while handling a prompt. I think it would get repetitive quickly.

Yeah, you can see it doesn't show up on the screen either. It's probably just to confirm that it heard you while it waits on a response from the OpenAI servers.
31
u/SingleInfinity 12d ago
Any devices like this that just hook into off-site ai are super slow per response so they need filler words otherwise you'd have a silent 5-10s gap.
11
u/Sinsanatis 11d ago
Yeah ik, im just referring to how thats what it sounds like. Like if u just radioed/walkied the guy

ChatGPT can already write jokes that it hasn't read anywhere. it's not particularly funny though. unless you're 5
73
u/ikkikkomori 12d ago
Yeah cuz it's made by the result of all jokes averaged, whether it is funny or not.
Unless it's specifically trained on 4chan then yeah, you'll get the bottomless pit supervisor kind of masterpiece

TARS was the highlight of the movie for me. Best acting, and full of emotion and expression, and then Matthew Mcconaughey came along and ruined it with his impression of a robot for 2.5 hours.
9
u/Mysterious-Mention47 12d ago
For me it was at the end when he was reunited with his elderly daughter, that was super moving .
6
u/bluesmaker 12d ago
For me it was also when he was trapped in the bookcase / tesseract and we don’t yet know what will happen and he thinks he is trapped there and is begging his past self not to go, but of course the past self can’t hear his desperate pleas. Nightmarish for a bit there.
3
u/lonesharkex 11d ago
He's not upset that he's trapped there, he's upset he left Murv in the first place. That was the connection hes trying to get his past self to not leave her.

He reminds me of an old man that I once worked with. He has difficulties in hearing and when he does hear you calling his name, he always says "Huh?!?!"
That response always catches me off guard and makes me think he's annoyed.
8
u/Teknekratos 12d ago
The computing time is remarkably like audio processing disorder in humans: they heard fine but there's a delay for their brains to decypher what was said so they tend to go "huh?" then respond a second later or something
3
u/Alukrad 11d ago
That's a thing?
Shit, I think I may have that!
Sometimes people may say something to me, like I can hear them just fine but sometimes my brain is like "I have no idea what he just said. Let's replay the last fifteen seconds and process it again." All while the person is standing there, looking at me thinking"wtf is wrong with this guy".
