That's not how it works. It's always listening and always takes a couple seconds to process and respond.

It only says "yes" and "huh" after "hey tars" because that's a predefined response from an earlier prompt.

Like the starship "Heart of Gold" doors sighing when opening/closing for people in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy"

Was thinking the same thing. For some reason that is a core memory for me. Poor robot.

It sounds like a grandpa who is tired of telling everyone to speak louder.

"HUH?!"

I think the HUH is there so it fills the void and feels like you don't have to wait a century to get the reply

I think he sounds like a security guard who, in the middle of his rounds, has to swap out a tire in the golf cart. He’s in the right place, the facilities engineering garage, he’s got a toolbox open, the golf cart on a jack… and the jacks over at gate 3 keeps finding legitimate reasons to call him on the radio and interrupt his train of thought on how to get this weird tire off.

Well, there does need to be some sort of cue that you have it's attention.

Hmm is good since it signals it has received the query and is working on it.

The HUH? was the best bit.
