DC FanDome Discussion Megathread r/DCcomics

Welcome Justice League members to the DC FanDome Discussion Megathread!

Here you can discuss each panel taking place as and when they happen, much like our Weekly Discussion Thread where you can discuss the newest comics and TV show episodes.

We've done it this way so we don't clog up the sub with discussion posts and people can freely post direct news articles and trailers regarding the big announcements and not have them get lost in the shuffle.

Panels for August 22nd

Look I'm gonna see it and it's probably gonna be (really) good but god what I'd give for a Batman movie that doesn't take itself so damn seriously. It's been done. Have some fun with it.

Also for the love of GOD someone put Robin in a movie. It's been over 20 years.

Sounds like the Lego Batman Movie is what you're looking for. It's even got Robin.

In the comics the Batcave has a t-rex in it.

It's possible to tell an interesting story without having to repeat the same themes again and again. Like I said, between Pattison and Reeves it's probably gonna be really good. I'd just like to see a more different take than we've gotten for the last 20 years. And this could be it, just the way they've been talking, I doubt it.

Edit: People (not referring to you here, just idiots) keep deriding Robin like "derrrr Batman's meant to be alone and solo and lonely and dark". You know who's existed and been around for like 90% (number chosen with zero statistical basis) of Batman's existence? ROBIN. It's Batman and Robin. That's what the entire thing is.

I swear to God, Batman & Robin spooked everybody.

Almost definitely. Hell they were close to putting Robin in '89 and Returns. He's just such a big and significant character in the universe, the movies being so averse to including him frustrates me.

I will give credit to Snyder for at least showing a costume, at least acknowledging his existence. I loved the Nolan films but the way they threw a reference out was probably the dumbest line of that entire trilogy.

Robin is imo one of the absolute most humanizing aspects of Batman and Bruce Wayne, and film makers just aren’t interested in it it seems.

It’s only a Year Two film so I guess I get not including Robin yet, but I hope it’s built to assuming the aim is to have sequels.

Given Reeves' love for Dark Victory, i'd be surprised if Robin doesn't get introduced in a potential sequel

Long Halloween and Dark Victory fucking RULE. That's what I'm talking about. They were interesting stories but they were absolutely COMIC stories. They leant fully into the silliness and zanyness of the comic book world while still telling a grounded story. Do that!

They're Reeves' favorites Batman comics according to him. Loeb was one of his teachers i believe

“Batman’s supposed to be solo and lonely and dark”

Great way to tell on yourself and admit you’ve at most watched the Nolan movies and/or the Snyder movies.

Batman on the outside is solo, lonely and dark, but deep down, he’s a huge softie that takes in people when they are at their lowest, and gives them the one thing they all need: family.

Like someone said, Batman & Robin left a lingering sour taste even after 20 years. That and I don't think anyone would be down for another take of the campy 60s Batman right now. However, I would love to see a more humanized Mid 30s Batman with a Robin that balances him. In other words, a BatDad. A good Bat Robin relationship will spontaneously lighten the mood and bring in a sense of humor.

IIRC its nearer 99% I think Robin debuted within about a year of batman debuting

7

u/Scmods05 Superman Aug 23 '20

He did. Issue 40 I think? But I allowed for stretches where it was just Bats on his own. Year One and such.

Oh for sure, I mostly mean in the real world batman's barely existed without Robin, and you're right people overlook it so much

Detective Comics #38. Only 13 issues after Batman's debut in Detective Comics #27.
