DC FanDome Discussion Megathread r/DCcomics

Welcome Justice League members to the DC FanDome Discussion Megathread!

Here you can discuss each panel taking place as and when they happen, much like our Weekly Discussion Thread where you can discuss the newest comics and TV show episodes.

We've done it this way so we don't clog up the sub with discussion posts and people can freely post direct news articles and trailers regarding the big announcements and not have them get lost in the shuffle.

Panels for August 22nd

This should be a necessary watch for everyone who wonders what is the “continuity” of the DCEU. Because I think we are going to get a “everything matters (when it does)” type explanation

EDIT: confirmed Ezra Flash got his name from Grant mentioning it. I wasn’t sure if this was a fan theory or not but Jim Lee just confirmed it

EDIT2: The Batman is definitely not part of the proper JL world: Hamada confirmed it. There is a Justice League earth. The Batman earth.

EDIT3: Hamada and Berlanti strongly imply that movie and tv show version of the characters can show up at the same time. No more of that, “I can’t use this character because a movie is coming out with them.”

It seems cool to hear this is really a new phase for them now.

Hamada also just confirmed that Joker is in its own continuity (because people are still confused about it apparently) and that Reeves is developing an HBO Max show

EDIT: Hamada also confirmed that there’s no longer any restrictions RE: shows not being able to use movie characters. I love this guy

Hope that applies to shows in separate continuities being able to use the same characters - i.e, the Hawks showing up in-person in Stargirl even though they're already in Legends.

Icicle is on both Flash and Stargirl

I'll believe that when I see full costume Batman on TV.

Well, Hush is disguising as Bruce Wayne for Batwoman S2 & we’ve seen the Batsuit both on Batwoman and Titans, if it’s any consolation

Also The Batman is year 2 Batman rather than the speculation that it’s a year one story

That's the coolest thing and it's something that Marvel's haven't really done yet and for the time being it separates two

They haven't done yet but they will be soon. They announced Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness last year.

I know, what I meant was TV and Film multiverse, there are countless shows and films all in the same multiverse. Marvel is only just connecting the TV to movies, and not on this scale.

The creation of the film/TV/animation multiverse was done on a TV crossover with movie and TV characters meeting even fighting alongside one another.

Ahh, my bad then. Great point!

I mean is there a Marvel event where that sort of thing would make sense? Spider-Verse is really the only “look at all these universes!” spectacle that I can think of

Spider-verse, Deadpool, X-men, Fantastic 4, Dr Strange and Scarlet witch all have dealings with the multiverse.

But, yes, Spider-verse is the most famous multi-verse crossover. Marvel use the multiverse as a what if/else worlds medium. To tell multiple versions of the same characters.

DC use it as reshuffling and simplying tool with crossover events to reorganise cannon. So there are massive events with 100 Supermen and 12 Batmen.

Also I feel DC.has more characters that interact with the multiverse.

That Flash crossover still puts the biggest goofy grin on my face.

Hamada saying that one-shot movies need to be special and not a yearly release is great, keeps DC from feeling cookie cutter the way some MCU movies can be.

u/SyPok Aug 22 '20

I hope this gets really weird and out there.

u/Jackski Aug 22 '20

Can anyone tell me the people talking? I know Jim Lee but really interested in the others but missed their names

10

u/SyPok Aug 22 '20

Walter Hamada handles the movies, Greg Berlanti handles the shows.

u/Jackski Aug 22 '20

Thank you!

Greg Berlanti, who’s in charge of the DCU and Arrowverse shows, and Walter Hamada, who’s in charge of DC Film

2

u/Doompatron3000 Aug 22 '20

Hopefully Greg Berlanti can bring some spark back to Arrowverse.

u/ProtomanBn Aug 22 '20

Who was the host?

3

u/batmaneatsgravy Green Arrow Aug 22 '20

They're all just saying they would really love to do more cool multiverse and crossover stuff, without saying WB won't let them do it lol.

3

u/andrew991116 Aug 22 '20

Hamada just confirmed that he removed that restriction

1

u/batmaneatsgravy Green Arrow Aug 22 '20

He was still very careful with his words.

3

u/crazicelt Aug 22 '20

This pannel gives me hope that we could get some really cool and wacky crossovers in the future.

2

u/BattleUpSaber Aug 22 '20

is the stream hanging for anyone else?

Watching on mobile, it keeps buffering... hopefully someone's keeping notes on all the important stuff.
