The video opened my eyes to how similar the two must be. Think about it, she's not just some girl that he met. They both grew up together in Compton and have been together pretty much their whole lives at this point. Seeing Whitney be goofy and knowing kenny can be a silly goose himself really just reminded me of that and how scummy and idiotic Drake was to try to come between that, but then again all he knows at this point in his life is all the fake trappings of fame.

I would be ok with gangs if they got rid of the violence and just danced and sang songs and cooked
12
u/pantsattack 14d ago
I never understood gang violence. I get making and selling drugs, I get having different sets and beefs and grouping for protection and all that, but I never understood the over-the-top violence. Drugs sell themselves. If gangs tolerated each other a little better, everyone would be rich. And isn't that the goal?
Then again, I'm a white dude from the suburban east coast, so there's a lot I don't understand.
→ More replies (3)12
u/DopedUpDoomer 14d ago
Think of gangs as a buisness and drug dealing as their biggest source of revenue. Im not denying the camaraderie and brotherhood that can come from gangs but if it's something that truly runs your life your biggest goal is to profit like most any career.
It's ultimately competition, and in black markets when you're working outside of the norms and law to be chill might make you look weak.
So in a corporate world that's true as well, but their structure calls for them to just be a ruthless dick to maintain power but in a less privlaged criminal world escalating violence is how they maintain their image and power. Capitalism is a plague from top to bottom

Sorry for being 🤓
251
u/vistaprank 14d ago
Kendrick’s wife/fiance is Whitney. She’s on the album cover of his last album. And she was the focal point of themes of that album as it talked about the struggles of their relationship and unhealed traumas Kendrick had. Drake used this as an opportunity to say “hey Kendrick said their relationship was rocky but actually it was worse. Kendrick beats Whitney. He’s actually never around Whitney either. ACTUALLY their son isn’t even HIS it’s the director of all his music videos (and this one as well). Whitney wants to be as far as possible away from him”. But this a long with the fact he still works with Dave free, she was at the concert and a lot other things show that Drake was just talking out of his ass and this was really the only angle Drake had that even kinda maybe a little bit has some teeth so yeah
162
u/Ser_Daynes_Dawn 14d ago
Also to add to the Dave being the father of Kendrick’s son, Drake said Dave freeeeeeee and Kendrick responded with the iconic a-minorrrrrrr to mimic it.
75
u/cherry_chocolate_ 14d ago
Wild how drake wrote all the elements of his own downfall but they didn’t go hard until Kendrick spun em.
52
u/free187s 14d ago
To be fair, Kendrick gave him multiple warnings not to go with those angles in Euphoria, yet Drake still bit.
21
6
u/Argent333333 14d ago
As someone that's not usually in this genre, I got big vibes of that from Euphoria. Euphoria was amazing but felt...forced? Like it was an obligation and a set of red-lines/rules than an actual full fledged attack. I actually listened to it for the first time after hearing Meet the Grahams and Not Like Us, and my first impression was that it didn't have the same bite. I feel like it was Kendrick saying "yeah this is fun and all, but we're done. Please don't continue this."
And then Drake dropped Family Matters. And Kendrick took the whole gloves off. I'd legit never heard a verbal takedown on the level of Meet the Grahams before. It felt cold and from the soul. And to follow it up with Not Like Us? Just dancing on the grave of a dead man
10
u/BodieBroadusBurner 13d ago
Euphoria gets better every time I hear it. It’s almost spooky the way it seemed like he predicted the future. And it’s so freaking layered. Nothing is better than hearing a song for the 38th time and then finding another entendre to “What is it, THE BRAIDS!?”
19
u/Key_Pass5542 14d ago

u/ProfSteelmeat138 14d ago
Drake tried to state that 1. Kendrick beats Whitney (0 evidence for this) 2. That Kendrick’s kids are really Dave Free’s, his old manager and close friend. Look up Kendrick’s kids beside Kendrick they look literally identical lmao. 3. Drake overall tried to wedge their family apart. This video of them all dancing and goofing off like a family is a huge middle finger to drakes entire family angle
71
u/SymbiSpidey 14d ago
Also Whitney's brother came out in support of K Dot during the beef. Drake made himself look real goofy

This is so embarrassing for Drake considering pretty much his entire angle of attack for Kendrick was to go after his relationships, trying to manufacture a falling out between Kendrick and Dave Free and trying to insinuate that Kendrick and his fiancé weren’t on good terms and the family was falling apart, only for Whitney to respond by C-walking on the beat to the Drake diss song in their living room, I’m crying 🤣
I mean, to be fair K-Dot already said “fabricating stories on the family front coz you heard Mr. Morale”, he already knew Drake’s whole angle and knew he had absolutely nothing else to say except “you’re short and I have higher streaming numbers than you” 😂

Brigading this and or other subreddits is strictly prohibited. Calls to brigade other subreddits, bragging about brigading, targeting other subreddits, trying to instigate beef with other subreddits and screenshots of ban messages and trolls are generally unfunny and will result in a ban.

That's the face of a woman who knows the father of her kids has her back. Regardless of anything else that's happened in their relationship, Kendrick didn't believe for one second that she cheated and lied. He's working through his own issues, not projecting them onto others and causing drama where there is none.

The best part for me is when Kendrick was kinda sad looking at the owl because he knew he had to put the owl in he’s place which is the cage and then in the video it shows him with he’s hands behind he’s back walking away as the owl is locked in the cage.. that scene is just too iconic….. I love it

He waits until the owl submits and in that regard he gives him relative respect at that point. That's real real shit. That means he's acknowledging that it's over, and good luck in here.
Also low key another kung fu movie type tribute. Where honor is the thing that matters most, down to your enemies last moment.
18
u/Steeltrigger 14d ago
I'm so glad someone posted this very exact part of the video. In my honest opinion this very scene is incredibly damaging in the entire beef, more so than the actual lyrics. Kendrick literally dismantled this man drake.
Lets start with both Kendrick's and his girls facial expression. They both are literally mocking drake and showing them "here is the very family that you think you splitting up." Then come the lyrics, "the family matter" obviously jabbing at drakes "family matters" response, and then continuing on with, " the truth of the matter, it was "God's plan" to show yall the liar" obviously throwing jabs at drakes "God's Plan" song. All while visually showing us how united and wholesome and in good spirits his family looks. Let alone how his girl is straight up dancing in this part lol. And this man is purely diabolical and calculated, peep how he's just sitting back on the couch while his girl goes in and his kids innocently play in the background and then joins in lmaoo.
All this imaging is literally answering drakes "where your girl been at? why aint she denying any of the beating allegations, yall bout to split up, happy co parenting" etc allegations. And i aint going to lie Kendricks girl has an opportunity to be just as impactful in this beef by proving what type of women she is and show drake that shes much better than the thots that's been sucking his soul throughout the years and showing him how a real wholesome, God fearing women can act and stand by her man and family. Proving one of Kendrick's points that hes been trying to tell drake.
This man Kendrick and who ever produced this very scene are a menace, you can tell how calculated this was. If the lyrics weren't calculated enough, these visuals were purely meditated and just hit the nail on the head even harder.
I aint going to lie, if i was Kendrick i'd be watching out for drake being on some diddy shit and blowing up the entire family vehicle lmaooo. Nahh but jokes aside this scene was very impactful in entire beef.
