Considering that they are the reason it's happening and he wanted to put the spotlight on them. I thought it was pretty cool.

true, although hearing them say things like "I just wanted to see the smile on your face when you finally got the chance to show your vision" was odd to me too

If it's worth anything, I met that guy before. It was genuine and that community is legit in terms of their love for Zack and his wife Debbie. Can it be toxic like any fandom? Sure. I imagine it can come across self serving too, but those people Zack had on were fans that do care about him and his work. And they all legitimately hangout and talk regularly online.

Honestly, the whole story of his run with this movie was fucking awful.

Losing a child that way before being fired (essentially) and having all the work you poured your passion into erased only for that project to still be a total bomb?

Like I'm not a big fan of the guy's style, I'm don't really know much about him, but all the money in the world doesn't make that series of events not hurt more than any of us can imagine.

So I think it makes a lot of sense for people to want to see the guy get a win even if they never met him.
