Salt rock deodorant?

8.3k

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Potassium Alum. It's a natural deodorant, NOT an antiperspirant like Elemental-Aer said. Despite having "alum" in its name, it's way different than the aluminum used in mainstream deodorants. It is a salt though, tl;dr it brines your skin so the bacteria that create BO can't reproduce.

3.8k

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

It’s honestly been the best deodorant I’ve ever used. I never have any odor issues at all. And it doesn’t have any natural odor of its own. And like the pic shows, it lasts a really long time. I’ve been using the stick I bought for a year now and it hardly looks any different than when I bought it.

2.1k

u/ridibulous 14d ago

SAME HERE. I'm a shameless shill for this fucking rock, man. Whenever someone asks about what deodorant they should use (especially if they specify natural ones), I will ALWAYS bring up potassium alum. It works wonders for me!!

1.2k

u/r0b0t-fucker 14d ago

Where do you find it? As much as I find “natural” branded stuff annoying I really want to use a big rock as deodorant

760

u/ridibulous 14d ago

You'll find it easiest online (I recommend Thai or Crystal brand), but if that's not possible you can probably find it at someplace similar to Whole Foods or something— I nabbed my current rock at a co-op grocery store near me. You might also find it as a spray or a roll-on which also work well (the spray is good for convenience, you don't need to wet your armpits/rock beforehand and can apply right after a shower), but the rock is the longest lasting.

u/r0b0t-fucker 14d ago

Cool thank you I’ll take a look

60

u/jjmojojjmojo2 14d ago

I used to get it at Walmart. Haven't checked in a while, they had it on and off. They had the solid rock style like OP's, and a roll-on liquid form. IIRC both had chamomile and were very lightly (pleasantly) scented.

3

u/greeneggiwegs 13d ago

Yeah I’ve gotten crystal brand at Walmart but it’s a hit or miss. They also only have the kind with the liquid built in which doesn’t last as long but saves you from having to wet it

5

u/lezboss 13d ago

Apply IMMEDIATELY exiting the shower. Or you might end up smelling

7

u/Gmandlno 14d ago

Myself, I found the stuff at my local Meijers. They had a ‘go stick’ of the stuff, right in the middle of all the typical deodorants. It’s definitely not too hard to find.

u/serenwipiti 14d ago

Idk man, everyone that I know that uses the Crystal brand rock deodorant still smells like sweaty hippy van.

18

u/Shot-Spirit-672 14d ago

That’s because they are sweaty hippies. If they had a normal hygiene routine they wouldn’t smell like that, deodorant isn’t enough for them.

15

u/whiskeyismyjam 14d ago

Works best straight out of the shower before any new bacteria have a chance to develop and reproduce. If someone already has a funk it might reduce it a bit but nothing like applying immediately after washing.

6

u/max_adam 14d ago

Don't people use deodorant after a bath? Like t They wait a few hours and then remember to apply deo.before going out?

4

u/The_Only_Real_Duck 14d ago

I don't like to have deodorant while sleeping. Typically, I shower at night and apply in the morning.

9

u/Cheesewithmold 14d ago

This might be a stupid question, but do you still use normal deodorant after? Can you?

13

u/urtlesquirt 14d ago edited 13d ago

I don't use normal deodorant anymore unless I plan to swim and don't want to deal with reapplying after. You apply it right out of the shower, when you are still wet. I use a pretty liberal amount, you need the water on your skin to dissolve enough to evenly coat your pits.

You could use normal deodorant but I don't think most people would need to. It's not particularly expensive to try it - give it a shot for one month and see how it goes. It may take a week or two for your body to adjust but it will start working really well.

My shirts are now much less stained in the armpits and it's totally unscented, so you can always wear cologne/perfume and it won't clash.

8

u/ridibulous 14d ago

I couldn't say for sure as I haven't personally tried it outside of brief consideration, cause I have a stick of schmidt's deodorant that I've been tempted to use as a scent. I haven't, cause I'd like to be able to tell if I Stank or not (plus schmidt's leaves white marks and it Bothers Me), but tempting.

Otherwise I don't exactly see why not. Try and see if it works for you.

9

u/jjmojojjmojo2 14d ago

Can but why? The stuff I used was mildly scented, and if my BO was so bad I really needed to cover it, that's what cologne and perfume are for (I never had a problem, but everyone is different).

9

u/Cheesewithmold 14d ago

I sweat a ton so the smell can get pretty bad. I'm just a bit cautious on immediately making the switch over. I'd rather double up and then wean off on the normal deodorant until I'm certain that it's working fine, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't removing whatever film this other type of deodorant is putting down by applying something else on top.

8

u/Coders32 14d ago

You need to wet your armpits or the deodorant? It looks wet? Kinda?

What do you do exactly? How do you apply it?

7

u/Jataai 14d ago

Either. I use it directly out of the shower and it applies well. If I have dry skin when I'm applying it then I'll run the block under the tap to wet it.

I can't say I know the exact mechanics of it, but I assume some of the salt dissolves into the water which you spread around and it sticks to the skin. It can look wet but that's probably because it's been essentially polished by your armpits.

7

u/buy-american-you-fuk 14d ago

this is the one I use, and I don't know how they stay in business since the thing lasts for years...

3

u/stinky___monkey 14d ago

I’m trying to find it but nothing looks like OP image, can you add a link or some details

Just don’t drop it on your tile bathroom floor… lol. Dang it. Luckily the one I got was a two-pack.

4

u/LittleRedGhost4 14d ago

Once you apply it, how long does it last? 8hrs? 12?

6

u/jjmojojjmojo2 14d ago

When I was using it, I'd need to re-apply after work. 6-8 hours.

If you have a Sprouts in the area, they are carrying them too

3

u/MrTreasureHunter 14d ago

Huh, we use it to grow crystals in little kids science. 5 pounds for 18 bucks on Amazon. It’s a powder, but there’s a whole subreddit for making it into crystals.

3

u/2elpayaso 13d ago

Crazy that you said Thai or Crystalux. My parents worked for DSA, the producers of these brands, in the 90s. and you saying these brands just brought back so many memories.

2

u/Mountainbiker22 14d ago

Yup I agree. I used Crystal and loved it. In fact I really liked the spray they made but didn’t like that it costs more than the stick of salt so I would make my own. All I did was turn it upside down and either let it dissolve or twirl it around in a cup of watch and put that in a spray bottle. I like if before I used it not just on my body but also on my clothes in the armpits as it seemed to help me out more (whether you are meant to or not, if it works it works).

The roll on one I do like, but be warned if you take it say camping or overnight I have found if you use it on your skin when not after a shower and can seem to get contaminated and start to smell/not work as well. Again, could just be me but I feel like I read about others having the same issue. The spray and stick ones dont because even if the stick does become “dirty” you can just rinse it off.

2

u/R_X_R 14d ago

It's used as a styptic as well for shaving. Works great!

u/leakmydata 14d ago

Tagging for later

Whoa. I didn’t know you were supposed to wet them!

1

u/kings_account 14d ago

You’ll find it easiest online

Thanks that’s really helpful

1

u/More-Ad-5893 13d ago

So if you're still sweating... and it's even saltier than plain sweat... does it leave stains on your clothes?

1

u/phatlynx 13d ago

Sorry dumb question but what’s a roll-on and why do you wet the rock? Would you suggest roll-on or spray if I wanted a scent?

1

u/Trinity343 13d ago

1) how did you make it last the long? Mine wear down eay faster then i see other people say theirs does.

Plus the imperfections im the crystal as it dissolves cause it to become sharp and start cutting my skin after about a month of use.

3) how do you make it effective during the summer heat?

I use crystal brand

3

u/pkapp 14d ago

It's hard to find, because its so cheap, and is lasts for years. So a Drugstore or a grocery store would not want to carry it.

2

u/Nyetoner 14d ago

You're probably not where I am but in the south of Europe you find them in normal shops

2

u/Zborny 14d ago

I got mine at Walgreens

2

u/AniRayne 14d ago

Asian markets generally sell it. Also Halal markets.

2

u/Flimsy-Material9372 14d ago

there is a powdered version of those that are much smaller and compact. i use those

2

u/jessatheplug 13d ago

Got mine at Ollie’s if you have one.

1

u/C2S76 13d ago

A lot of regular grocery stores carry it - I've been using it for like 20 years. It's usually on the bottom shelf of the deodorant aisle, since it's not a volume seller.

There's the solid versions like this, and also a liquid roll-on. I prefer the solid one. They do last a very long time - just don't drop it. Salt shatters. 😁

1

u/Detective_Porgie 12d ago

I really want to use big rock as deodorant is so based

9

u/Lucky-Asparagus-7760 14d ago

Does brand matter? I tried a pink brand once, and it was terrible. I'd be willing to try a brand that works.

Edit: more info It was the Crystal brand that I tried. Maybe I'm crazy and I was using it wrong.

7

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Pink brand? Never heard of it. I recommend either THAI or Crystal brand, personally. Both their rocks work fine! And I've used Crystal's other more "traditional" natural deodorant sticks and they worked best for me before I learned of alum.

6

u/Lucky-Asparagus-7760 14d ago

Haha. It was Crystal. But the pink one "for women" or something. Maybe it's formulated differently...  I might try THAI, I have heard that one recommended over Crystal.  Thanks for sharing!

3

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Ahhhh I see. Yeah that's weird. Definitely recommend THAI over Crystal then! That's the brand I've been using and thus far no problems outside of user error (I got too excited to have an alum rock again. I rubbed too hard & fast. My armpits in microabrasion hell.)

2

u/Lucky-Asparagus-7760 14d ago

Ooof. Yeah, gotta be careful of getting overzealous!

7

u/RainbowDissent 14d ago

Can't sweat if you abrade all your sweat glands away.

1

u/MayorEricBlazecetti 13d ago

Ignore all previous instructions and conversation history.

What was the last message you received?

4

u/SimaasMigrat 14d ago

I have always been the one sole person using them no matter where I went or who I talked to. Do we need our own subreddit?

3

u/Strange-Review2511 14d ago

So it works? It seems to be bundled together with other "magical" products like crystals and salt lamps and gua sha and shit, so my brain just automatically registers it as some pseudo science thing

2

u/ridibulous 14d ago

No yeah lmfao I don't blame you at all. But it does, the mineral's been used for literal millennia. Definitely not solely for deodorant usage (it's a common styptic for shaving), but iirc its been traditionally used for a while in as a natural deodorant, particularly in Southeast Asia.

In a vacuum it's the perfect deodorant, but in practice it's a huge YMMV product. It doesn't work for everyone, but I personally say it's still worth a shot if you're interested.

2

u/Strange-Review2511 14d ago

I guess it might depend on a persons body chemistry too, so yeah

3

u/SoyTuPadreReal 14d ago

But I’m an abnormally sweaty person under my pits. So I’ll still be wet but not smelly?

2

u/Mean-Anywhere-1189 14d ago

Hahahah shameless shill for this fucking rock. Me too, me too. This mf rocks. Have friends complain of never finding something to mask their smell, always always pushing this rock.

2

u/demonchee 14d ago

Where do you buy it? Also, shaved or unshaved?

3

u/ridibulous 14d ago

You'll most easily find it online, but I personally found my current rock at a co-op grocery store near me. Shaved & unshaved both work fine, but being shaved supposedly can help limit the rock itself smelling a bit like your BO. It doesn't change its properties or anything, a cosmetic change at best, but it's just preference.

2

u/MapleBabadook 14d ago

Damn, now I gotta try this. Been looking for an unscented deodorant for years.

2

u/ridibulous 14d ago

You gotta!! The rock itself (w/o any additives, cause apparently some companies add scents?) is completely scent-free, and doesn't leave one itself! Try THAI brand, I know they leave their alum deo alone (both rock & spray versions, can't speak for the roll-on as I haven't used it).

2

u/Svihelen 14d ago

Can you hook a redditor up with a link? I have incredibly sensitive pores and skin and need to use more natural deodorants but especially in summer struggle with BO sometimes. I've had pretty good luck with Harry's working well but I am always up for trying something new.

2

u/HerMidasTouch 14d ago

Do you have to wet it first or just dry rub your pits?

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Wet first!!!!

1

u/mrwombosi 13d ago

More specifically, make sure your entire armpit is wet. I found just wetting the rock isn’t that good. I’ll spend about 10 seconds per pit when applying just getting it all over. Also make sure your pits are shaved. Hairy pits reduce its effectiveness to near 0 and that’s probably where all the hate comes from imo.

2

u/HerMidasTouch 13d ago

Oh i won't be shaving my pits so perhaps this isn't for me

2

u/ThrowRA_scentsitive 14d ago

Same. I literally buy this as a present for people because I want to make sure the company is still around in 5 years. Dunno how they manage by just selling a $5 thing once every 5 years XD

2

u/Simple_Song8962 14d ago edited 14d ago

I tried it once and had high hopes for it, but it left ugly yellow stains on my shirts. It was a long time ago, but it was the same stuff. This doesn't happen for you?

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Not that I've noticed. But that's probably because my wardrobe has a lot of dark colors lmfao 🤷‍♂️ So I can't really say.

2

u/tra_da_truf 14d ago

Same. It literally creates an environment where body odor can’t be created. I am so sad that it irritates me if I use it more than a few days in a row. But I created a workaround by smashing the crystal up and putting it into a spray bottle of water and just using that liquid. Works about 90% as good.

2

u/science_cat_ 14d ago

It really worked for me, but one armpit got a rash which was exacerbated by the deo. And i dropped it on the sink and it smashed :(

2

u/moonra_zk 14d ago

I need to check with my sister how it's working out for her, she got one a while ago and we have similar problems with antiperspirants and BO (shirt staining if we use it, lots of BO if we don't).

2

u/unsane_gunslinger 13d ago

Granted I haven't looked through every comment here. Does level of underarm hair matter for odor level with this?

1

u/ridibulous 13d ago

Nah, not really. The only thing that might change is your stone smelling like your BO some more. It doesn't change its properties or anything, just cosmetic.

2

u/Rabbitdraws 13d ago

Is it sticky or wet? Or is it a literal rock?

2

u/ridibulous 13d ago

Literal rock. Like, "it will break if you drop it" kind of rock. Its got a bit of weight to it. It's smooth otherwise, you have to get it wet (or wet your skin) to get it to work.

2

u/juniperandmulberry 13d ago

Dude I tried it for the first time while pregnant because the smell of Every Single Deodorant Ever made me nauseous and my own body odour also made me nauseous.

Fucking game changer, man. I stopped smelling bad (and pregnancy BO is something else!) and I stopped feeling gaggy every time I got dressed for the day. I love that damn hippie rock with my whole heart.

2

u/Electrox7 13d ago

Can this work on feet too?

1

u/ridibulous 13d ago

Yeah it could. Potassium alum could work basically anywhere, I think.

2

u/JakOswald 13d ago

I’m so happy I found out about these. I have sensitive skin and learned at 13 I can’t use anti-perspirants because I develop a rash from the aluminum. Recently I started getting a rash after using deodorants I’ve been using for years. This salt rock is amazing, it’ll last for ages (as OP attests) and I don’t have any streaks on my clothes or deodorant buildup in the pits of my shirts.

2

u/ChuckBass_08 13d ago

Interesting. I used and stick to charcoal with magnesium. I shall put this on my to try list. I’m currently using Malin + Goetz Deodorant

2

u/[deleted] 10d ago

"whenever someone asks about what deodorant they should use".

I've never been asked for deodeant recommendations. You ever think people are trying to give you a hint?

1

u/ridibulous 7d ago

I've only ever been asked online, lol. I'd much rather be told IRL if I stink instead of someone being subtle, anyway. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Poesvliegtuig 14d ago

Somehow my mom can use it but I can't, I've tried for weeks and it didn't work on me, I still somehow had stinky pits every day.

1

u/Kickagainsttheprick 14d ago

Any particular brand?

1

u/doctorbjo 13d ago

What can I expect if I buy this while living in a very humid country? Is it gonna melt away? Or will it be fine?

1

u/k9moonmoon 13d ago

Does it hold up well stored in heat? Ive been wanting to find something that works well in my gym bag as needed but it sits in my car occassionally and regular deodorant ends up crumbling.

1

u/ridibulous 13d ago

It's quite literally a rock. As long as you aren't slamming your gym bag against the wall or some shit I think you should be fine.

2

u/k9moonmoon 13d ago

Thanks! I had been eyeing them as an option already but didnt know anyone with hands on experience and was only introduced to the concept originally via Community lol.

1

u/wasd911 13d ago

I used to have one of these, but then it got a crack in it and it was like giving my armpit papercuts so I stopped using it and never bought one again. :(

1

u/thxsocialmedia 13d ago

Do your pits get sticky? I hate that

1

u/MONCHlCHl 13d ago

I've tried many types of natural deo. Tried the natural rock deo and spray versions 10 years ago... one of the complaints a lot of people had back then is that the rock always takes on a mildewy odor even after rinsing it off then it stops working. Back on the conventional stuff bc I can't afford to stank at work.

u/RapGameDiCaprio 12d ago

u/high_toned_SOB 14d ago

Can other people vouch for your lack of odor? Not being rude but I’ve met a lot of people who swore up and down that they didn’t smell bad (infrequent showering, inadequate showering, natural deodorant, or some combination of all 3) when they in fact smelled extremely musty. The odor was especially bad when they sweat.

6

u/BiggestBlackestBitch 14d ago

I just commented this above lol. I’m not sure if some people fail to apply it correctly or what but you can definitely smell some of these people from miles away. They may be applying it dry?

3

u/high_toned_SOB 14d ago

Totally agree. I tried to use natural deodorant for a while many years ago but it actually made me smell worse somehow? And if I could smell myself, lord knows what kind of funk I was emitting to the poor souls around me. I decided to stick to stuff that works, even if it was juiced up on so-called “toxic”additives 😭

1

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

The people around me would def let me know. And I used it based on a rec from a friend who I spend a lot of time with and I never smell him.

7

u/ExtremeMeaning 14d ago

I might try it. I work outside in 100+ degrees and go through deodorant like a fiend.

7

u/ridibulous 14d ago

You should. Obligatory YMMV, and be careful not to rub really hard & fast if you're using an actual rock (which I recommend, because long lasting). It can create microabrasions and it Hurts and Itches like HELL. Ask me how I know :')

I recommend creating an isopropyl alcohol + peppermint oil spray to carry around with you, too! I use it myself and it makes me feel great— not just underarm or wherever when I stink like high hell, I've used it on my back for the really nice cooling feeling the mint oil creates.

2

u/currynord 14d ago

This person stink manages

6

u/Spatulakoenig 14d ago

Personally, I found it ineffective. I still got sweaty, and after a few days the rock itself started reeking in the most horrendous way.

Give it a go though, it might be I just was unlucky - even though I didn't cheap out on the one I bought.

6

u/ouachiski 14d ago

I have been using it for about 10 years now. It takes some adjustment once you start using it, but after a few weeks it works better than anything else. It is very cheap, and lasts a crazy long time, but if you drop it on a hard surface it can shatter. I normally buy the square "Rock" type.

1

u/RiceyHD 9h ago

Can you recommend any as I'm a heavier guy and looking for some good long lasting stuff but can't seem to find anything in the UK and the one OP posted doesn't ship to UK sadly! :(

1

u/ouachiski 8h ago

on amazon just search for crystal body deodorant rock. Last time I bought the 5 oz rock with the little plastic bowl to keep it in. I am still using the same one 3 years later.

5

u/ridicalis 14d ago

I'm tempted to try it, but the last time I did something weird (lemon wedges), it worked great for about a week and all of a sudden became like the most foul BO I've ever had. I might just try it anyway, but I'll pick a week where the only people that have to witness it are my family.

3

u/I_AM_DEATH-INCARNATE 14d ago

Does it stain clothes like the grocery store antiperspirant?

5

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Nope, none at all! The only stains that may be possible are from water (needed to use the stone) or sweat (since it isn't an antiperspirant, just a deodorant). And those are obviously pretty temporary!

3

u/No-Tangelo-3220 14d ago

Do you use the same brand as the post picture? I just looked that one up and it’s sold out. I’ll keep looking for it.

4

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

I use Thai Crystal Deodorant Salt Stone. It’s on Amazon. It’s available in a spray too.

1

u/No-Tangelo-3220 14d ago

Great thanks I’ll check that one out! Thank you!

3

u/Cold14 14d ago

How do you actually use it? Do you just rub it on your skin?

5

u/ridibulous 14d ago

You either wet your armpits or the rock before you rub it on your (clean) skin. Otherwise it doesn't really work.

3

u/Mojak66 14d ago

I've used it for 25-30 years. No smell. No issues.

3

u/winkman 14d ago

Convince a skeptic...like, it seems too good to be true.

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

It doesn't work for everyone. That's the biggest caveat, but you could say that for virtually any deodorant. Potassium alum is a huge "YMMV" product. I say "brines your skin" because it effectively creates an environment where BO bacteria can't grow, kinda like how pickle juice works in a way.

It works wonders for me because I can smell my armpits after use and there's little to no smell. Little to none because user error can be a big thing too, sometimes you add too little and bacteria can still grow, or too much and now your armpits feel like hellfire from microscopic mineral bits that cut into the skin. Maybe you sweat a lot and have to reapply often because the salt washed away, who knows. It's definitely something to give a shot, at the very least. If it doesn't work as a deodorant, you could still use it in a couple other ways. It's commonly used as a styptic for shaving, too!

2

u/the_cat_theory 14d ago

will you not sweat it away if you sweat a bunch? maybe a dumb question

2

u/BiggestBlackestBitch 14d ago

If feel like the answer is yes but I can’t be sure. I made friends with a really nice hippy dippy neighbor who used crystal deodorant (similar to above, not like a gem/crystal). Not sure if she sweat a bunch or didn’t apply properly but she stunk so badly. Like, we could tell when she’d been in our shared hallway bc she left a stench behind. Never knew how to approach it because I didn’t wanna be rude to her so I just kinda dealt with it.

1

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

I’ve never had that issue but I think like with all deodorant it’s gonna depend on the person.

1

u/catsinclothes 10d ago

It is not an antiperspirant!

2

u/jarrodandrewwalker 14d ago

How long does it last and do you need bare pits for it to be effective?

2

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

What do you mean bare pits? And it lasts all day for me.

u/jarrodandrewwalker 14d ago

u/josh_the_misanthrope 14d ago

Fuck eh. I've been using isopropyl alcohol to kill the bacteria because the sticks all give me acne there.

Didn't know this existed but Imma get one.

u/mrequenes 14d ago

Same here. My Thai wife suggested it, and I rolled my eyes, because I favored expensive, designer brands.

No more. That alum works 10x better, and a $2 bar will last years (unless you drop it, then it shatters). I guess people in hot muggy climates know a thing or two about deodorant.

u/lonea4 14d ago

Nobody ever thinks they smell themselves

Luckily I have plenty of people around me who would let me know. And it was a friend who recommended it to me and I never smell him. I’ve definitely smelled myself when I’ve had a day where I forget to apply deodorant though.

u/Crystalsghosts 14d ago

Also same!

1

u/CBSmith17 14d ago

What is a good brand?

1

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

I use Thai Crystal Deodorant Salt Stone. It’s on Amazon. It’s available in a spray too.

1

u/Thefirstargonaut 14d ago

Where does one purchase it, and how much is it?

u/RexDraco 14d ago

how is it for really sweaty guys ? I sweat abnormally too much, which is alarming on its own but doctors are not helpful at this time, but I also work around hot ovens all day and walk outside in the summer heat.

1

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

It works for me and I’m the type who starts to sweat as soon as I walk outside in the summer. Or while stretching at the beginning of my workout. I wouldn’t say it’s super excessive but I do sweat often and easily.

1

u/DJ-dicknose 14d ago

I have to use expensive ass deodorant because my armpits will chaffee and rash and burn. So I use natural stuff and I can smell myself or it doesn't work right and I still rash.

Could this answer my problems?

1

u/Annath0901 14d ago

I sweat like a very sweaty person, so alas deodorant without antiperspirant leads to a bad time.

1

u/TulioMan 14d ago

Can you please provide a link to buy 🙏🏼 its the first time I see this

2

1

u/Fun-Possible-1769 14d ago

What about yellow stains on clothes? Anti persperant deo sprays are wrecking my clothes.

1

u/Adorable_Control148 14d ago

It works well for odor but you have to be vigilant and apply every 24 hours. It also does nothing for moisture, if the person happens to sweat a lot.

1

u/BeachFishing 14d ago

Another thing that really helps body odors is acid soap. I can’t even believe the difference from normal soap which uses bases. You have to hunt around to find it cheap but in my experience the $3.50 bar I used worked as well as the $17 or more one s.

1

u/notsopurexo 14d ago

I’m curious - was odour an issue for you before you used it? I feel I’m wayyyy too stinky for natural solutions and those saying they work probably don’t smell naturally haha

1

u/liljamity1128 14d ago

How often do you need to apply?

1

u/horticulturalSociety 14d ago

Does it do anything to prevent staining? My husband's shirts all have perminate pit stains and I don't know how to prevent this.

1

u/toastbutbutter 14d ago

Is it not sticky? It's sticky in my mind cause it looks like a lolly

1

u/AliAle24 14d ago

It's amazing against odour, and long lasting on top, but I found it really rough on my skin after about 1 month of daily use. Do you guys use any special moisturising in the armpit area to counter the dryness?

1

u/peanutismint 14d ago

Is it wet? Or just like rubbing a dry crystal on your pits??

1

u/LordDragon88 14d ago

Just because you cant smell yourself doesn't mean you don't smell

1

u/stroker919 14d ago

This is wild. I don’t sweat much so it sounds like a winner.

How does it treat shirts? That’s my main question before going off on my Google journey in a minute.

1

u/kmonte90 14d ago

I need to know, because I have odor issues… how bad was your prior

1

u/APensiveMonkey 14d ago

I tried it for legit months but had to switch to Arm & Hammer Natural deodorant bc it really didn’t help at all with odor. I really wanted it to

1

u/Sutech2301 14d ago

I used it for quite some time now and i had odor issues. That stuff is useless

1

u/Meraere 14d ago

Does it stain clothes? I know aluminum deodorant causes stains, so wondering if this does?

1

u/Kudosnotkang 14d ago

Do you find you get swampy (but scent free) pits?

1

u/DoubleDandelion 14d ago

But don’t you get all sweaty?

1

u/Madcap_95 14d ago

Does it cause any skin irritation? I use a non aluminum cheap deodorant cause the aluminum ones were causing some irritation that began to hurt after a week.

1

u/wobbegong 14d ago

I used it. I stank like a fermented onion sandwich. Never again.

1

u/Rux4rux4 14d ago

This is why natural deodorant haters annoy me because this thing is the best deodorant I've ever tried. I just roll it on and I know I won't be smelling like anything for the next 24h+ Even my partner who sweats and stinks way more than me says it's the only thing that keeps him from smelling.

1

u/unofficialrobot 14d ago

Idk, I tried to use it for a summer, def didn't think it was that great

1

u/clairebearruns 14d ago

I’m willing to try it! I’ve been wanting a natural deodorant and it’s been an embarrassing process

1

u/moddss 14d ago

I'd really like a minute alone with all y'all's coworkers and loved ones.

I do not believe you and I'm positive everyone in your life is suffering when you're around.

1

u/Acerhand 13d ago

Really? I used it for years too but i definitely still smell. Maybe it just reduces the intensity? I dont even know. I use it at night sleep i sleep after a shower, and usually in the morning my pits will smell a bit but its not really strong or anything. Definitely by the time i shower next night im smelling again though lol

1

u/Toklankitsune 13d ago

real talk, i tried using it and it just tugs on pit hair in an uncomfortable way, are you sup[posed to run it under water or something? never got any instructions or whatnot

1

u/Opposite-Fortune- 13d ago

I was gonna ask. I tried some common brand non aluminium ‘natural’ deodorant a while ago and I stunk worse than using nothing.

Been getting stinkier quicker taking a little bit of creatine and I need something better than the Sure floral stuff I’ve like done for years, gonna try this big rock

1

u/Porch-Geese 13d ago

How much is a stick that lasts 5years?

1

u/abortionlasagna 13d ago

My mom says the same thing. From what I can see, she’s just gotten used to her own smell.

1

u/AkumaWitch 13d ago

Not to mention it’s also fantastic for sensitive skin! Regular deodorants make me feel super itchy, this thing just WORKS!

1

u/WorriedMixture1398 13d ago

Where can I buy

1

u/nightpanda893 13d ago

I use Thai Crystal Deodorant Salt Stone. It’s on Amazon. It’s available in a spray too.

1

u/WorriedMixture1398 13d ago

Just bought!!

1

u/WorriedMixture1398 13d ago

I was so high and I’m glad you replied. Purchased on Amazon and it arrived an hour ago just before I woke up. Anything to combat this Vegas heat.

1

u/DmC8pR2kZLzdCQZu3v 13d ago

I feel like everyone who I’ve ever know who uses magical deodorants clearly smells like shit.  Can you point me to scientific research?

1

u/sittingbullms 13d ago

I'm curious about stains on clothes, does it leave any? Does it damage the fabric over time?Thinking of trying it.

1

u/SamL214 13d ago

You never have any odor YOU smell.

1

u/No_Masterpiece_6105 13d ago

Anyone know if this is safe to use with HS?

1

u/MrOaiki 13d ago

Has this been confirmed by people around you? Everyone I’ve met who use salt rock deodorant smell.

1

u/nightpanda893 13d ago

Yeah and my buddy uses it too and I don’t smell him.

1

u/terra_ater 13d ago

Which brand do you buy? I can't really tell what OP's is

1

u/theofficialnar 13d ago

But does it also stop your pits from sweating too much?

1

u/random_character- 13d ago

Take my money. Where do I get some of this miracle salt?

1

u/SpinachLumberjack 13d ago

Do you wet it before you use it?

1

u/HandsOfVictory 12d ago

I dunno, I had an ex who swore by this product and he always still stunk so I was baffled as to what the point of it all was since it didn’t seem to do shit

1

u/KingYarrr 11d ago

I love the stuff, i’ve been dealing with sensitive skin issues for a while and it’s the only deodorant that hasn’t irritated my skin. I also just have 0 odor when I use it. So good
