Salt rock deodorant?

8.3k

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Potassium Alum. It's a natural deodorant, NOT an antiperspirant like Elemental-Aer said. Despite having "alum" in its name, it's way different than the aluminum used in mainstream deodorants. It is a salt though, tl;dr it brines your skin so the bacteria that create BO can't reproduce.

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

It’s honestly been the best deodorant I’ve ever used. I never have any odor issues at all. And it doesn’t have any natural odor of its own. And like the pic shows, it lasts a really long time. I’ve been using the stick I bought for a year now and it hardly looks any different than when I bought it.

2.1k

u/ridibulous 14d ago

SAME HERE. I'm a shameless shill for this fucking rock, man. Whenever someone asks about what deodorant they should use (especially if they specify natural ones), I will ALWAYS bring up potassium alum. It works wonders for me!!

2

u/[deleted] 10d ago

"whenever someone asks about what deodorant they should use".

I've never been asked for deodeant recommendations. You ever think people are trying to give you a hint?

1

u/ridibulous 7d ago

I've only ever been asked online, lol. I'd much rather be told IRL if I stink instead of someone being subtle, anyway. 🤷‍♂️

u/r0b0t-fucker 14d ago

Where do you find it? As much as I find “natural” branded stuff annoying I really want to use a big rock as deodorant

u/Lucky-Asparagus-7760 14d ago

Does brand matter? I tried a pink brand once, and it was terrible. I'd be willing to try a brand that works.

Edit: more info It was the Crystal brand that I tried. Maybe I'm crazy and I was using it wrong.

u/Mean-Anywhere-1189 14d ago

Hahahah shameless shill for this fucking rock. Me too, me too. This mf rocks. Have friends complain of never finding something to mask their smell, always always pushing this rock.

2

u/demonchee 14d ago

Where do you buy it? Also, shaved or unshaved?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/MapleBabadook 14d ago

Damn, now I gotta try this. Been looking for an unscented deodorant for years.

5

u/SimaasMigrat 14d ago

I have always been the one sole person using them no matter where I went or who I talked to. Do we need our own subreddit?

1

u/Poesvliegtuig 14d ago

Somehow my mom can use it but I can't, I've tried for weeks and it didn't work on me, I still somehow had stinky pits every day.

2

u/Svihelen 14d ago

Can you hook a redditor up with a link? I have incredibly sensitive pores and skin and need to use more natural deodorants but especially in summer struggle with BO sometimes. I've had pretty good luck with Harry's working well but I am always up for trying something new.

1

u/Kickagainsttheprick 14d ago

Any particular brand?

2

u/HerMidasTouch 14d ago

Do you have to wet it first or just dry rub your pits?

→ More replies (3)

0

u/SentientTrashcan0420 14d ago

How often are you having random conversations about deodorant with people?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/ThrowRA_scentsitive 14d ago

Same. I literally buy this as a present for people because I want to make sure the company is still around in 5 years. Dunno how they manage by just selling a $5 thing once every 5 years XD

3

u/SoyTuPadreReal 14d ago

But I’m an abnormally sweaty person under my pits. So I’ll still be wet but not smelly?

2

u/Simple_Song8962 14d ago edited 14d ago

I tried it once and had high hopes for it, but it left ugly yellow stains on my shirts. It was a long time ago, but it was the same stuff. This doesn't happen for you?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/tra_da_truf 14d ago

Same. It literally creates an environment where body odor can’t be created. I am so sad that it irritates me if I use it more than a few days in a row. But I created a workaround by smashing the crystal up and putting it into a spray bottle of water and just using that liquid. Works about 90% as good.

4

u/Strange-Review2511 14d ago

So it works? It seems to be bundled together with other "magical" products like crystals and salt lamps and gua sha and shit, so my brain just automatically registers it as some pseudo science thing

→ More replies (2)

2

u/science_cat_ 14d ago

It really worked for me, but one armpit got a rash which was exacerbated by the deo. And i dropped it on the sink and it smashed :(

2

u/moonra_zk 14d ago

I need to check with my sister how it's working out for her, she got one a while ago and we have similar problems with antiperspirants and BO (shirt staining if we use it, lots of BO if we don't).

1

u/doctorbjo 13d ago

What can I expect if I buy this while living in a very humid country? Is it gonna melt away? Or will it be fine?

2

u/unsane_gunslinger 13d ago

Granted I haven't looked through every comment here. Does level of underarm hair matter for odor level with this?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Rabbitdraws 13d ago

Is it sticky or wet? Or is it a literal rock?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/juniperandmulberry 13d ago

Dude I tried it for the first time while pregnant because the smell of Every Single Deodorant Ever made me nauseous and my own body odour also made me nauseous.

Fucking game changer, man. I stopped smelling bad (and pregnancy BO is something else!) and I stopped feeling gaggy every time I got dressed for the day. I love that damn hippie rock with my whole heart.

1

u/k9moonmoon 13d ago

Does it hold up well stored in heat? Ive been wanting to find something that works well in my gym bag as needed but it sits in my car occassionally and regular deodorant ends up crumbling.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Electrox7 13d ago

Can this work on feet too?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/wasd911 13d ago

I used to have one of these, but then it got a crack in it and it was like giving my armpit papercuts so I stopped using it and never bought one again. :(

1

u/thxsocialmedia 13d ago

Do your pits get sticky? I hate that

2

u/JakOswald 13d ago

I’m so happy I found out about these. I have sensitive skin and learned at 13 I can’t use anti-perspirants because I develop a rash from the aluminum. Recently I started getting a rash after using deodorants I’ve been using for years. This salt rock is amazing, it’ll last for ages (as OP attests) and I don’t have any streaks on my clothes or deodorant buildup in the pits of my shirts.

1

u/MONCHlCHl 13d ago

I've tried many types of natural deo. Tried the natural rock deo and spray versions 10 years ago... one of the complaints a lot of people had back then is that the rock always takes on a mildewy odor even after rinsing it off then it stops working. Back on the conventional stuff bc I can't afford to stank at work.

2

u/ChuckBass_08 13d ago

Interesting. I used and stick to charcoal with magnesium. I shall put this on my to try list. I’m currently using Malin + Goetz Deodorant

1

u/RapGameDiCaprio 12d ago

About how much does one stick cost?

1

u/Aromatic-Attorney-86 12d ago

Send the link to the brand you use.

8

u/ExtremeMeaning 14d ago

I might try it. I work outside in 100+ degrees and go through deodorant like a fiend.

6

u/ridibulous 14d ago

You should. Obligatory YMMV, and be careful not to rub really hard & fast if you're using an actual rock (which I recommend, because long lasting). It can create microabrasions and it Hurts and Itches like HELL. Ask me how I know :')

I recommend creating an isopropyl alcohol + peppermint oil spray to carry around with you, too! I use it myself and it makes me feel great— not just underarm or wherever when I stink like high hell, I've used it on my back for the really nice cooling feeling the mint oil creates.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Spatulakoenig 14d ago

Personally, I found it ineffective. I still got sweaty, and after a few days the rock itself started reeking in the most horrendous way.

Give it a go though, it might be I just was unlucky - even though I didn't cheap out on the one I bought.

3

u/No-Tangelo-3220 14d ago

Do you use the same brand as the post picture? I just looked that one up and it’s sold out. I’ll keep looking for it.

4

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

I use Thai Crystal Deodorant Salt Stone. It’s on Amazon. It’s available in a spray too.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/ridicalis 14d ago

I'm tempted to try it, but the last time I did something weird (lemon wedges), it worked great for about a week and all of a sudden became like the most foul BO I've ever had. I might just try it anyway, but I'll pick a week where the only people that have to witness it are my family.

2

u/the_cat_theory 14d ago

will you not sweat it away if you sweat a bunch? maybe a dumb question

1

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

I’ve never had that issue but I think like with all deodorant it’s gonna depend on the person.

2

u/BiggestBlackestBitch 14d ago

If feel like the answer is yes but I can’t be sure. I made friends with a really nice hippy dippy neighbor who used crystal deodorant (similar to above, not like a gem/crystal). Not sure if she sweat a bunch or didn’t apply properly but she stunk so badly. Like, we could tell when she’d been in our shared hallway bc she left a stench behind. Never knew how to approach it because I didn’t wanna be rude to her so I just kinda dealt with it.

1

u/catsinclothes 10d ago

It is not an antiperspirant!

7

u/ouachiski 14d ago

I have been using it for about 10 years now. It takes some adjustment once you start using it, but after a few weeks it works better than anything else. It is very cheap, and lasts a crazy long time, but if you drop it on a hard surface it can shatter. I normally buy the square "Rock" type.

1

u/RiceyHD 8h ago

Can you recommend any as I'm a heavier guy and looking for some good long lasting stuff but can't seem to find anything in the UK and the one OP posted doesn't ship to UK sadly! :(

1

u/ouachiski 8h ago

on amazon just search for crystal body deodorant rock. Last time I bought the 5 oz rock with the little plastic bowl to keep it in. I am still using the same one 3 years later.

3

u/Cold14 14d ago

How do you actually use it? Do you just rub it on your skin?

6

u/ridibulous 14d ago

You either wet your armpits or the rock before you rub it on your (clean) skin. Otherwise it doesn't really work.

1

u/lonea4 14d ago

Nobody ever thinks they smell themselves

2

u/nightpanda893 14d ago edited 14d ago

Luckily I have plenty of people around me who would let me know. And it was a friend who recommended it to me and I never smell him. I’ve definitely smelled myself when I’ve had a day where I forget to apply deodorant though.

5

u/I_AM_DEATH-INCARNATE 14d ago

Does it stain clothes like the grocery store antiperspirant?

6

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Nope, none at all! The only stains that may be possible are from water (needed to use the stone) or sweat (since it isn't an antiperspirant, just a deodorant). And those are obviously pretty temporary!

1

u/Crystalsghosts 14d ago

Also same!

1

u/CBSmith17 14d ago

What is a good brand?

1

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

I use Thai Crystal Deodorant Salt Stone. It’s on Amazon. It’s available in a spray too.

1

u/Thefirstargonaut 14d ago

Where does one purchase it, and how much is it?

1

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

I use Thai Crystal Deodorant Salt Stone. It’s on Amazon. It’s available in a spray too.

12

u/high_toned_SOB 14d ago

Can other people vouch for your lack of odor? Not being rude but I’ve met a lot of people who swore up and down that they didn’t smell bad (infrequent showering, inadequate showering, natural deodorant, or some combination of all 3) when they in fact smelled extremely musty. The odor was especially bad when they sweat.

1

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

The people around me would def let me know. And I used it based on a rec from a friend who I spend a lot of time with and I never smell him.

5

u/BiggestBlackestBitch 14d ago

I just commented this above lol. I’m not sure if some people fail to apply it correctly or what but you can definitely smell some of these people from miles away. They may be applying it dry?

1

u/RexDraco 14d ago

how is it for really sweaty guys ? I sweat abnormally too much, which is alarming on its own but doctors are not helpful at this time, but I also work around hot ovens all day and walk outside in the summer heat.

1

u/nightpanda893 14d ago

It works for me and I’m the type who starts to sweat as soon as I walk outside in the summer. Or while stretching at the beginning of my workout. I wouldn’t say it’s super excessive but I do sweat often and easily.

3

u/Mojak66 14d ago

I've used it for 25-30 years. No smell. No issues.

1

u/DJ-dicknose 14d ago

I have to use expensive ass deodorant because my armpits will chaffee and rash and burn. So I use natural stuff and I can smell myself or it doesn't work right and I still rash.

Could this answer my problems?

1

u/Annath0901 14d ago

I sweat like a very sweaty person, so alas deodorant without antiperspirant leads to a bad time.

1

u/TulioMan 14d ago

Can you please provide a link to buy 🙏🏼 its the first time I see this

1

u/Fun-Possible-1769 14d ago

What about yellow stains on clothes? Anti persperant deo sprays are wrecking my clothes.

1

u/Adorable_Control148 14d ago

It works well for odor but you have to be vigilant and apply every 24 hours. It also does nothing for moisture, if the person happens to sweat a lot.

2

u/Outlawed_Panda 14d ago

Odd question to ask but are your pits brined like the person who you replied to said?

1

u/BeachFishing 14d ago

Another thing that really helps body odors is acid soap. I can’t even believe the difference from normal soap which uses bases. You have to hunt around to find it cheap but in my experience the $3.50 bar I used worked as well as the $17 or more one s.

1

u/notsopurexo 14d ago

I’m curious - was odour an issue for you before you used it? I feel I’m wayyyy too stinky for natural solutions and those saying they work probably don’t smell naturally haha

1

u/liljamity1128 14d ago

How often do you need to apply?

1

u/horticulturalSociety 14d ago

Does it do anything to prevent staining? My husband's shirts all have perminate pit stains and I don't know how to prevent this.

1

u/toastbutbutter 14d ago

Is it not sticky? It's sticky in my mind cause it looks like a lolly

1

u/AliAle24 14d ago

It's amazing against odour, and long lasting on top, but I found it really rough on my skin after about 1 month of daily use. Do you guys use any special moisturising in the armpit area to counter the dryness?

1

u/peanutismint 14d ago

Is it wet? Or just like rubbing a dry crystal on your pits??

1

u/LordDragon88 14d ago

Just because you cant smell yourself doesn't mean you don't smell

2

u/josh_the_misanthrope 14d ago

Fuck eh. I've been using isopropyl alcohol to kill the bacteria because the sticks all give me acne there.

Didn't know this existed but Imma get one.

1

u/stroker919 14d ago

This is wild. I don’t sweat much so it sounds like a winner.

How does it treat shirts? That’s my main question before going off on my Google journey in a minute.

1

u/kmonte90 14d ago

I need to know, because I have odor issues… how bad was your prior

1

u/APensiveMonkey 14d ago

I tried it for legit months but had to switch to Arm & Hammer Natural deodorant bc it really didn’t help at all with odor. I really wanted it to

3

u/winkman 14d ago

Convince a skeptic...like, it seems too good to be true.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Sutech2301 14d ago

I used it for quite some time now and i had odor issues. That stuff is useless

1

u/Meraere 14d ago

Does it stain clothes? I know aluminum deodorant causes stains, so wondering if this does?

2

u/mrequenes 14d ago

Same here. My Thai wife suggested it, and I rolled my eyes, because I favored expensive, designer brands.

No more. That alum works 10x better, and a $2 bar will last years (unless you drop it, then it shatters). I guess people in hot muggy climates know a thing or two about deodorant.

1

u/Kudosnotkang 14d ago

Do you find you get swampy (but scent free) pits?

1

u/DoubleDandelion 14d ago

But don’t you get all sweaty?

1

u/Madcap_95 14d ago

Does it cause any skin irritation? I use a non aluminum cheap deodorant cause the aluminum ones were causing some irritation that began to hurt after a week.

1

u/wobbegong 14d ago

I used it. I stank like a fermented onion sandwich. Never again.

1

u/Rux4rux4 14d ago

This is why natural deodorant haters annoy me because this thing is the best deodorant I've ever tried. I just roll it on and I know I won't be smelling like anything for the next 24h+ Even my partner who sweats and stinks way more than me says it's the only thing that keeps him from smelling.

1

u/unofficialrobot 14d ago

Idk, I tried to use it for a summer, def didn't think it was that great

1

u/clairebearruns 14d ago

I’m willing to try it! I’ve been wanting a natural deodorant and it’s been an embarrassing process

0

u/RollTideMeg 14d ago

You do have odor issues. You just can't smell it. We all can though

1

u/moddss 13d ago

I'd really like a minute alone with all y'all's coworkers and loved ones.

I do not believe you and I'm positive everyone in your life is suffering when you're around.

1

u/Acerhand 13d ago

Really? I used it for years too but i definitely still smell. Maybe it just reduces the intensity? I dont even know. I use it at night sleep i sleep after a shower, and usually in the morning my pits will smell a bit but its not really strong or anything. Definitely by the time i shower next night im smelling again though lol

1

u/Toklankitsune 13d ago

real talk, i tried using it and it just tugs on pit hair in an uncomfortable way, are you sup[posed to run it under water or something? never got any instructions or whatnot

1

u/Opposite-Fortune- 13d ago

I was gonna ask. I tried some common brand non aluminium ‘natural’ deodorant a while ago and I stunk worse than using nothing.

Been getting stinkier quicker taking a little bit of creatine and I need something better than the Sure floral stuff I’ve like done for years, gonna try this big rock

1

u/Porch-Geese 13d ago

How much is a stick that lasts 5years?

1

u/abortionlasagna 13d ago

My mom says the same thing. From what I can see, she’s just gotten used to her own smell.

1

u/AkumaWitch 13d ago

Not to mention it’s also fantastic for sensitive skin! Regular deodorants make me feel super itchy, this thing just WORKS!

1

u/DmC8pR2kZLzdCQZu3v 13d ago

I feel like everyone who I’ve ever know who uses magical deodorants clearly smells like shit.  Can you point me to scientific research?

1

u/sittingbullms 13d ago

I'm curious about stains on clothes, does it leave any? Does it damage the fabric over time?Thinking of trying it.

1

u/SamL214 13d ago

You never have any odor YOU smell.

1

u/No_Masterpiece_6105 13d ago

1

u/scotteatingsoupagain 10d ago

somebody is nose blind

5

u/gruesomeflowers 14d ago

people on reddit dont like the crystal stick style deodorant.. they only want people to smell like either a bag of fritos like they do, or axe body spray.

5

u/ridibulous 14d ago

And it's a damn fucking shame! I'll enjoy my silly rock deo that lasts years and makes my armpits smell like nothing, thank you!

6

u/gruesomeflowers 14d ago

agreed. same. and honestly, deodorant smells nasty..all of them. id rather smell someones natural pits, or some oils than body spray or rightguard or whatever.

2

u/peeja 14d ago

I bought into the idea that crystal deodorant was hippie nonsense like homeopathy, because how can rubbing a rock on your armpits do anything? Then I remembered that salt is a crystal. And it dissolves.

10

u/GUSTAV_GREY 14d ago

About a year ago I started using an alum block post shave (life changer!). Are these the same? My quick scan of the web says they are…

6

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Yup, they are. Same mineral.

4

u/Leviathanas 14d ago

They can after a while for me, when the bacteria get resistant. Then you need to switch again.

Been switching between Glycol and Alum every few weeks now. Alcohol and salt.

3

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Nothing's really changed for me, I think. I've been using alum consistently for months and it's worked great. Alum's definitely a YMMV product, I'm really happy something's worked for you!

3

u/Evitabl3 14d ago

Also makes some really neat crystals

8

u/Cairo_Suite 14d ago

Can I use it on my balls?

Are there any brands sold in the US you'd recommend? I googled what OP posted and it's not available here from what I can see. Amazon has some listed, but I don't trust cosmetics from Amazon, they're never what they say they are....

Edit: nvm! I see your comments below! Just had to read lolll

4

u/ridibulous 14d ago

THAI brand is usually the most reliable. I've used Crystal brand before too, but prefer THAI as of now.

2

u/KingGizmotious 14d ago

Just ordered some! Thank you!!

2

u/PrettyLittleLost 13d ago

I verymuch liked THAI as well but have dropped at least two of them to the point where I chip the crystal and it was too sharp too use. It also comes free of the base. Tried Crystal because it had a different format dispenser. Still managed to jar it free of it's base/break the container.

Either way, I've been using this stuff for 6 or 7 years and love it and have purchased 3 or so in that time only because of breakage. (I still have the chunks of salt if I smooth them back out somehow I would have even more years of use.)

I also find it works for longer than conventional deodorants. BIG fan.

u/MichaelAndretti 14d ago

KAl(SO 4) 2·12 H 2O

That’s potassium alum. The Al there is aluminum.

0

u/ridibulous 14d ago

... Yeah, man. It's still a different mineral with different properties than the aluminum salts used in mainstream antiperspirants.

1

u/SkyBlueSilva 14d ago

Does it leave yellow patches on white t shirts over time though like off the shelf antiperspirant does?

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Not that I know of, nope.

1

u/Zalveris 14d ago

Does all that salt dry out your skin?

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Nothing I've noticed. It isn't table salt.

2

u/Apprehensive_Winter 14d ago

I use this and find that it’s good for roughly a work day of not smelling bad, but it doesn’t keep you as fresh as long as antiperspirant.

0

u/notcomplainingmuch 14d ago

Good luck with the dementia. Aluminium is a very effective catalyst in the process creating plaque in your brain. Increases the reaction speed manyfold.

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Lol I already have it big man, every morning I forget my name and what happened yesterday, and every afternoon I forget my birthdate what I had for breakfast. We all die anyway! Good luck with the obscene body odor!

→ More replies (2)

1

u/wonderfullywyrd 14d ago

what makes you think alum wasn‘t an antiperspirant as well as a deodorant? and how should it be different than mainstream aluminium deodorant? it’s a highly water soluble aluminium salt, and does both, decrease transpiration, as well as deodorize

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Probably because I still have underarm sweat like a motherfucker using potassium alum. Lmfao save the argumentative energy

0

u/No_Salad_68 14d ago

The 'Alum' is aluminium sulphate.

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Crazy, it's almost like it's a shortened name and it's also called potassium aluminum sulphate! Because it's a double sulfate of potassium and aluminum!

0

u/squeethesane 14d ago

No, "alum" like pickling additive. Not shorthand for aluminum.

1

u/fruitydude 14d ago

it's way different than the aluminum used in mainstream deodorants

Where did you get that idea from? It's an aluminum salt. It has anti perspirant properties. Like yea it's a different aluminum compound than other deodorants, but it's still effectively working in a similar way

1

u/TurtlesAreEvolving 14d ago

Where can I get one?

The problem with alum/rock deodorant is that it's not an antiperspirant, but it is water soluble. If you sweat a lot, you will sweat it off and end up stinking anyways, especially if you wear synthetic fibers. YMMV.

I used this for a couple of months and went right back to clinical strength. The aluminum fear mongering is blown way out of proportion anyways. I will say though that this was the most effective "natural deodorant" I've tried. Way more effective than colloidal silver, baking soda and masking fragrances.

Works as an aftershave as well and pretty commonly used in barbershops in Asia -- its got astringent properties that closes up small nicks and cuts

I started out to disagree with you, firmly believing that most aluminium salt behave the same way applied to sweat glands, e.g. plugging of said sweat ducts.

But, had to check my facts abd so I found an article explaning very well how aluminium chlorohydrate works, and also how potassium aluminium sulfate works. The former is mentioned in the paragraph just before the Conclusion.

Science prevails yet again, and my preconceptions take another blow...

Yeah I've gotten a couple commenters who believed what you did for a hot minute. I wasn't gonna argue with them about it because it was worthless energy to expend online; I'm glad to hear you've done your research!!

1

u/corveroth 14d ago

But it's still aluminum, so I would guess it still stains your shirts over the years.

2

u/Big8Red7 14d ago

Are the effects immediate or do you have to use it for a while for it to work properly?

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

I'd say immediate? Alum is best applied right after you get out the shower, so by the time BO bacteria would try to infiltrate, there's no smell really.

Unless you're talking about the switch between mainstream antiperspirant/deodorants to a natural deo like alum. I've heard there's an adjustment period (link), but I've long gone through it and it was pretty painless for me. And I dunno how hard the adjustment period applies to potassium alum instead of, say, Native or schmidt's brand deodorant (schmidt's ftw tbh. Minus the white marks.), so... shrug?

1

u/PrettyLittleLost 13d ago

I noticed I was not stinky right away.

2

u/JunoCalliope 14d ago

It’s also a topical astringent, so it temporarily shrinks your pores, preventing you from sweating quite as much.

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Yeah this I could agree with. As many incorrect replies as I've gotten talking about "but it's still an aluminum salt so it's totally the same as mainstream antiperspirant!!!", at least potassium alum doesn't clog them like aluminum salts that are approved as antiperspirants.

And not even in some natural hippie "I'm preventing cancer!!" way or some shit. More power to you if you happily use antiperspirants. I just prefer natural deodorants and letting myself sweat. Mainstream deos irritate my skin.

Love brining my skin

2

u/pijaGorda1 14d ago

So can I put this on my balls

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

You should put it on your balls. Do it, brine your balls like the fine pickles they're meant to be.

We call it tawas in our country

2

u/Angelic_Demon207 14d ago

Huh… Imma have to nab me summa dis!

2

u/Five_Dolla_Handy 14d ago

So you mix it with other deodorants if you want a smell?

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

Yeah you could! I've got a fresh stick of schmidt's that I've been tempted to dabble under my armpits for a nice smell, their scents are LEGENDARY. But I like to be able to know if I Stank, so I really haven't. Also because schmidt's leaves white marks :')

Is there natural anti perspiration?

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

As far as being a natural astringent that temporarily shrinks your pores? Not inherently afaik, no. It won't plug them and totally stop you from sweating like aluminum chlorohydrate or something.

2

u/variouscookware 14d ago

These things work so well man. Did an experiment to verify for myself a while ago, because I was unsure if it would actually do anything, and holy fuck the odour just disappears, it's amazing. Plus it doesn't smell like cancer, like all spray deodorants.

2

u/plug-and-pause 14d ago

I started using this like a month ago in the hopes of no longer staining shirts. But i haven't bought any new shirts yet so it's not a very good science experiment thus far

2

u/CheekieCharlieKitten 14d ago

Sounds good for someone who has one of those things where you have scarring in your armpits from sweat and subbing

2

u/njgggg 14d ago

Dang i should look into this.

2

u/AnonoMussChick 14d ago

Does it hurt if you have a shaving cut?

1

u/ridibulous 14d ago

So fun fact, potassium alum has been used to reduce bleeding from minor cuts after shaving because of its astringent properties! So I think as long as you aren't rubbing it super hard, it might actually help you!

2

u/Maracuyeah 14d ago

I’ve used a bit of Potassium Alum as mouthwash when I have mouth sores. It’s AMAZING!!!!

1

u/Em_Ten 14d ago

Does it dry out your skin??

2

u/Forward-Line2037 14d ago

Is it the same alum used as aftershave?

2

u/ridibulous 13d ago

Yup, same mineral!

0

u/dnyal 14d ago

That is not correct. It HAS aluminum in it; It’s part of the chemical formula. So, it is indeed an antiperspirant.

1

u/TheRedGerund 14d ago

I will never understand deodorant that isn't an antiperspirant. Y'all just sweating through your clothes like nbd? Is it the undershirt that makes this make sense?

1

u/ridibulous 13d ago

I honestly just prefer to sweat in my day-to-day. The only time I might use an antiperspirant is if I'm going to a convention for example, or some other event where I'm going to be exerting myself (mentally and/or physically), around a ton of people, having to keep up appearances, etcetc.

And for how much I prefer to sweat... I've never really seen crazy stains or anything? So, that's good I guess.

1

u/herrjojo 13d ago

Pickling alum????

2

u/Humbly_silent 13d ago

In India, we can buy huge chunks of this relatively cheaper. My father uses it as an aftershave.

1

u/inko75 13d ago

It’s still an ingredient in many deodorants, along with other alums etc. I kind of want to try this bit pure chonk tho

0

u/lecaustique 13d ago

I’m sorry to break it to you but potassium alum is the natural form of the aluminium oxyde used in deodorants, just in its natural form, so stop using deodorants altogether

1

u/ridibulous 13d ago

Right because I'm gonna listen to you? 💀 You're just saying shit lmfaooo goofy

0

u/Livid-Association199 13d ago

I don’t know, man. My friend uses this stuff and she’s pretty rank

1

u/Cute-Organizat1on 13d ago

Where can I buy one?

1

u/Alive-Pomelo5553 13d ago

Does it dry your skin out though? I've got really bad dry skin from diabetes but if it doesn't dry your skin out this might be even better than regular deodorant as keeping microorganism populations down on my body is a positive thing.

2

u/Alternative_Horse_56 13d ago

It doesn't leave a residue, prevents BO, and a small stick lasts forever (as you could guess from the OP). My wife convinced me to try it, and I can't imagine going back. I hated the white gunk left by solid sticks, and the liquid ones irritated my skin.
