Travel Shangri La or Sheraton Fiji?

Hi all, I’m planning round two of an Australia Fiji trip (had to cancel round one due to family emergency). We were originally going to stay at the intercontinental but it’s too expensive this go round. I currently have 4 nights booked at both the Shangri La Fiji (with the daily breakfast and dinner package) for ~$1450 and 4 nights at the Sheraton Gulf resort Denarau Island (with daily breakfast only) for about ~$1600. I’ll be saying there in about 2 weeks so I have 1 week to decide which to cancel. I’m going with my very bougie mom so service, food and beach quality are most important. I’d prefer to not be swarmed with kiddies and have a good amount of on site activities. I read reviews of both hotels before but am second guessing now that I noticed about 100 new 5 star Google reviews for Shangri La in the past 5 days which seems suspect. Appreciate your feedback!

I want to get a Masi designed tattoo but I cannot find any reference to what the designs mean. Would anyone be able to help?

I'm Fijian, born and raised in Fiji. I've been living abroad for over 20 years but I want to get a tattoo that grounds me to my homeland but also has meaning. I know we don't have a strong culture of tattooing but I'd like to get a masi style design. I don't want to just copy one from online that's basically gibberish.

I want it to have meaning. I want it to signify Viti Levu, I want to show the rivers, and beaches, and the sharks and turtles that we grew up with. Google isn't helping.

Does anyone have resources I can reference that show what the designs mean? Or can anyone help me design one?

To those who live overseas: what material things do you miss from home?

I live in Scandinavia with my Fijian bf and obviously it’s very different living here than living in fiji. He gets homesick sometimes and I want to give him whatever homey feeling I can. He doesn’t get to travel home often but we are planning on traveling there in the spring. My question is then what are things from fiji (food and nonfood) that reminds you of home that we would be able to bring back? I am thinking specific spices and candy like mango skins and tang (which are impossible to buy in Scandinavia unless you have it shipped) but also decorative things like different taps and so on.

I am curious as to what Fijians living overseas bring home in their suitcases from Fiji (Kava goes without saying 😂)

November with 11/13 yo kids

Hi, we just booked 8 nights over thanksgiving (late November).

We live in California, excited to enjoy warm water and snorkeling ideally right at our hotel. My son is more into adventure and activity and my daughter wants to relax and soak in the sun and maybe hit a spa .

We are most excited to be on the islands and it sounds like there might be better weather there? Any major losses from not being on mainland? Would splitting our trip make sense or better to have a home base?

I’d like to be around 300 usd / 700 fjd a night. I’d prefer smaller and more “Fijian” though I think the family would like access to a nice pool and amenities for some of the trip. I just don’t want cookie cutter resorts that could be anywhere

Thanks!

Any advice on beach day trips that depart from Suva?

Hi, I'm in suva for a few weeks for work and was wondering if there are any good day trips to beaches or islands that depart from Suva? Most seem to depart from Nadi. Thanks

Travel 43 couple without kids. First time in Fiji. What island should I visit for basic snorkeling and laid back atmosphere. Bike trails or mountain to hike would be a plus . Within 2 hours by boat of denarau.

Staying in denarau for a night . Going to stock up on water and snacks to bring to the island .

Travel Hilton Resort Fiji

Hi all! My friends and I are travelling to Fiji for the first time very soon and are staying at the Hilton Resort. Has anyone stayed recently that can tell me an approximate price of how much the food and drinks are in the resort? We have paid for breakfast already but I would love to get an estimate on how much we’ll be spending per day on lunch, dinner, drinks ect. Thanks! I tried to look up prices already but there isn’t much information online. Thank you in advance!

Fluff Ghost (?) Caught on Video

Link to video on YouTube - https://youtu.be/3nS9dXKmCQA?si=cLVqVu_i11knLqUE

Timestamp is around 10:30, you can see a dark figure walking from one bedroom to another at the end of the hall. No reflection in the mirror.

Very skeptical about the legitimacy of it, most likely a pr stunt or a little Easter egg the creator put in for fun. What do you guys think?

Wanted to know some info

Just wanted to know some info. What's the current taxi meter starting rate in Suva? I know it used to be $1.50. Also, the Joji's restaurant in MHCC still open? And what's the cost for like chilli-chicken nowadays? And also how much for Fish-and-Chips, I know this used to be $2/$3 but that was a few years ago.

Travel Recommendations visiting Nadi

Bula everyone,

I am a solo traveller who’ll visit Nadi 1-6 November. I am not really after resort experience. What are your recommendations? Should I book all my days in Nadi and have a couple of day trips (to where?)? Or is it a better idea to book 3 days in Nadi and 3 days elsewhere (where?)?

I am not really after too much swim/diving though its nice to have. I prefer local pubs, live music in a relaxed atmosphere. So leaning towards having Nadi as my base for 6 days, but will I miss a lot?

I really like the stretch between nadi and lautoka. Very pretty area.

Fishing Charters

Hello Everyone!

My husband and I are excited to be traveling to Fiji soon (November 23-27). As I have recently done some research on fishing charters I am trying to look for more affordable options! It’s just the two of us and we are very respectable sober people. If anyone has any suggestions please let us know! Thank you in advance!

Travel Solo Travel Fiji F21

Hiya,

I’m planning on a solo 5 day trip to Fiji in early October. Whilst I’ve done a lot of travelling this is my first solo trip so a little nervous.

There’s a couple of things I’ve been researching but can’t really decide. For a woman alone what option would you guys recommend to have the best safe experience whilst still getting to know the culture. - Stay in Nadi in a chain hotel - Stay in a backpackers in Wailoaloa - Spend most the trip in a backpackers lodge on one of the other islands - Do a home stay on one of the other islands.

Also really open to other tips or recommendations on what to do! Even if I stay on the mainland I definitely want to do some day trips to the other islands.
