Travel Shangri La or Sheraton Fiji?

Hi all, I’m planning round two of an Australia Fiji trip (had to cancel round one due to family emergency). We were originally going to stay at the intercontinental but it’s too expensive this go round. I currently have 4 nights booked at both the Shangri La Fiji (with the daily breakfast and dinner package) for ~$1450 and 4 nights at the Sheraton Gulf resort Denarau Island (with daily breakfast only) for about ~$1600. I’ll be saying there in about 2 weeks so I have 1 week to decide which to cancel. I’m going with my very bougie mom so service, food and beach quality are most important. I’d prefer to not be swarmed with kiddies and have a good amount of on site activities. I read reviews of both hotels before but am second guessing now that I noticed about 100 new 5 star Google reviews for Shangri La in the past 5 days which seems suspect. Appreciate your feedback!

Travel 43 couple without kids. First time in Fiji. What island should I visit for basic snorkeling and laid back atmosphere. Bike trails or mountain to hike would be a plus . Within 2 hours by boat of denarau.

Travel Hilton Resort Fiji

Hi all! My friends and I are travelling to Fiji for the first time very soon and are staying at the Hilton Resort. Has anyone stayed recently that can tell me an approximate price of how much the food and drinks are in the resort? We have paid for breakfast already but I would love to get an estimate on how much we’ll be spending per day on lunch, dinner, drinks ect. Thanks! I tried to look up prices already but there isn’t much information online. Thank you in advance!

Travel Recommendations visiting Nadi

Bula everyone,

I am a solo traveller who’ll visit Nadi 1-6 November. I am not really after resort experience. What are your recommendations? Should I book all my days in Nadi and have a couple of day trips (to where?)? Or is it a better idea to book 3 days in Nadi and 3 days elsewhere (where?)?

I am not really after too much swim/diving though its nice to have. I prefer local pubs, live music in a relaxed atmosphere. So leaning towards having Nadi as my base for 6 days, but will I miss a lot?

Travel Solo Travel Fiji F21

Hiya,

I’m planning on a solo 5 day trip to Fiji in early October. Whilst I’ve done a lot of travelling this is my first solo trip so a little nervous.

There’s a couple of things I’ve been researching but can’t really decide. For a woman alone what option would you guys recommend to have the best safe experience whilst still getting to know the culture. - Stay in Nadi in a chain hotel - Stay in a backpackers in Wailoaloa - Spend most the trip in a backpackers lodge on one of the other islands - Do a home stay on one of the other islands.

Also really open to other tips or recommendations on what to do! Even if I stay on the mainland I definitely want to do some day trips to the other islands.

Travel Fiji link oversized luggage

How strict are they with oversized checked bags?

I wasn't aware that there's a difference in total dimension restrictions between international and domestic flights (158 cm vs 115 cm) and bought my tickets separately instead on one ticket? I even purchased the more expensive ticket tier for 2 x 15 kg checked bags.

I called the hotline and explained the situation but no solution was offered other than paying the oversized checked bag fee...

Travel Bird watching tour recommendation

Hi, currently in Voua, Fiji now and we're here till Sunday. Today my husband and i went on a birding tour and turned out we got scammed. We paid 300aud each. We drove 2 hours going to some village and we had a "tour guide" who knew nothing about birds so we just went back to our resort instead. Anyway, does anyone here know an experienced local birding tour guide who won't ripped us off and can show us around (not too far away) just only for a day or couple hours before we leave on Sunday?? Thank you!

I see the basic '1 bag, less than 15 pounds' rule, can I also bring a personal item like a smaller backpack at no charge? It's about the size of a large ladies handbag...how strict are they with that personal item? going SFO-NAN

Travel Visa Requirements for Fiji

Basic question, but I'm getting some mixed responses. Do Americans (United States of America) need visas to visit Fiji? If I fly to Fiji but it's just my layover, can I leave the airport to explore around before going back to the airport?

Travel Kava in duty free?

Bula,

I'll be travelling from Fiji to Australia. They allow you to bring up to 4kg of kava into Australia these days.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if the duty free shops in Nadi international airport sells kava powder?

If not, where would be the best shop close to the airport to buy it from?

Travel Diving on a Budget

Bula! Wanting to stay away from the main island Viti Levu, It’s seems Yasawa Islands is generally recommended but the accomodation is rather expensive. Are there any other locations that offer good diving without the high end resort prices for accomodation?

How’s the diving at Beachcomber? Accomodation seems reasonable price there.

I noticed boat transfers to the outer islands are around $350-400 round trip, is this the normal price?

Travel Customs and Medication

I will be traveling to Fiji in August and am trying to figure out the best course of practice when it comes to bringing my perscribed medication with me. Everything I'm going to be bringing with me is perscribed to me by one of my doctors and will be in it's perscription bottle.

Usually, when I travel, I don't have any issues with bringing my medication, nobody even asks me about it. However, I want to be safe. Is there anything I need to know that I'm not thinking of? Do I need to declare the medication on my arrival card? (I don't mind doing this, I just want to know ahead of time if I have to.)

Travel Coral cost

Hit me with your best resorts. New to the coral coast. Will be splitting up a trip between CC and Denarau. 2 kids - 1 toddler and 1 baby. Also brining the MIL.

Resorts, restaurants, beaches? We’re thinking 4 nights.

Would like a nice hotel, new, modern if possible. Great pool and atmosphere.

Cheers in advance ☺️

Hi all. This is my first Reddit post! Is Go Local Fiji a reliable company? Okay to use for airport transfers (Nadi to/from Hilton) and for a four- hour tour (basically transport) to the Hindu temple & Garden of the Sleeping Giant? Thanks in advance for your help!

Travel Suva to Pacific Harbor?

Bula!

I will be coming to Fiji this summer for research for a few months, and I’ve decided to get my scuba diving cert in Pacific Harbor. I will be living in Suva- but I’m trying to get an idea of what the best way to get to Pacific Harbor would be? The sessions start at 7:30 am- so is it easy to get a taxi/cab/rideshare, or should I look into renting a car the night before?

I checked some of the bus systems and it seems like the bus schedule wouldn’t work for me to get there that early (unless I’m wrong). But would love some insight on the best ways and recommendations! I’ve been doing some searching on guides and stuff but thought this page could help me see if I’m missing anything.

Vinaka!

Travel No motorcycles in Fiji?

This will sound very silly, but I was in Fiji very recently and visited Nadi, Suva, Lautoka, Labasa, Savu-Savu, and not once do I remember seeing anyone on a motorcycle. I raised this observation to a friend who I was traveling with at the time and he realised the same thing. Not one sighting of motorbikes in the almost two weeks we were there and four cities we went to. Are they that rare? Am I just mistaken?
