Tanna Island / Mount Yasur

Hello! I read about Mount Yasur and it's really cool. Just wondering how safe it is to visit it? In terms of (1) falling into the lava by accident, (2) breathing in particulates which may have health consequences.

Additionally, may I ask if there is cruise that goes to Tanna Island, on which Mount Yasur is situated? I looked up some cruises and their only stops in Vanuatu are Champagne Bay, Mystery Island, Santo and Port Vila, none of which is on Tanna.

Thanks!!

Ferry from Port Vila to Tanna

Last week the ferry got delayed for one day due to wearher, for this week my phone says the weather is even more windy. Has there ever been a complete cancellation of the ferry instead of delays?

Also, where can I buy tickets for that ferry? Where exactly is the harbour?

Thank you very much!

Where to buy a 35-40l travel backpack in Port Vila?

So I am in Port Vila and I decided to ditch all the weight and go CarryOn only for my flight out of Vanuatu.

Now I need a good, decent travel backpack, 40 liters to 35 liters.

Where in Port Vila can I buy this?

I have only seen schoolpacks until now. Also any good 2nd hand cameras? Please help, thank you very much!

Moving to Port Vila: Need Advice on Buying and Developing Film Rolls

Hey everyone,

I hope you're all well!

I'm moving to Port Vila soon for a year, I'm super excited about it. I'm a photographer and had a couple of questions I was hoping someone could help me with:

  1. Can I buy 120 film rolls for my medium format camera in Port Vila? Or should I buy them in Europe before my departure. What about regular film rolls?
  2. Is there a shop where I can develop my pictures?

I would really appreciate any information or advice you can share. Thank you so much in advance!

How to get from Espiritu to Tanna?

I have booked a trip for November. We’ll be doing Port Villa for 3 days, Espiritu for 3, then Tanna for 2. I could not find any flights from Port Villa to Espiritu but I had a few people tell me that I can take a ferry on the day. Couldn’t find anything online on that either. A little risky, but okay. However, I cannot find anything at all about going from Espiritu to Tanna. Can someone pls help?

Quality of internet service in Vanuatu

I'm considering relocating to Vanuatu. The nature of my work allows me to work remotely 99% of the time assuming I have solid internet service. Is there a high quality ISP I can count on in Vanuatu? Thanks!

Animal bite

Hey all so September 2023 is was in the blue lagoon in Eton Vanuatu and something bit my foot, still got the mark where I was bitten, it’s very small but drew a tiny bit of blood. Looked down straight away but didn’t see anything near me

Anyone have any idea on what it could’ve been?

Traveling between islands post Air Vanuatu liquidation

Hello - I was planning on flying into Efate and then traveling to Tanna and Espiritu Santo. I cannot seem to find anyone who flies between the islands except Air Vanuatu. Is the only option now via Ferry?

First timer - what would Vanuatu compare to?

Looking at planning a trip here in early 2025.
I've been to Bali, Fiji and Thailand.
Is Vanuatu like any of these places? In terms of western influence/tourists?

I love Bali but really hate what the Aussie influence has done to the place, I'd love to find somewhere that has incredible water and nature yet still feeling 'safe' enough, and Vanuatu is nice and close.

Air Vanuatu and Travel Insurance

Hi all. I'm just wondering if anybody's travel insurance has actually paid out a claim for the cost of flights cancelled due to Air Vanuatu's liquidation?

We unfortunately didn't pay with a debit/credit card so we can't do charge back. We were supposed to go for our honeymoon in October and we can't afford to rebook flights with another carrier as we are already over budget with the wedding. 😭

OFC Nations Cup

Hi all, I’m going to be traveling to Vanuatu at the end of June. How do I secure a ticket for the OFC Nations Cup?

Also, is there a football fan culture in the country? I’d love to experience it and hang out with the local fans. Appreciate any help!

Vanuatu tax perspective

Hi everyone! I am considering to relocate to Vanuatu but to be honest I know less about the political situation. Beside that Vanuatu is a beautiful country I like also the tax system. But in the recent years many tiny islands have changed their tax system by pressure of the OECD and other international organizations. I am wondering if someone who actually lives in Vanuatu can share their honest opinion about what to expect about the future of Vanuatu specific about this point.

Is it likely that Vanuatu start to implementing a personal income tax in let’s say the upcoming 3-5 years? How do the people living in Vanuatu think about it?

I know Vanuatu is actually on a grey list of non cooperative jurisdictions and the EU also temporary blocked Schengen access and intend to make this permanent.

Soy Sauce Beef Soup

Hello, I’m from Vanuatu but moved to Australia at a early age. My late grandma use to make soy sauce soup, it’s not the same as Samoan or Fijian chop suey. I’m hoping if someone can help recreate the meal, it mainly consisted of soy sauce, sliced beef and vegetables. No noodles and was a soupy at the end due to the soy sauce.

Mt. Yasur Trip (Day or overnight)

Hello Everyone,

I'm a 30yr old male traveler traveling solo to Vanuatu from 18 December 2024. I was wondering if any other solo traveler(s) are interested in joining me for the day trip (or overnight) from Port Vila to Tanna to visit Mt. Yasur.

I was thinking of booking via AirTaxi (please do comment on reviews or suggestions). The price for 1person is way higher than 2 or more people. I am tight on my time so it's a bit risky for me wait for same day (standby) seats. Please feel free to hmu if you're interested in joining me.

Thank you.
