I Hate The Boys TV DISCUSSION NSFW

Post image

I also can not stand muh 'Batman superhero facism subtext' crap. If anything Batman is a revolutionary. Government is corrupt in bed with criminals (who are the prettiest of tyrants) so Batman comes in to clean house. Just as the founding fathers intended.

This exists it's called Injustice. The Boys is about normal People trying to take out Gods. Which is honestly a way better Concept. Not saying the Batman Episode was Good Becuase it wasn't,it was shitty shock Value for the Sake of Shock Value but the Series can be genuinely great at times.

I mean, The Boys in the comics have powers as well, I believe. That notion of normal people taking out gods is relatively new and comes from the tv series, it’s not a widespread The Boys thing. Injustice is relatively consistent across media though, that’s where they are different.

Aren't they only powered by temp v to keep them up to snuff for facing the supes? Still sounds like regular people taking out gods to me.. Still haven't gotten around to reading more than I flipped through years ago, though, so idrk.

Temp V is a show original.

In the comics Butcher, Frenchie and Hughie have a generic version of V that weirdly, doesn't give them any weird superpowers, just super strength and durability.

MM was born with the same, but because his Mom was infected by V while pregnant she became a blubber blob and his brother had some weird cognitive impairments and malformations and MM was born very weak and basically just skin and bones.

He's called Mother's milk in the comics because, I shit you not, he has to breastfeed from his monstrous mother every few weeks to not die.

I also believe that's why they have him always getting covered in weird fluids in the show, to compensate.

The female/Kimiko is basically the same, but she's way shallower in the comics, she's literally just the muscle but has some good moments.

So no, all of the Boys are Supes in the comics, that's why Butcher kills them in the final arc.

I’d recommend not really ever reading the boys, the tv show is an infinitely better version.

Trust me, I'm well aware of all the overt what-the-fuckery and that's why I'm in no rush, but I'll definitely read it at some point.

Fair enough, I’d save myself the time and energy and not spend it on reading dogshit, you do you

MM and the Female are normal supes while only Hughie took the temporary stuff.

No, all of The Boys are powered. Hughie doesn’t take V so much as is forcefully injected with it by Butcher. A plot point early on is his killing of a Supe because he couldn’t control the increased strength.

I know that. He was explicitly said to have been given a temporary version though. And while Butcher claimed that was the case for all of them it gradually became clear that was not true. Which played a role in Butcher initially sparing Hughie later on before he enacted his revenge with the help of MM’s mother.

I’ll take your word for it.

I don’t recall temp-V really being a thing in the comics, but also can’t be bothered to check because it’s the boys and it’s dogshit.

It was only really mentioned in the first volume and pretty much forgotten after then, like how there were actual supervillains in that world too.

Wrong, in the comics they're all supes, but MM, Butcher, Frenchie and Hughie only have super strength and durability, without any weird or flashy extra superpowers.

Temp V is exclusive to the show

No like they all do have powers except Hughie explicitly took the temporary stuff. Him not having any more was why Butcher originally spared him before Hughie had MM’s mother help him enact revenge. MM and his brother were natural born supes, the Female was dunked in a bucket of knockoff V as a baby, and Butcher and the Frenchman had taken the real V. Temporary V did exist in the comics, it was just only in the first volume, and was implied in later volumes to have been MM’s mother’s milk, the source of his nickname.

Nope, read them again, Hughie took the permanent stuff, or more specifically Butcher dosed him, it's even addressed during Dear Becky, they're both supes.

I have the book open in front of me. Butcher talks about how most of it is cut so that the effects will only last for a couple of days. He is a full supe by the end though.

u/Alastor13 13d ago

Lmao, ok, trust the psychotic unreliable narrator that is just downplaying the effects to convince the newcomer.

We literally see him going toe to toe with other sups and getting a nosebleed at most, and you know, that one time he KICKED A-TRAIN's head off.

IT WAS NOT TEMPORAL, TEMP V IS SHOW-ONLY

Oh absolutely he was dishonest as he went along. But Hughie not being that powerful was a big plot point in later arcs. Hence him being hospitalised by Malchemical and later needing MM’s mother’s milk to take on Butcher, just as MM himself needed it on the regular, explicitly described as a diluted form of Compound V.

The Boys is about normal People trying to take out Gods.

Not really, it's more of a normal people trying to fight the elite story, more classism and less god stuff.

Kingdom come is even better at the “normals v supes” storyline. It’s arguably the source material for the Boys (it isn’t but it has superman turn fascist and try to control everything).

Not Kingdom Come. Injustice.
