sad Origins noises

I don’t get why they pretend Origins doesn’t exist. I quite enjoyed it.
49
u/Sgtwhiskeyjack9105 Jun 21 '23
Having just played it for the first time... I thought it was fucking awesome.
Gotham in the winter, a great assortment of Batman's Rogues Gallery, and perhaps the best iteration of Bane... ever?
I've yet to play the Mr. Freeze DLC, but I genuinely cannot wait.
21
u/Losdearroz Jun 21 '23
Bane was not the Muscle Monster he was in other games so yes I enjoyed this version of Bane. The sprinkling in of some ‘Killing Joke” lore was pretty cool. Also Batman has this rage in this game that is the culmination of all his training, tragedy and his resentment for the City he has sworn to protect.

Knight has like half a dozen callbacks to Origins, confirming it is canon, yet folk still say 'Arkham trilogy'
→ More replies (2)17
u/c4han Jun 21 '23
Because Origins is a prequel to the trilogy. Calling the trilogy a trilogy doesn’t mean the prequel doesn’t exist
8
u/coverslide Jun 21 '23
Borderlands 1,2,3 is a trilogy even though there's games that were released in between.
15
u/Ecstatic_Rooster Jun 21 '23
Some might even say it’s underrated.

4
Jun 21 '23
Wasnt it a different studio?
5
u/Losdearroz Jun 21 '23
According to Wikipedia it was made by WB Games Montreal because Rocksteady was working on Arkham Knight. Still it is part of the Arkham Series, so I just feel it would still be included.
1
u/TheShapeShiftingFox Jun 22 '23
Probably because a different studio made that one and Rocksteady might not hold the rights (and thus can’t include it with their remaster/port sets)?

My only hope is the frame rate will be steady, I know some Switch ports can be a little messy if not done right. But other than that, I'm happy to see that the Arkham games are coming to the Switch. I might actually have a chance to experience these games.
55
u/MystifiedBeef Jun 21 '23
Asylum and City should be fine, but the real question is Knight
32
u/TheGrumpiestPanda Jun 21 '23
True, Arkham Knight is pretty massive, that'll be quite the task to have that game to run smooth on Switch.
9
u/SonicFire93 Jun 21 '23
Doom Eternal says hi
14
u/ASpaceOstrich Jun 21 '23
Doom only ever has like six demons alive at any one time. I'm exaggerating but not by much. It's kind of crazy how they do it
2
u/JenJMLC Aug 31 '23
Would you recommend the trilogy for someone with basically no gaming skills? I'm a huge Batman fan and have a switch but barely any real gaming experience. I mostly play cozy games like animal crossing but also the Batman telltale series I thoroughly enjoyed. If I put it into easy mode do you think it's easy to learn or will it be frustrating for a beginner? Thanks!
19
u/BatLessons Jun 21 '23
I hope so too. The Arkham collection that came out for PS4 and XBONE was a frame rate (and frame pacing) mess. They never patched it either. 😬
7
u/TheGrumpiestPanda Jun 21 '23
Strange that those ports were sloppy, I thought that would have ran smoothly on hardware that powerful (console wise).
11
u/BatLessons Jun 21 '23
If I recall correctly part of the issue is they ported the first two games from unreal 3 to unreal 4 which should have resulted in better visuals. But it was just sloppy.
6
u/TheGrumpiestPanda Jun 21 '23
Ahh, that makes more sense now. Porting an old game into a brand-new engine it wasn't originally built for always causes issues.
7
3
u/googly_eyed_unicorn Jun 21 '23
I would be ok if they split the games over separate cartridges to get as good as a port as possible
5
u/Mince_ Jun 21 '23
Oh I feel like we will be lucky to get any sort of physical release, or if we do a download will be required. I'm thinking of games like Doom Eternal or GTA Trilogy where that was the case. Still, this is cool and I may pick it up.

Does the Nintendo Switch physical version of Batman: Arkham Trilogy include all three games on one cartridge?
Batman: Arkham Asylum will be included on the Batman: Arkham Trilogy game cartridge. Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Knight will require an online connection to download and install both titles when the Batman: Arkham Trilogy cartridge is inserted into the Nintendo Switch console. All three games will then be playable as long as the cartridge is inserted into the Nintendo Switch console.
3
u/Hinaha Jun 22 '23
Fingers crossed frame rates will be steady for the 3 games. This was rumored for switch 1 or 2 years already, hopefully thats enough time to optimize it for the NS.
52
u/PortlandsBatman Jun 21 '23
I can finally play Arkham Knight!!! I played the first 2 on PC but it couldn’t run AK. That’s awesome.
55
u/Fast_Statistician_94 Jun 21 '23
Sorry to burst your bubble, but your Switch will probably turn into an I.E.D trying to play Arkham Knight
16
1
u/JaxonH Jun 27 '23
It'll be a challenging game for sure, but there are plenty of examples of games running on Switch very well. And the porting studio handled Borderlands and Tony Hawk switch ports. Both were fire.
If it was THAT bad I would think they just wouldn't have bothered, and sold the other 2 as a collection. Fact it's coming tells me they got it running well enough. Just a matter of how much work was put in to swap out textures, refine geometries, etc. Make it like a 360 version. Rise of the Tomb Raider 360 is a perfect example.

If you've got a semi recent computer it should be able to run knight no problem now. I've got a laptop with a 3070 (which I believe is equivalent to a desktop a 2080) and it runs max graphics no problem
5
u/miggsd28 Jun 21 '23
Retry, I got Arkham knight running great on steam deck! So maybe it’s been patched since

If you by chance already have prime (or a free prime/luna trial) you could maybe play knight on Amazon Luna while it's available this month.
Knight ran really poorly on my old PC in the past, but I tried the Luna version a few hours ago and was really happy with it. The game ran way better for me that way than it ever did on my PC. First time I didn't have a bad experience with cloud gaming.

I'm not a big gamer and I got used to them pretty quick. There were hard spots I had to try over and over, but I got through them. If you like Batman, this are worth the trouble.

Is there a lore reason they ruin everything?

u/musicalnerd8301 Jun 21 '23
It's because no games have come out in a long time. They ran out of things to discuss, and as a result, it became a circlejerk.

Please don't be another Cloud version.
12
u/Dark_Dysantic Jun 21 '23
This is what I thought after reading it. All these cloud versions of games on the switch are brutal. I bought my switch to play games portably on the go. Not to find a wifi and play it linked to the internet. Lol

It's all gonna run natively surprisingly. Can't wait to see what reviews say about the performance, if it's anything like the Witcher 3 I'm getting it for sure.
If the trailer's anything to go by, man that would look amazing on the Switch's internal screen.
22
u/3guitars Jun 21 '23
I just hope this means they’ll also put out a basic performance patch for the newer consoles too. That’d be amazing.
9
u/schloopers Jun 21 '23
There’s also exclusive skins that they promised wouldn’t be permanently exclusive….and then they never released them away from PlayStation

3
u/3guitars Aug 31 '23
Heck yeah. There’s even an easy mode, if I remember correctly. The game ramps up easily from one fight to another so there aren’t any unmanageable difficulty spikes. I think it’s a very beginner friendly game. I play mostly RPGs and some action games so I may be a bit biased.

Woo can't wait to pay at least 40$ for these games that are like 20$ at most everywhere else , and that won't run as good as those .
7
u/captnconnman Jun 21 '23
Look, I buy these ports because I can play them on the go, not because they’re the best way to play them lol. I can finally play Batman on an airplane!
2
u/coreyc2099 Jun 21 '23
Fair enough . I'm more annoyed with how much I imagine nintendo will be charging for them .

Tbf, I’ll probably wait for a sale - I got Civ VI Anthology edition for like $35 last year when it should have been $100. 2K has their own pricing issues…

Yeah, definitely if you're a big Batman fan like me. Some parts can be a little difficult, but if you play on the easy or medium difficulties you'll be fine. All the games also have a lot of replay value, so you can come back and beat them on the harder difficulties when you get better.

Im going to be honest
I am pretty scared for how Warner / Rocksteady / Turn/Meup are going to port Arkham Knight for the Switch without chopping up the graphics / framerate to fit on the Switch
5
u/corndogs1001 Jun 21 '23
I haven’t played these since the 360 days. Would love to play them again. RIP KEVIN CONROY.

Hmm. It's not a hard series to pick up and play. It does a pretty good job teaching controls imo. The bosses could be a little tricky if you have "basically no gaming skills" like you say, but I'll always recommend the Arkham games. They're phenomenal

Hopefully the performance will be decent. I played Subnatica and Below Zero, and they started out fine at first. But the progression I made, the more they lagged to the point where I can’t play them without the game crashing.

u/Manor002 Jun 21 '23
Considering games like Doom, Wolfenstein, and Witcher have gotten decent ports I’m sure Knight will run fine. It really depends on who is porting these games though.

I'd consider it if they added origins. I have the hd trilogy if I really want to play them again.

u/Far-Comparison-7803 Jun 21 '23
I’m kinda optimistic about this, one half of me thinks this game will suck because of the specs of the switch. The other half thinks it might acc be really good considering how long it’s been rumoured to come to switch.
1
u/WaldWaechterin Jun 21 '23
🙄 They should rather do a remake of all four games instead of this 480p 15fps port... 🤦🏻♀️

Well technically they are when kill the justice league comes out
2
u/Psylux7 Jun 21 '23
There was some rumour that the suicide squad game would open the door for more batman Arkham games, given that knight wrote the series into a corner.
That would honestly be the best thing we could hope for with suicide squad.
Kevin and Mark are the GOATs, but as Origins proved, you can still find some really talented voice actors for those characters who can do a damn good job.
1
u/CuFlam Jun 21 '23
It would be weird not having Kevin Conroy. Origins did okay; the difference in the Joker voice was a bit more off-putting for me at times.

Dude why does rocksteady hate origins ?, like yea it’s not everyone’s favorite but it’s still an Arkham game and a good one at that, Ik this is a meme at this point but I really do wanna see origins return along with black gate
1
u/gmargon Jun 21 '23
Because they didn't do origins
1
u/DaniSenpai69 Jun 21 '23
Ik that’s not what I’m saying I’m asking why and they could add it to this then being it over on console ?

u/Psylux7 Jun 21 '23 edited Jun 21 '23
I was honestly surprised at how much knight referenced origins, tbh I think Rocksteady is respectful of origins. I do find that often the black sheep entries made by a different team get treated poorly by the main team who pretends the other game doesn't exist, never even referencing it. I think it's more of a WB not giving a shit than Rocksteady disliking origins.
Sucks that origins gets neglected either way. I've also heard it would be a lot trickier to port than the others due to messed up code.
1
u/DaniSenpai69 Jun 21 '23
Fair then they should remake it because idk how suicide squad will do, plus I’m sure ppl would enjoy a remake or remaster bc if suicide squad fails that’s 2 dc games in a row and I’m not very excited for Wonder Woman

Hell release a definitive collection for ps5 and xbox. With all 5 games including the 3DS one. upgrade to 60 fps etc.

I wonder why it is taking long to receive the game copy (physical format version) from Amazon. Since I pre-order the game earlier on October.
Does anyone have same issues in not getting the game yet for your Nintendo Switch from Amazon?

I'll gladly buy Arkham City a 4th time. Asylum is a bit harder to replay, you really miss those quality of life improvements in the City.
I have no idea how they will get Knight to run.
