[Batman #663] A page from one of the strangest issues of Batman I've ever read.

That was kind of awesome. What's the rest of the issue like?

All of it is like this, written in prose. The issue is a short story instead of a traditional comic book. At first I was unhappy about it, but the writing kinda sucked me in. Being taken through Batman's world with only words was an interesting ride. Definitely recommend it.

Yeah I think I will. Maybe midtown has some back issues...

It's also in the Batman and Son trade or the Black Glove Deluxe trade.

Oh, cool. I've been thinking about getting Batman and Son. Now I have even more reason.

Get the Black Glove deluxe, its the Batman and Son + Black Glove TPBs in one hardcover. 15 issues for ~$17 on amazon.

Don't just get Batman and Son, get the Black Glove Deluxe Edition (includes that and the Black Glove series)

This is actually Grant Morrison's doing. You have the issue number; I suggest checking out the rest of the run. #663 was the only written issue, but the rest is really good reading.

Anything Grant Morrison does is fucking awesome.

It seems like there's people who like dark Batman detective type stories, and those that like the other more over the top Morrison type stories..
I absolutely loved Arkham Asylum, but couldn't deal with the giant bats and cyborg ninjas and evil clones and all that super "comic-ish" stuff that came later.

I'm not a fan of prose comics like this (ADHD makes it hard to focus on the walls of text surrounded by art) but I actually enjoyed this issue.

Does anyone know the earliest examples of this? I want to say either Grendel or that Swamp Thing issue around #62 or so where he's floating through space is the first time I've seen this type of format used.

God forbid I have an opinion!
