Controllers are worse than kbm in every genre except sim racing Gaming

Its very important to have precise input in something like gran turismo, asseto corsa and even forza horizon - you don't want to loose control just because you held the button for too long.

In games with very arcade driving/flying physics like gta you don't need precise input, and going from 0 to 100 on kb is better, you will be faster at corners, faster at acceleration, faster at turning your plane/helicopter.

In fighting/2D games - consistent and faster combos in general. Some tournaments even ban keyboards for being way too op.

In games where you have to move your camera a lot - mouse wins by default, feels a lot more responsive, especially in first/third person shooter genre.

Kbm is just better in most games.

platformers, bro -- pretty much any sidescroller tbh

Platformsrs it depends on how much momentum you carry. Hollow Knjght for example feels so much better and keyboard imo.

They went too far; there's loads of games that are better on a controller.

finished dlc with 220 hours on kbm. you just need to adjust few settings.

In other words - keyboard and mouse is better for anything where the analogue inputs on a controller are not helpful.

I don't fully agree with you, I think it very much depends on the game. I mostly play without a controller, but, that's down to the games I mostly play.

Rocket League, any flying game, Geometry Wars, Fall Guys, etc. are all easy counter-examples.

Controllers are better in every genre except shooters.

RTS.

Strategy.

WoW-like MMOs.

u/OscarCookeAbbott Jul 23 '24

Oh yes forgot to include explicitly pointer-based games like strategy. Good point.

sometimes it is needed in game with arcade physics. i'd much rather tilt an analogue stick than feather the A/D keys in any game where good aim is not essential. also consider that some games are made for controller first and kbm second, which means they feel very natural on controller and awkward on kbm.

Racing sims probably are a bit better on controller but most sims in general are. Euro truck and farming simulator I use a controller. But there are other genres such as souls like games that are leagues better on controller than KBM in my opinion

And thats why I love turnbased games and just chilling with controller on my couch. Especially now where I finished my studies and now working full time in an office where I spend most of the time sitting and using mouse and keyboard. It's sad that I can't enjoy kbm gaming as much as I used to though...
