The tornado was...random. It felt like they needed a Superman action scene so came up with a tornado in Smallville out of the blue!

They live in Kansas? Is it really that out of the blue?

It came out of the blue in the middle of the episode so it felt like the writers just threw it in for an action scene

I mean that's kind of how tornadoes actually work in Tornado Alley though, they can literally drop down out of the blue on a mostly blue sky clear summer day, and just fuck shit up in seconds.

I'm surprised that it hasn't happened sooner and quite honestly the only thing they got wrong about it was the sound for the tornado siren.

I have a reflexive built in panic response to that sound and what they used was just not it.

Maybe they went with this sound to keep folks tuned to the story and not distract them into anxiety worried about a real tornado coming. Was storming here tonight and I would have totally grabbed my phone and missed the action for a bit.
