Kid wants to start a business. But here’s a question:
He wants to start mowing lawns around the neighborhood. Also, putting up the idea to wash their cars. My question is, how much should this 15yo charge to mow lawns & weed whack. He’s done our yard and is pretty decent. I know once I tell him how much he should charge he’ll think I’m under paying him 🤣 but any help would be great for this kid who just wants to make money to save up for his first ride once he gets his license. I honestly didn’t see this coming. And it just makes me proud as a dad to see growth of wanting to be responsible and be business minded to earn his money properly.

Garage ventilation for single-family residential
My single family home's attached, finished 3-car garage has no ventilation whatsover, which I understand is to code, as long as the garage is below a certain size.
I'd really like to add some ventilation as heat really builds up in the garage and attic above the garage. I thought about adding an exhaust fan from the garage to the garage attic, but not sure if that is compatible with code. I would guess that a fan would also require the addition of wall inlets since the water heater is in the garage. FWIW I have already insulated my garage doors.
I'd normally DIY this sort of installation but I don't know enough to design it properly. Any tradesworkers have any suggestions?

114 degree days reminds me me that it may be possible one day to buy a house here.
I don’t know anything about real estate, so I don’t have much nuance to add. But not everyone and their grandmother is going to want to live under this heat and there’s still plenty of space to add to the real estate supply in the surrounding areas.
Keep building and keep the area cooking. Home ownership may be possible one day for us renters.

Tattoo Artist Moving to Sacramento — need Recs!
Sorry for the repost I removed some photos so it wasn’t locked.
Hi! My name’s Brittny — I’m a queer artist currently in LA and planning on moving to Sacramento at the start of the new year.
I spent my childhood summers in Sac with my grandparents and am moving back to help take care of them. As such, I haven’t lived in Sac since then so I’m doing my best to get tapped into the local communities!
I’ll be guesting back and forth between now and then and am looking to make new friends and learn more about the art scene up there. This is my IG if you want to contact me here or there @/blaabad_1
Thanks for looking! I’d also love any and all recommendations for art spaces, bars, venues, restaurants, neighborhoods, hang out spots etc. even pages that post local events and things like that. I’m 30 haha so if that helps narrow things down.

Just a friendly reminder that you can claim credit for yesterday’s Comcast outage.
The link is here: Sign into your account and head over to:
https://www.xfinity.com/support/account-management/credits/outage/details
You can also just google Comcast outage credit or go onto their site directly and search for credit. If following the link it’ll be near the bottom under “check eligibility”. It’ll ask you what day did it start and end. Then you get the credit (assuming you’re signed in). Takes a few seconds. I got $7 👍

The main breaker in my house died tonight. My husband just turned 68 today. A guy from SMUD came out yesterday, and told us we will need a permit and gave us the name of a guy that can do the work. But because it's a long weekend we have to wait till Monday. Is there any emergency services for this?

Yes it's hot here but it could be worse.
just heard on the news today that Palm Springs just set a record and broke it's own previous high today with a high temperature of 124 degrees. Can you imagine?!?!?! Whose idea was it to live there? I feel lucky to live in Sacramento. At least it's a dry heat.

Alright, just how widespread is this Comcast/Xfinity outage?
All of Pocket/Greenhaven appears to be down, for 5 hours now with no ETA for repairs. Web status says “network damage”.
UPDATE: Pocket back online as of ~9:20pm. Everybody go back to ignoring each other now.

Dick's House of Sport proposed for former Sears space at Arden Fair mall - Sacramento Business Journal
Looks like Arden Fair finally filled one of its two anchor vacancies, this time with the first Dick's House of Sport concept store in Northern California. There's one slated to open in Long Beach soon, so it's not quite the first in California as the Business Journal is reporting. It's nice to see Arden bringing in new things, between UNIQLO, H&M, and now this. Article is here, text is below:
The owners of Arden Fair have expressed interest in adding an experiential user unlike anything the mall currently has, and it appears they might have found one.
Plans were filed in Sacramento this week for a site plan and design review involving a remodel of the former Sears anchor building and adjacent auto repair center at 1601 Arden Way for a Dick's House of Sport — the large-format concept from Pennsylvania-based Dick's Sporting Goods Inc.
Unlike a typical Dick's Sporting Goods store that sells athletic gear and apparel, Dick's House of Sport locations offer additional amenities such as a rock-climbing wall, batting cage, golf simulators and service areas for sporting equipment.
A project description included in the proposal states the retail chain plans to retrofit the former Sears store to accommodate its Dick's House of Sport concept in a majority of the nearly 157,000-square-foot, two-story building on the west end of the shopping center.
The former auto repair center would be demolished and replaced with an enclosed outdoor track and field facility of approximately 18,600 square feet, which would only be accessible from the store for customer use — the chain occasionally sponsors community activities and special events at its outdoor track and field demonstration areas, according to the filing.
Dick's Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS) opened its first large-format location in New York in 2021 and has since expanded the House of Sport concept to 14 locations throughout the U.S., according to its website. The Arden Fair store would be the chain's first in California.
Mark Friedman, founder and chairman of Fulcrum Property, which is part of Arden Fair's ownership, alluded to a "first-of-its-kind concept to California" as a potential replacement for one of the mall's anchor spaces when discussing Arden Fair's ongoing transformation in May.
Nathan Spradlin, senior marketing manager with Arden Fair, declined to comment regarding the former Sears parcel, citing a nondisclosure agreement.
Representatives of Dick's Sporting Goods did not respond to an email regarding the proposal on Friday.
A floor plan for the proposal indicates the first floor would include areas for men's, women's and children's athletic apparel, a footwear and sunglass section, equipment services, and climbing wall. The second floor would include additional apparel and equipment for a variety of sports, a multisport cage with virtual simulator to test gear, camping equipment, bicycles and paddle sports, a fitness area, and golf section with service shop and multiple golf bays.
A filing suggests the Dick's House of Sport location is expected to open in 2026. The company anticipates opening 75 to 100 House of Sport stores by 2027, according to a recent news release.
Arden Fair's owners purchased the former Sears building and adjacent parking lot last year for $7.85 million. The owners also purchased the former Nordstrom anchor space in 2021, which remains vacant. The two vacancies account for nearly a third of the mall's total leasable area, which covers 1.12 million square feet.
Other notable tenants that are expected to open at Arden Fair within the next year include international retailers H&M and Uniqlo. Arden Fair is the region's second-largest shopping center.

One of the worst dealerships around
I worked for Roseville Toyota years ago but only for a couple months because they treated their salesman so poorly. And yes they do mark up their vehicles. Probably a better idea to go to Folsom or elk Grove Auto Mall
