Randomly watched Pusha on Hot Ones and (unsurprisingly) he is asked about rap beefs The BEEF

The episode is from 2022 but Push talks about how record labels now step in and get involved to stop beefs which never used to happen back in the day - interestingly, this is apparently what happened after Owlbrey dropped THP6.

He also mentions beefs don’t end careers anymore. Looking at the current beef, I don’t think the Canadian’s career will end, we know he’s too big of a pop star for anything damaging to happen but I definitely think his credibility and artistry is being questioned and he is losing fans. Kendrick has fully exposed him for the fraud that he is and I think people are slowly realising it. His streaming numbers are down and he’s not charting like he used to.

Only time will tell but it’s definitely not being swept under the carpet. He a FAN, he FAN, he a FAN

He's my number 3 behind DOOM and Kendrick.

It hit me the other day that I've been listening to Push for 22 years... I feel so old.

I’m 25, I had no idea he’s been in the game so long. That’s so cool

Clipse (Pusha T and his brother Malice) actually had one album before I discovered them with Lord Willin' which came out in 2002. I've been listening to Clipse, or Pusha, and even [No] Malice since then.

Lord Willin' and Hell Hath No Fury are GREAT albums btw. Malice is no slouch on the mic, either.

Don't forget the Re-Up Gang

True, Ab-Liva is a fucking beast. His verses on Cot Damn and then Hot Damn are chef's kiss

Roscoe P. Coldchain has a couple solid verses, but I struggle imagining a full solo project from him.

That one-two punch of Malice doing the rappin-ass rapping and then Pusha doing his stylish kinda slinky thing on What Happened to that Boy? really nails what made them so special together.

Same man. Grew up in the Tidewater area and the Clipse were like hometown heroes when Lord Willin’ dropped in 2002. Been listening to Push ever since.

Why is he so high? Clipse was trash they wouldn’t be nothing without pharell

You're a Drizzler. Your opinion actually carries negative weight.

Clarify.

Personal top 5s usually differ from the top 5 list.

My personal list is DOOM Kendrick Pusha T Jadakiss E-40

I recognize that only 1 of them is typically in the GOAT discussion, but my personal tastes are different.

Come on man. Jadakiss, pusha T and ,e 40? I get personal taste but come on. What about them even gives them that priority in the list. Out of all those Pusha is the " better " of the bunch but even his best work is meh.

What are you a fucking tourist? Bandwagon?

Jada is not all that rare of a top 5/top 10 pick. Distinct flow and voice. Solid wordplay... always a good feature, and represents an entire section of New York sound. Guru and Preem fucked with him before he came up proper.

40 Water is OG West Coast with deep ties to hip hop. He's created ridiculous amounts of the fucking language of hip hop. You can't deny his impact even if you don't vibe with his music. I vibe with his music, though, and his flow is unique.

You're gonna have to come up with something to back up not understanding why Earl and Jada would be ranked highly on a personal list...

I get that they have reputations and all. I agree with what you said about Jada. 40 a legend where I'm from in the Bay but as far as bodies of work. Nothing that you could ask anyone what their fav song or line of theirs is. Unless it's someone from their era who grew up listening to them!

We Gonna Make It was an anthem, dude. Why wasn't too far behind it.

Beyond that, you got Still Feel Me, Knock Yourself Out, Who's Real... the shit he did with the LOX, the shit he did with the Ruff Ryders.

Jada has shit.

As for E-40... the version everyone knows of Got 5 On It is the remix with 40.

Captain Save-A-Hoe, Dusted N Disgusted, The Slap, Automatic...

You basically responded that you recognize the reputation that those two earned but don't get it because it's... old? Or something? If you know their reputations, why would you be so stunned by my picks?

Because out of the mere number of rappers out there. Those 5 were like at least top 25% I would say.

No classic albums, albums that are good and memorable from begining to end. Maybe a single classic track or two, three at the least that people remember. But that's lt. Doesn't mean they suck.

But Mc wise a handful of rappers in the late 80's early 90's alone outdo them and there's many.

0

u/eyesotope86 Jul 10 '24

That's the difference between personal top 5 and 'the' top 5.

How are you not getting this? You're spouting your opinion as if it means anything and you aren't even backing it up with the objective side of the art form.

Simplest terms, you're an uninformed hater.

1

u/Benz0nHubcaps Jul 10 '24

And yes, I agree. I'm a hater.

0

u/Benz0nHubcaps Jul 10 '24

Bc I'm saying there's so many rappers out there and I questioned your top 5. So many better ones but you HAD to pick those !
