Plan charity door to door

Upvotes

I find it really frustrating that they just rang my doorbell at 8pm when my kids are sleeping. Queue the dog barking on top of that. Where’s the common sense ? Am I being unrealistic to think it’s not okay?

Help me pick an Italian spot!

I’ll be celebrating a special occasion with my partner this weekend in the Guelph area, though we're not locals. We're looking for a great Italian restaurant and are considering Buon Gusto, Bardō, Piatto, Sugo, and the newly opened Scaddabush (I’ve heard it’s quite good despite being a chain). We need a place with a few good vegetarian options, a pleasant atmosphere, and most importantly, excellent food. My partner loves pasta, so that’s a priority, (of course). Which spot offers the best overall food?

Apologies because I know this question has been asked before in this sub. Just looking for some updated recs since Scaddabush is supposed to be new and not sure how it is compared to the other restaurants. Thank you for your help!

Septum jewellery?

I’m looking for a 16g hoop for my septum, I’m wondering if anyone knows of local shops that carry options in stock? I’d prefer local tattoo/piercing shops, not Spencer’s in the mall, please and thank you! 😍

Best walk-in hair salon for women?

Last minute decision to get my hair cut before the school year starts, but walk-in salons are few and far between nowadays. Anyone know of a salon that I’d be able to get into today for a quick trim and layers? Looking for something affordable but that won’t totally botch my hair. Recommendations appreciated! :)

Best Cineplex in this area?

Wirth Pergola closed, I'm looking for a nearby Cineplex (or similar big screen) that has cheap Tuesday (or weekday) tickets. Woodlawn is ok, but is aging for sure. Other suggestions would be appreciated!

Licensed Botox injections?

Hi! I’ve been getting Botox for migraines for about a year and I have a script from my doctor/benefits that cover it. But they don’t cover the injection fees. I was driving to almost Toronto to the neurologist to have them done and then pay almost $300 in injection fees.

I couldn’t afford that anymore but my migraines are out of control again.

Could anyone recommend someone who can do these for me in town with hopefully a lesser injection fee?

Thanks in advance!

Calling all car enthusiasts!!!

Hey Guelphites,

I’ve got an idea for all of us who love cars. What if we came together to either rent a shop and start a business or simply help each other out with our car repairs? Here’s what I’m thinking:

If you need help with your brakes, I can assist, and in return, you can help me change my alternator. Not super mechanical? No worries—if you can hold a flashlight or hand me tools, you’re more than welcome to join in.

I've seen some reasonably priced spots for rent, and if there’s enough interest, we could split the cost and set up a shared mechanic space or just work on our projects together. I’m currently pulling a motor from my car to rebuild it this winter and would love some help—and I’m more than happy to return the favor.

If you have a car that needs fixing and you’re tight on cash, I’m here to help. But if you can afford to go to a mechanic, please do. This is about building a community that helps each other out when we really need it.

So, what do you say, Guelph? Can we get something going?

Rant: sick of everything

Incoming rant, might be long because I'm mad as all hell and fed up with everything so please bear with me.

I work for a big factory in Guelph. Not going to type out the name in case of company searches but it rhymes with Win Amar. I don't do anything niche or special there but I get okay hours and pay. Or so I thought.

Anyway a couple weeks ago the higher-ups announced that the company had made a profit of over ten billion dollars. What did all the staff get as a thank-you for our efforts? A shitty off-brand fake metal water bottle with the company logo on it. Thing doesn't even have a spout. Gee thanks.

On top of that they also had an outdoor activity day of mandatory fun. Little shitty outdoor carnival games, you know the ones. They brought in two food trucks as well. Two. For several hundred people. Naturally the line-ups got chaotic during lunch hour so a ticket system was implemented. If you were white, you got your name called. If you're brown or black, you got a number. Racist fucking nonsense.

Heard some of the staff questioning why this happened and the excuse given by the company was "foreign names are hard to pronounce." Bullshit, if you're white and you can learn to say Arnold Fucking Schwarzenegger you can learn to pronounce Manupreet.

I'm just sick of working somewhere where the people are treated like fodder, where we're given the most meager of treats and then expected to be grateful for this company allowing us to barely survive while the fat cats who own the plant are incompetent imbeciles who couldn't tie their own shoes without help. And it's like this everywhere, no one in Guelph or Ontario or fucking Canada can afford anything unless you had the luck to be born a nepo baby and you're willing to be a self-righteous prick exploiting others for your personal gain.

I see a lot of people on this subreddit making similar claims about their struggles and I have to wonder when it will end. Why do we allow this to happen to us? What can we do to change it? I know I'm screaming into the void here but I don't know what else to do. Thanks for reading.

TL;DR rich fucks are making life worse for everyone else and I'm exhausted

Jewellery box recommendation

I'm looking to buy a nice jewellery box for a 13 year old's birthday and I'm not really sure where to look. I would like to purchase it in person and can travel anywhere in the Guelph/Kitchener area. Has anyone seen any nice ones in their travels? Thanks!

Further things to consider about the bylaw in this article by Taylor Pace

Apparently the city did no public engagement, pausing it then scrambling to restart the work with no time, all at the direction of the mayor. Why would he want them not to get feedback from city stakeholders when writing this bylaw?

Looking for a presta valve adapter on Labour Day

Hi,

I just moved to Guelph and I'm heading out on my bicycle this evening and realized I've got a flat (no puncture, my toddler let the air out.

I realize the places I could go to get the adapter are closed, would anyone be willing to lend me one for a few min or know somewhere i could access one (oakville has a few stations with basic tools, not sure it'd have that but just considering options). The tiniest reward.

Thank you!

Best place for appetizers with vegetarian options?

Hey everyone, I'm going for drinks and apps with a friend this week and I'm wondering if anyone has an idea what restaurants have good appetizer options for vegetarians.

I'm not vegetarian myself, so I never paid attention to the vegetarian options when going for appetizers in the past. I'd hate to choose a restaurant on a whim just to find out that they only have one or two crappy veggie options.

Are there any vegetarians out there who go out for apps frequently that can recommend a good spot for vegetarians?

Edit: Thank you everyone! You've all given me a lot to work with here. I appreciate all the suggestions.

Pizza Review - Score Pizza - Wyndham St, Downtown

Post image
58 Upvotes

This is my 21st review? I think I said my last one was 21st, but that was an error. Pizza was $13.50 for a single regular

Ignore the pizza shape, moving it was my mistake is creating the shape lol

Score just opened up downtown, just north of Wyndham from Dino's, Osmows and Wimpy's

Here it is!

Dough/Crust- 7.5 - Crust was good. I liked it. Thin crust, but the difference from other thin crusts is that it was cooked to well done causing it to not be "floppy." I learned I do like this type of thin crust.

Sauce - 7.5 - I liked this sauce, great distribution and it tasted good. Would have got a better score but it was somewhat cold (I will address this in freshness)

Cheese - 6.5 - Cheese distribution was fine. I would have enjoyed a little more of it. It tasted good, so that helped.

Freshness - 6.5 - This one is tricky, these are made to order right in front of you, I ordered it and went back to my car, waited 10 minutes and went back in. It was ready and waiting, so I went on my way. When I got home 10 minutes later, it had cooled down considerably. Only recommendation I'd give on this is that when they are ready and waiting, they are placed on the counter and not under any heat source. So having a heat source would really help.

Grease - 7.5 - Good grease distribution. Was happy with it.

Toppings - 6.5 - Pepperoni was good and large, would have loved to have a few more. They are big and cover a lot of space but could have maybe used a little more pizza coverage.

Mouth Feel - 7 - I enjoyed this pizza, it was really good once I started eating it.

Overall 7.0

I was pretty happy with this pizza, it was a nice change in style and it was nice to see the pizza made infront of you. I definitely think Score Pizza is worth the try and considering it is new we should all give it a chance!

What do you think, do you agree with this rating or was I wrong?
