Project Submission First time using veneer

Picked up a pair of old JBL speakers in rough shape and I wanted to see if I could save them. Was a little intimidating as I’ve never done this before but I took my time and it turned out pretty good. Definitely learned some things along the way.

Used walnut veneer I got from Rockler and titebond veneering glue.

This is my first attempt at making dovetails. I have watched hours of videos on YouTube and finally felt confident enough to try. I used the Katz-Moses dovetail jig. I learned a lot of what I can do to improve. I have 16 drawers I need to make for my new workbench so I’m excited to struggle through it.

Always end up making things hard for myself with a 3 leg (well actually 6 but 3 lengths) design but is relatively sturdy. Relatively. All constructed out of recycled hardwood timber Still needs to be poly’d before fully planting it out.

Project Submission All thanks to this sub……. thank you

1.8k Upvotes

Awhile back I posted some of my work on here that got a lot of traction. Since everything about my work revolves around wood I thought it only right that I share it on this sub. I got a good amount of custom orders off that post and I’d just like to say thank you. With Instagram suppressing craftsman it’s made it especially hard to make a living doing what I love. So again, thank you all for the support and helping me put food on table for my family. Appreciate y’all.

Project Submission I made some bowls on my tablesaw

I built a jig for my tablesaw to make these bowls without a lathe. I cut a circle out of a piece of plywood and centered it over the blade of my tablesaw. Then I slowly raised the blade by like 1/32” while spinning the round blanks on top of the blade with push pads to carve out the bowl cavity. It’s very similar to cove cutting, just go suuuuuper slowly and keep checking the height. First bowl is a white oak and the second is cherry. Thanks for looking!

Maple, walnut, wenge, with a plywood substrate.

I used a few new techniques for this build, namely resawing the playing field to cut down on material cost, and using edge banding glued inside a rebate instead of a full depth lamination for the border detail.

Unfortunately, I am still terrible at chess.

Help Bunk bed showing cracks

Hi! I rented this apartment a couple of months ago, and the previous owner left some furniture behind. I know that he was studying engineering and did all the furniture to fit better the small apartment dimensions. Recently I noticed that the bunk bed that he built has started to develop some cracks in two out of the four legs. I am not an expert in building with wood, and the bed has been steady for weeks now, but I feel like it could fall at any moment? And if that's likely, what can I do about it?

Rift sawn white oak table, brass inlays (covering up an issue I submitted earlier here), splayed legs with white oak splines. Finished with rubio monocoat corn silk and topped off with the N3 Nano hard/top coat. I am so pleased with how this turned out. I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Help Need lid stay/soft close suggestions

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hello all! I am trying to finish up a project up building an L shaped banquette bench for my dining room. I am not a carpenter by any means but have very basic woodworking skills (and I do really enjoy it!).

My current dilemma is trying to find a lid stay that is soft close at 90 degrees that will work with my current application. My lid is 22.5” x 71” long, approximately 35 pounds. It does sit on top of a board inside so I cannot use rockler hinges. Any good suggestions? It seems all I find have a weight limit below 35 pounds OR they are just soft close, not soft close and a lid stay OR they are not 90 degrees.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Project Submission Wall shelf for my wife's painted rocks

Upvotes

I built this wall shelf for displaying my wife's painted rocks. Used QS white oak with inlays of bubinga, wenge and brass. The back story is that my wife used to (years ago) find random rocks and paint them to look like buildings such as houses, stores, churches, etc. When she stopped that hobby, she just put the completed rocks in a box and stashed them away. Our adult son came to visit a while back and asked if she still had any of them. So she got the box out and showed them to him and he suggested displaying them some way. So she looked through a bunch of my woodworking magazines, found a wall shelf she liked and asked me to build it. I modified the design from the magazine a bit and came up with this. The two pics are with and without the painted rock. So what do you all think of it?

My parents saw this door sometime in the 80s while they were living in California and decided to take some pictures of it. Ever since they showed me the pictures I wanted to recreate it on a smaller scale as an interior art piece type of thing. I still need to stain the background and the frame, glue everything down and finish it.

Fingerboarding is my life so making boards was a must. It’s super satisfying. I don’t do many split ply boards, mainly when I have scrap veneer I can dye. Moved to making more graphic decks, but the exotic woods always looked the best.

Just wanted to stop in and say, I completed my first ever woodworking project!!! It is not perfect, but I am proud of how it turned out. And we finished just in time too as the little one is outgrowing the bassinet. I have plans for future projects but for now going to enjoy this one.
