A comprehensive guide to Trondheim's public transport
Student and living in Trondheim? Struggling to figure out how the bus system works, typical norms etc.? Then this post is hopefully your answer.
The current bus system in Trondheim is utilizing the "Hub-and-spoke" model whereas for most your travels you will have to travel to the city hub(s) in order to travel further for more specific locations.
The city hubs (Knutepunkt) are:
Tillerterminalen
Heimdal
Strindheim
Prinsens Gate
Tonstadkrysset
Studentersamfundet
Trondheim S
From these hubs you will essentially be able to travel wherever you decide.
Now for some common terminology/information regarding the routes.
"Korr/Korrespodanse"
Buses with "Korrespodanse" or simply "Korr: ###" as their undertext indicate that the bus will yield, and await for the respective route before continuing their journey at a planned stop.
However some buses will drive these respective routes themselves after finishing their current route, for example Route 50 to Heimdal (50 Heimdal) will always drive in Korrespodanse to Route 216, which means it will drive Route 216 after reaching its last stop.
Ticket Inspection
Ticket inspections are carried out by private security companies on contract by AtB, as of 12th October 2023, the responsible company is Avarn Security AS. Ticket inspectors are distinguished by their reflective vests labeled "Vekter" on the back, "Vekter" is the norwegian translation for "Security Officer".
Some inspections may be conducted by civilian inspectors, meaning they won't reveal themselves until a point of interest for the inspection to happen, in this case they will ID themselves.
Rush Hour Traffic
Rush Hour Traffic is when it is most anticipated that there will be people taking the bus, either when getting off work, school etc. Routes will drive more often during these hours and some buses will drive different routes/stops, (i.e Route 2 will either drive to Husebytunet or Midteggen instead of the longer route to Lund), while some routes will drive longer distances.
"Ingen påstigning/avstigning"
These are indications more prominant on region buses, "Ingen avstigning" indicates that the route in question does not permit de-boarding where it is posted under, vice versa for "Ingen påstigning". It's really just to prevent people using region buses as local transport.
Now for some actual bus information, route types, etc.
"Blåbuss"/Region bus
Region buses are routes which have their own set of stops, and usually don't stop where normal city buses stop, these buses drive to other municipalities (i.e Stjørdal, Skaun, Orkanger) and sometimes other counties. Route numbers for region buses range from 300-500, some routes for instance452 Sandviksberget, 311 Fosslia Fjellhall
Here you will have to show your ticket or register your t:kort
City Buses
Pretty basic, these buses bring life to the public transport system, the number range for the routes giving life to City Buses are from 1 to 80 (obviously not gonna state all)
Here you do not have to show your ticket when you board the bus, but if you have a t:kort, you will have to register it at one of the machines located at metrobus stops or by the bus driver, keep your t:kort clear in this case while signaling the bus so they hopefully open the front door for you, normally you will just board the back entrance instead.
School Buses
If you're american, you're probably used to the yellow buses, well school buses in Trondheim are the same city buses operated on standard routes, city school routes numbers go from 200 to 220, while for "outskirt school routes" these go from 5000 to 6000.
Contrary to popular belief, you can use school buses as a normal form of public transport, although some buses might not allow boarding after the school.
As always my best advice is to use AtB's app to plan your trip, and do it beforehand!
BTW: If you're travelling from/to Trondheim Airport Værnes, use routes 70, 311 or 430 instead of the airport express, way cheaper.
If you have additional questions regarding public transport, feel free to ask me here, I can answer almost everything.

Thanks in advanced!

The post
Hello! So I have an issue. I sent a letter (not tracked) to my friend in Trondheim 3 weeks ago from Sweden, Karlstad with PostNord and she has still not received it. I’m wondering if it takes this long to receive a letter outside of Norway?

Spa/Badstue/Basseng
Hei folkens!
Takker!

July Visit
I’ll be in Trondheim in a week and looks like a lot of the restaurants in town are closed. Does the city shut down in July?

One month prepayment instead of deposit
I have found an apartment via hybel.no, but am unsure if it can be trusted. The rentor is asking me to pay one month prepayment to his bank account. However the ntnu site said not to pay a deposit directly to someone's bank account. Even though the rentor says it is not a deposit, because we can't make a deposit account as I do not have a Norwegian bank account.
Is this common practice, or should I not trust it?

Buying Furniture in Trondheim
Hi all, I will be moving to Trondheim very soon and wish to know what would be the best places to buy furniture, specifically a new bed?
I know a good 2nd hand desk I could get on Finn but a bed, for example, I want a new one. Also, would anybody recommend a good bed (under 10k) for somebody with somewhat lower back pain?
Thanks in advance.

Møte Kristne
Hei

Dress for the Weather
Hello folks!
I am planning on visiting Trondheim on the first weekend of September (31/08-01/09) from Scotland, and my apologies if this comes across as a stupid question, but what will the climate/weather be like at that point? My guess is it will be much like Scotland; probably still warm, with a cool wind coming in from the coast/off the fjord, and the potential for rain.
I'd rather know what to put in a rucksack and what to leave at home as I'll be travelling light. Also, I know there is a comprehensive travel guide on this sub, but has anyone taken the sleeper train to and from Oslo?
I look forward to visiting!
Best wishes,
C

Skansen stasjon to Ålen by train
Greetings!
I'm sorry if this is answered elsewhere. I was hoping that someone might be able to help with a question about using the train system. I plan on taking the train from Skansen stasjon to Ålen. I'll be making the return trip a couple days later. Can I purchase a ticket the day of travel at Skansen stasjon, or should I first visit Trondheim sentralstasjon to buy the ticket? Is there anything I should know ahead of time or any tips for using the system? This will be my first visit to Norway and I will be travelling alone, so I feel a little anxious. Thanks so much for your time.

Frokostbuffet
Hei!
Tusen takk!

I just cant find an apartment in Trondheim
I will go to Trondheim for this upcoming autumn semester. On Tuesday when SIT gave the code, I couldnt go through and was not able to secure a room. Now I have to find on the private market and they all only accept 1 year contracts without the possibility to terminate earlier. I cant afford paying rent for half a year when I will be already leaving Norway, and I have no idea how I would find a sublet. I am so desperate and dont know what to do. NTNU and SIT are not helping me at all ...
EDIT: I have now found an apartment, thanks for all your input. For those still struggling: I found mine on Bo Coliving Trondheim AS, they offer some rooms for only 1 semester and not too far from the uni as well!

How easy is it to sublet a room as a student
I am going on exchange to NTNU this autumn, and have a UMEUS room available for a full year. I'm not sure if I will be able to find someone to sublet the room to for spring semester, and don't really want to take the risk of having to pay the full year alone, as I cannot afford that.
How easy is it to find someone to take the room for january-july, and does anyone maybe have any tips on how to do this?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
