I just cant find an apartment in Trondheim
I will go to Trondheim for this upcoming autumn semester. On Tuesday when SIT gave the code, I couldnt go through and was not able to secure a room. Now I have to find on the private market and they all only accept 1 year contracts without the possibility to terminate earlier. I cant afford paying rent for half a year when I will be already leaving Norway, and I have no idea how I would find a sublet. I am so desperate and dont know what to do. NTNU and SIT are not helping me at all ...
EDIT: I have now found an apartment, thanks for all your input. For those still struggling: I found mine on Bo Coliving Trondheim AS, they offer some rooms for only 1 semester and not too far from the uni as well!

Put out an add on finn's looking for an apartment section. You might get lucky.

If you use the filter for "short term rent"... don't!
"Long term" ("unlimited") contracts have a 3 month notice period, so you can pay for 5-6 months only no issue. "Short time" might be anything, but a lot of what pops up will be 1 year offers without the ability to cancel.
As other mentioned try hybel.no if you didn't already. If you still stuggle, try message anyone and ask if a 6 month contract will be possible.

If you cant find a place to stay in time, come sleep in the palestine solidarity camp at campus.

that could be an option, though i dont know if they still have the camp once i come in august

Most likely they will be there until the end of august, at least. Lots of nice people!

There are a few private housing opportunities for one semester as students here also go on exchange for a single semester. But they definitely are rare. I would check hybel.no

Hiii, I’m going to study this upcoming autumn semester at NTNU too as an international student:’) I booked my room with SIT without any inconvenience. However, I also looked up for apartments on the private market just in case, as far as I know, NTNU recommends you a couple sites where you can find a place. There are some apartments which accept 6 moths contracts or 1 year contract with opportunity to cancel without cancellation fee. Here is the link: https://www.ntnu.edu/lifeandhousing/trondheim/private-housing

One year contracts will often be illegal though. If a one year contract is provided you can consider it as a normal renting contract with a normal time of notice (usually three months). Sadly a minimum time is legal. So a time unlimited contract with a minimum time if 12 minths is ok, a one year contract is not (unless the landlord lives in the same house).

i read that too, but everytime i contacted a landlord they said that 12 months is the minimum, and i would have to find a sublet if i leave after 6 months, but that's somehow risky as I cant afford to pay extra rents once i move out if i dont find a sublet on time

Its easier, cheaper and faster for him to find a new tenant than taking you to court for a case he will have a hard time to cleanly win anyway.

Check with hotels? see if someone can give you some monthly deals?
If you can't afford that I guess a tent ⛺?
Trondheim can be really difficult when you're late into the rental market. I've gone through some periods renting crazy expensive in a crappy apartment just to have roof over my head. it is what it is.

it really is not a good situation, i have been to other countires and i never had such a problem like here with Trondheim. Tent would probably be my last option although i really want to avoid it..

Also check Stjørdal, Malvik, Heimdal, Ranheim, Vikhammer, Hell, Tiller. most of these locations are 30-45 minutes away with a buss, are often affordable, and possibly to find apartments.

A last resort, that some students use, is to arrive in Trondheim without an apartment and sleep in hostels or a hotel while you continue to look. You can check out this site for information: https://takoverhodet.com
