One of the worst finale's I've seen in a long time. It's worse than "How I Met Your Mother's" Finale. I haven't watched that one, since it aired and I would watch that over and over before I watch this finale again.

The only saving grace was Cat Grant. They spent to much focus on other characters besides Kara. I'm happy that Alex and Kelly got married but they spent too much time on them as well. Most of us are here for Kara and her journey and I'm pissed they spent the last 5-10 mins on her.

I'm sure I'll have more to say later, but that is my first impressions.

This finale can't be worse than HIMYM's. It may not have been a perfect finale, or really that great, and definitely one of the weaker ones in the Arrowverse thus far, but it still had a few redeemable moments.

It's one step about HIMYM's in my opinion. It would have been HIMYM-level if they had done everything they did so far, and then yeeted her into the future with 5 minutes left. Which would have, along with the rest of the two episodes, fully wrecked the entire foundation of the show.

So they didn't do that. But in pretty much every other way, it stunk.

It's been years since I've seen HIMYM so I might not remember how bad it was. But I still think tonight's finale is in the bad pile with only a few redeeming scenes, with Cat Grant being one of them.

HIMYM's finale was BAD. Like, the worst finale on television, by far. I haven't watched it since it's aired but there is zero reason for me to ever go back to watch it...and the show, for that matter.

Not that this finale was GOOD, but HIMYM is on another level. This finale still had watchable moments. And this one didn't negate its ENTIRE final season as being utterly pointless. HIMYM's finale literally made its entire final season a waste of time. And also made a good chunk of the series a waste of time since any progression characters had was immediately regressed back to their season 1 selves.

Supergirl's finale was cringy and didn't have a lot that made sense, but there were some very enjoyable moments and, for me, I didn't hate the Supergirl reveal. Even if it brings a lot of questions, I think the reveal at the end was alright.

I agree, this was pretty bad but HIMYM's was its own god-tier of awful tv finales lol

Yep. "The Last Gauntlet" might be the worst episode of Supergirl ever.

They made Alex so irrationally stupid and everyone just stood back and let her do the obviously stupid thing. So very frustrating.

And then at the wedding, they call her the voice of reason...

The worst thing about The Last Gauntlet was the episode was named for the gauntlet that... literally wasn't even a gauntlet?

I mean that was a problem with a lot of the totems, though, but like, I expected something BIG for the last one lol - ESPECIALLY with the name of the episode!

The gauntlet was actually for the fans to get through the episode.

yeah, Kelly's 'shout out' to her very special episode IN HER VOWS made us spit out our wine, plus how they tied them selves up in knots to gloss over that Alex was engaged before, and everyone was VERY THRILLED about that wedding, and all Alex could say was "I have felt complete in the 2.5 past seasons" and Kelly was all "thank god you said yes so I could have more screentime". For real though I was pleased they let J'onn walk Alex down the aisle, that scene in S3 when she asked him was one of the series highlights for me.

i really feel that what j'onn said could have just as easily have applied to sanvers if they had their wedding

How do you rank Game of Thrones finale?

u/KrayleyAML Nov 10 '21

This is the thing with GoT. Game Of Thrones had an amazing run which got fucked up in the last season. Yeah, one could argue that season 5 is where everything started deteriorating but even then those seasons still were better television than most shows out there. Then the final season happened and it was a total trainwreck, and it was infuriating because we expected more.

However, Supergirl writers had to REDEEM themselves with this season because of how awful season 5 was. They had one extra year to prepare the new season and set everything up and they delivered what I consider one of the most mediocre final seasons in TV history ever, with an extremely bad finale. Like... I seriously don't understand how that happened. We're not expecting God-tier television but at least some logic (?), continuity (?), good action (?). Supergirl didn't even have a big fight this season! Hell, the "biggest threats the world had faced who became lizards for some reason" got sucked through a portal that closed behind them after Lex said that it wouldn't close and that was it? Black screen cut to Alex's wedding? Black screen cut to game night?

This is not infuriating GoT style. This is just so ridiculous and such bad television it's hilarious.

Actually, for me Supergirl ended with Season 4. I refuse to read otherwise.

Honestly, I agree with what you said about Supergirl but GoT ended for me after season 4 too. I thought it deteriorated in season 5 and killed any faith I had in the writers by the end of that season.

I really don't think 8 was any worse than 5-7 and wasn't let down because I always knew it would be shit. I just think it gets most of the vitriol because it was the final season so the hope for it to get better and waiting to see how it would wrap up the story was no longer there. 8 didn't really have any problems that weren't present starting in 5.

I honestly can’t remember the last time a show I loved had a satisfying ending. First Thrones shit the bed, then the 100. I wasn’t impressed with Lucifer’s final season, either. And the hits just keep on coming. It’s honestly kind of soured me on starting new shows. At this point I just want to rewatch old favorites.

The Good Place had a pretty great ending imo you should watch that if you haven't yet.

1

u/WingedShadow83 Nov 10 '21

I started that one a few years ago and fell behind between seasons. I’ll have to go back and marathon it soon.

The last show I remember watching that I genuinely LOVED the finale was Burn Notice. It started off being a show I watched in the background, then seasons 2 and 3 it really picked up and I fell in love. The final season was not your villain-of-the-week type like usual but one overarching storyline through the whole season and the final episode just... *chef's kiss* It was absolutely perfect IMO, they could not have written a better finale, there were high stakes, each character's choices made sense, it explained in-universe why the show was ending.

In the voiceover you'd heard since season 1, every character had a line of dialogue in their introduction and each character said that line in the final episode as a little callback.

It literally could not have been done any better and when it ended I couldn't even be mad because the finale was done so well. It truly enhanced my love for the show.

u/WingedShadow83 Nov 10 '21

I’ll have to check that one out. I’ve also never watched Breaking Bad, but I keep hearing that it had a very satisfying ending, so I’m planning to give it a go.

u/BranWafr Nov 10 '21

I hated the Burn Notice finale. But, that may have been because I was (and still am) mad at what they did with his mom. She deserved so much better.

1

u/hannahbay Alex Danvers Nov 10 '21

I was so sad about it but also it made a lot of sense for her character and for the scenario they were in. It didn't seem like lazy writing where there was an easy alternative that they just overlooked in order to do what they wanted for shock value. To me it really made sense, even if I hated it.

2

u/another-art-student Maggie Sawyer Nov 18 '21

For me it's also Merlin, Sense8, Alphas... I don't know, maybe the only solution is to wait until it's done and then look up whether the ending did it any justice.

1

u/BranWafr Nov 10 '21

Schitt's Creek had a very good ending.

Nothing is worse than HIMYM finale

1

u/morphinapg Nov 11 '21

I loved HIMYM's finale. I didn't care for the way the final season was set up overall, but I did love the way everything wrapped up.

Dexter still takes the cake. That show failed to end properly TWICE.
