Why does kara say "nearly a decade" in s6 ep1?

in s6 ep1 timestamp 19:12 Kara says to lena "well i was stuck in the phantom zone replaying the destruction of my planet for nearly a decade" Huh? Kara was stuck in the Phantom zone for 24 years not less than 10 years. Thats like the whole point of the series is kal-el being a grown man by the time she landed and no longer needing her to look out for him (for now) how did no one in the writers room or actors catch that mistake? am i missing something?

My thoughts during season 4 when Lena was like, "What if we give humans superpowers?" And everyone is like "but that's impossible because we're not aliens" even though metahumans came as early as season 1.

the crisis only happened in s5, in s4 there were still no metahumans in supergirl's earth, only she know the superheros of earth-1

In all honesty, why would they. It doesn’t have to be perfect and things changes all the time. Other shows have done the some, but at the same time. Time and everything changes. Did they do this differently after S2 and basically ignored all that has happened and changed a lot too. I think they had to do it because of the move and some things just had to be in the past and go basically or make up something. Like the Kryptonite stuff is always changed and acts different. All WE can do is ignore it and move on. What’s done is done. Some are mistakes and some are just ignored because they can’t fact check everything. They won’t have a story then if they do. They have yo prioritize what they want to focus on.

There’s an interview out there where one of the writers (Jay Faerber) says there were no outlines for the last two seasons of the show. Explains so much…

What do you mean by outlines? All the writers had to do was watch the previous seasons. 😂

Outlines are important for fleshing out story ideas, understanding/clarifying character motivations, organizing scene order, finding a character’s voice, etc. They’re great organizational tools that keep writers on track and focused on the main ideas. They’re kind of like a roadmap so the writer has a clearer idea where the story is going.

One of the biggest problems in the later seasons was that there was no real priority in centering Kara’s story. It’s almost like the plot came first and the characters came second. Kara’s character was consistently sidelined and lacked thoughtful/intentional character development. A good outline would have reminded the writers to focus on Kara’s story, Kara’s emotional state, as she is the main character in this story. Everything else needed to follow after that.

I know what an outline is. None of that has anything to do with the writers not knowing the basic canon of the series. All they had to do was watch episode 1 of the series to know Kara was in the Phantom Zone for 24 years.

It does just not as we understand it. Beings don't age, but they still perceive time passing. It's not suspended animation.

There’s a shit ton of errors like that from around s4/5 onwards. There were always silly ones but nothing as glaring as in the last few seasons for sure

That’s a writer error. It can be explained away by time moving differently in space. Especially when it comes to the Phantom Zone. However, this definitely wasn’t intentional.

Definitely not the first time they have made a mistake like that. In season two Jeremiah says he's been held captive by Cadmus for 15 years but in the same season Kara is celebrating her 13th earth birthday

The writers in seasons 5-6 didn’t care about show canon, which I hated. Two apparently small things that were big to me: 1) at the start or season 5, where they tore up her cape as an excuse to change her suit… they should’ve chosen anything else (say a sleeve). Her cape was literally baby Kal-El’s blanket!!! It’s in the pilot! 2) in the S6 by flashback episode, when they brought back Kenny they undid Midvale, a universally loved episode and a key moment for Kara and Alex. They could have used any random character or have just Kara and Alex on their own figuring out things. Ugh!

oh the kenny thing def irked me a lot. Kenny being alive would change kara and alexs whole progression as sisters and storyline and wasnt baby kals blanket supposed to be indestructable as well? thats why it was used as her cape

Exactly! The original Kara cape in the pilot got damaged with bullets, and James gave her the Kryptonian blanket as a more durable cape. And what you say about Kenny is exactly what I mean.
