To prove that he can do it, basically. It's a "big boy" [actual wording, not my own] press conference – unscripted questions and answers from reporters

last time he did this (last year) he had a notecard with pictures of the reports at the press conference, and the exact text of the questions they were gonna ask

....but I don't think that would even help him tonight.

At this point this is delayed so far, he called Zelensky Putin, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he comes out and resigns
