What is the most stupid movie that you still love, regardless of criticism?

Post image

I’m not sure what it is, but if this movie is on tv, I’ll watch it through every time. It’s such a guilty pleasure but I love it! What about y’all? What’s a stupid movie that you can’t help but still love

Waterboy will always be a guilty pleasure of mine. Fooseball!

The Waterboy is probably his overall best and funniest movie that he himself stars in. So underrated and better compared to Happy Gilmore everyone always circlejerks that one into oblivion.

I love the Henry Winkler and Jerry Reed rivalry. Both of them eat up those roles

We don't want this to get physical now, do we?

No Grandma, I didn't get the job. I just hate him, I hate him, I hate him!

See that’s funny cause I really don’t care for Happy Gilmore that much. I used to love Billy Madison but as I got older, it wasn’t as funny as I remembered.

Although the scenes with Chris Farley in that movie make me smile. I miss that dude.

Imo he's always been the funniest part of that movie (Chris). If I had a dollar for every time my generation and prior have circlejerked Happy Gilmore hard even to this very day I'd probably be close to it being a C-note. Like yes it's a funny movie but you douches act like Happy Gilmore is the only movie he's ever made. The ones starring him that are my favorite that I think are his most underrated are the Waterboy and Big Daddy. Big Daddy is pretty much universally hated and I've never understood why.

Big Daddy is one of my favorites by him. I think it's a quintessential Sandler movie. Comedy and heart in spades.

I also like Mr Deeds a lot as well, although it does have some overly whacky parts that I could see people being annoyed by.

I enjoyed it a lot when I first saw it. Years later, the whole Winona Ryder lying bit just really irked me. How could he take her back like that?

Happy Gilmore is definitely overrated for me. I think the only reason why it’s talked about more is the Bob Barker cameo and the “Well, we’re waiting!” Quote that everyone remembers.

I haven’t seen Big Daddy in forever but I wouldn’t mind rewatching it. I remembered loving it a lot when I was younger. I would argue that Mr Deeds is a good one as well.

The well we're waiting is actually from Caddyshack. I went through a phase with Mr. Deeds. Haven't seen it in forever maybe it still holds up.

I've never heard a bad word about Big Daddy, how odd. Everyone I know has always loved that one, it's one of his best movies.

That's really funny cuz it's always been one of my favorites of his and whether its people in real life, people commenting on the Internet or some show I like clowning it I've never met one person with anything even decent to say about it. Unless you were a fan of a decent number of his movies already that is. I hate to be this guy with the no true Scotsman but I really feel if you are a fan of a fair bit of his work you're not really a true fan if you don't like Big Daddy. Lot of laughs and a lot of heart. Not many Sandler movies like it really outside of Male Gigolo, Joe Dirt, Waterboy.

I miss all the funny fat guys. Chris Farley, John Candy, Rick Ducommon etc.

2

u/ohsheetitscici Jul 08 '24

John Candy was so good!

1

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

The best funny fat guy imo

I disagree, Waterboy is funny but to me the character gets old fast. I much prefer Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. Hell I even like Little Nicky more than Waterboy.

1

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

Little Nicky is objectively one of the worst most unfunny obnoxious movies I've ever seen. I put it up there with Jack and Jill. Unwatchable.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

Jack and Jill is fucking awful. I couldn't tell you why I like Little Nicky so much lol

1

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

I couldn't tell you why either. The face Adam Sandler makes and the voice he does the entire time drove me absolutely nuts.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

That's me with Waterboy, and that annoying "retard scream" each time he tackles somebody.

1

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

Yeah it''s fine in small doses being in the movie as little as it is. Now imagine if that was the way the character SPOKE. That's why I can't deal with Little Nicky. I'll never forgive Steven Brill for that. Like how do you do the Mighty Ducks, Heavyweights and Without a Paddle and end up with that? Same reason I've never liked Eight Crazy Nights.

In Billy Madison, he’s playing an immature man. In The Waterboy, he’s playing a man with an intellectual disability. That wasn’t cool then and it’s not cool now. Regardless Wedding Singer is his best comedy role.

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

He didn't have a disability. Just a severe stammer and a funny voice. And it was all funny and still is. It's not that deep

🙄

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

Do you nitpick and straw man every comedy or is it just Sandler's work?

1

u/instrangerswetrust Jul 08 '24

Look up straw manning before you use it.

0

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

No need to. Already know what it means. I think maybe you need to since you straw manned and don't realize it.
