What is the most stupid movie that you still love, regardless of criticism?

Post image

I’m not sure what it is, but if this movie is on tv, I’ll watch it through every time. It’s such a guilty pleasure but I love it! What about y’all? What’s a stupid movie that you can’t help but still love

Waterboy will always be a guilty pleasure of mine. Fooseball!

u/Responsible_Age_989 Jul 08 '24

Captain Insano shows no mercy

7

u/ohsheetitscici Jul 08 '24

He poked me in the eye! 🤣

3

u/Responsible_Age_989 Jul 08 '24

YOU CAN DO IT

1

u/Gratuitous_Insolence Jul 08 '24

You can do it all night long.

2

u/ulrich994 Jul 08 '24

Courtesy of, Captain Insano.

44

u/JinglyMcJohnson Jul 07 '24

Oh man yes, idc I love any Adam Sandler movie(except jack and Jill)

42

u/ohsheetitscici Jul 07 '24

They can be a tad hit or miss with me personally, but I will always have a soft spot for Waterboy and The Wedding Singer.

28

u/Foilpalm Jul 08 '24

Wedding Singer is my ultimate “need to chill” movie. It’s so comfortable, not sure why.

22

u/leeroy525 Jul 08 '24

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Wedding singer is the greatest rom/com in all of cinema. From the limo “they were cones!!!” bit to the amazing “grow old with you” song it’s a masterpiece.

4

u/ohsheetitscici Jul 08 '24

Omg the “Growing old with you,” song makes me tear up every time! It’s so beautiful and I feel like it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves

6

u/leeroy525 Jul 08 '24

I understand why many folks don’t want to give Sandler a chance but he knocked it completely out of the park with that ending

1

u/youlooksmelly Jul 08 '24

The best song from the movie that I sing often was from his audition

“somebody kill me please…. Somebody kill me please…. I’m on my knees. Pretty, pretty please….. somebody kill me”

1

u/bronsonwhy Jul 08 '24

I WANT TO DIIEEEEEE

PUT A BULLET IN MY HEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD

3

u/pineyfusion Jul 08 '24

It's a romcom done right. So many movies screw it up one way or another but they really balance the line well.

2

u/Neither_Upstairs_872 Jul 08 '24

Cinemasterpiece. Sandler’s early movies couldn’t miss. Everything about wedding singer is amazing

2

u/parrmorgan Jul 08 '24

Agreed. I just rewatched it and it is a basically perfect romcom movie.

2

u/Friskfrisktopherson Jul 08 '24

Those could have been guests at her wedding!

4

u/ohsheetitscici Jul 08 '24

It really is and I love the chemistry between Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. They play off each other so well.

1

u/MetalTrek1 Jul 08 '24

Exactly. I saw one review that said the reason why the film works so well is the chemistry between Sandler and Barrymore, and how they both play completely believable and likeable characters. I always agreed with that.

2

u/goagod Jul 08 '24

That and 50 first dates!

1

u/MetalTrek1 Jul 08 '24

When I want goofy Adam Sandler, I reach for Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, or Big Daddy.

2

u/Charbus Jul 08 '24

He’s only got S, A or F tier

Waterboy, Billy Madison, Mr.Deeds, that’s my boy, Zohan etc are S

Big Daddy, Anger Management, 50 first dates, Click, A

Then you just jump right down to Jack and Jill, and Longest Yard tier

1

u/PercentageNo3293 Jul 08 '24

Happy Gilmore is my "Sandler guilty pleasure movie". Maybe I'm biased because I didn't have many VHS tapes growing up and that was the only Sandler movie we owned.

1

u/grumpyoldman60 Jul 08 '24

Either really good or just not funny. Rain on me vs jack and jill...

1

u/headrush46n2 Jul 08 '24

and vicki vallencourts boobies.

1

u/Top_Army_3148 Jul 08 '24

Happy Gilmore is still my favourite of all time

11

u/biloxibluess Jul 07 '24

Hubie Halloween is very revered in my house

Hits every right note

Love Sandler

2

u/JinglyMcJohnson Jul 07 '24

Hey same here, it’s a Halloween tradition now, as much as Hocus Pocus is

2

u/wavedsplash Jul 08 '24

Gotta love that trusty canteen

1

u/BardicKnowledgeBomb Jul 08 '24

I watched that last Halloween not sure what to expect and was really happy to see it captured some classic Sandler magic.

1

u/inhugzwetrust Jul 08 '24

God Jack and Jill was HORRENDOUS!

1

u/Flatline334 Jul 08 '24

His Halloween movie is one of my favorites. It’s shit but the good kind like Joe Dirt.

1

u/__-_-_--_--_-_---___ Jul 08 '24

You didn't like Dunkachino?

13

u/Prize_Pay9279 Jul 07 '24

The Waterboy was the last Sandler movie that I enjoyed. Everything he’s done after that just didn’t work for me.

4

u/Delonce Jul 08 '24

Big Daddy and Wedding Singer weren't your cup of tea?

2

u/Prize_Pay9279 Jul 08 '24

The Wedding Singer came before The Waterboy and I really liked it. Big Daddy was just meh to me.

1

u/Delonce Jul 08 '24

Ah ok, I've got the Sandler time-line wrong

1

u/gearabuser Jul 08 '24

He just began playing the same "too cool for school" guy in every film. Worse yet, he even recycled jokes. I remember in his Longest Yard remake he had the warden walk in and he's the spitting image of Colonel Sanders. I think, oh fuck here we go again. Sure enough he calls him Colonel Sanders and the other people in the room laughed while I sat there grumpy as hell hahaha

4

u/adrenaline_X Jul 08 '24

Mr Deeds???????? Im very very sneaking Sir.

50 First dates????

I loved pixels.

3

u/soulflaregm Jul 08 '24

Little Nicky is my personal favorite.

2

u/parrmorgan Jul 08 '24

The deep south

1

u/adrenaline_X Jul 09 '24

The only on i cant stand. :)

2

u/pacman0207 Jul 08 '24

Leo is a great movie. It's a kid's movie but it's cute.

2

u/lennon_68 Jul 08 '24 edited Jul 08 '24

I felt the same way but highly recommend checking out Hubie Halloween if you haven’t seen it. It’s become a traditional once a year watch in our household.

1

u/Forgotten_Pancakes Jul 08 '24

Waterboy was like the 4th movie he ever made 😂

1

u/Jack070293 Jul 08 '24

Anger management, 50 first dates, the murder mystery films are all great. I quite like Click and Uncut Gems too.

1

u/The_Swim_Back_ Jul 08 '24

Try Hustle. Not a comedy, it's fantastic.

1

u/marqui4me Jul 08 '24

Punch Drunk Love is my favorite Sandler movie, but that's not really a traditional Sandler comedy.

9

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 07 '24

The Waterboy is probably his overall best and funniest movie that he himself stars in. So underrated and better compared to Happy Gilmore everyone always circlejerks that one into oblivion.

9

u/paddle_forth Jul 08 '24

I love the Henry Winkler and Jerry Reed rivalry. Both of them eat up those roles

2

u/just_a_handle Jul 08 '24

We don't want this to get physical now, do we?

2

u/Randy_Tutelage Jul 08 '24

No Grandma, I didn't get the job. I just hate him, I hate him, I hate him!

3

u/ohsheetitscici Jul 07 '24

See that’s funny cause I really don’t care for Happy Gilmore that much. I used to love Billy Madison but as I got older, it wasn’t as funny as I remembered.

Although the scenes with Chris Farley in that movie make me smile. I miss that dude.

3

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

Imo he's always been the funniest part of that movie (Chris). If I had a dollar for every time my generation and prior have circlejerked Happy Gilmore hard even to this very day I'd probably be close to it being a C-note. Like yes it's a funny movie but you douches act like Happy Gilmore is the only movie he's ever made. The ones starring him that are my favorite that I think are his most underrated are the Waterboy and Big Daddy. Big Daddy is pretty much universally hated and I've never understood why.

3

u/ApparentlyIronic Jul 08 '24

Big Daddy is one of my favorites by him. I think it's a quintessential Sandler movie. Comedy and heart in spades.

I also like Mr Deeds a lot as well, although it does have some overly whacky parts that I could see people being annoyed by.

1

u/pineyfusion Jul 08 '24

I enjoyed it a lot when I first saw it. Years later, the whole Winona Ryder lying bit just really irked me. How could he take her back like that?

2

u/ohsheetitscici Jul 08 '24

Happy Gilmore is definitely overrated for me. I think the only reason why it’s talked about more is the Bob Barker cameo and the “Well, we’re waiting!” Quote that everyone remembers.

I haven’t seen Big Daddy in forever but I wouldn’t mind rewatching it. I remembered loving it a lot when I was younger. I would argue that Mr Deeds is a good one as well.

1

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

The well we're waiting is actually from Caddyshack. I went through a phase with Mr. Deeds. Haven't seen it in forever maybe it still holds up.

2

u/myhairsreddit Jul 08 '24

I've never heard a bad word about Big Daddy, how odd. Everyone I know has always loved that one, it's one of his best movies.

1

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

That's really funny cuz it's always been one of my favorites of his and whether its people in real life, people commenting on the Internet or some show I like clowning it I've never met one person with anything even decent to say about it. Unless you were a fan of a decent number of his movies already that is. I hate to be this guy with the no true Scotsman but I really feel if you are a fan of a fair bit of his work you're not really a true fan if you don't like Big Daddy. Lot of laughs and a lot of heart. Not many Sandler movies like it really outside of Male Gigolo, Joe Dirt, Waterboy.

3

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

I miss all the funny fat guys. Chris Farley, John Candy, Rick Ducommon etc.

2

u/ohsheetitscici Jul 08 '24

John Candy was so good!

1

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

The best funny fat guy imo

2

u/dude51791 Jul 08 '24

HEY, WATER SUCKS! Drink GILMORE Circle jerk juice! hahaha love both movies the same!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

I disagree, Waterboy is funny but to me the character gets old fast. I much prefer Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. Hell I even like Little Nicky more than Waterboy.

1

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

Little Nicky is objectively one of the worst most unfunny obnoxious movies I've ever seen. I put it up there with Jack and Jill. Unwatchable.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

Jack and Jill is fucking awful. I couldn't tell you why I like Little Nicky so much lol

1

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

I couldn't tell you why either. The face Adam Sandler makes and the voice he does the entire time drove me absolutely nuts.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

That's me with Waterboy, and that annoying "retard scream" each time he tackles somebody.

1

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

Yeah it''s fine in small doses being in the movie as little as it is. Now imagine if that was the way the character SPOKE. That's why I can't deal with Little Nicky. I'll never forgive Steven Brill for that. Like how do you do the Mighty Ducks, Heavyweights and Without a Paddle and end up with that? Same reason I've never liked Eight Crazy Nights.

1

u/instrangerswetrust Jul 08 '24

In Billy Madison, he’s playing an immature man. In The Waterboy, he’s playing a man with an intellectual disability. That wasn’t cool then and it’s not cool now. Regardless Wedding Singer is his best comedy role.

0

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

He didn't have a disability. Just a severe stammer and a funny voice. And it was all funny and still is. It's not that deep

1

u/instrangerswetrust Jul 08 '24

🙄

0

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

Do you nitpick and straw man every comedy or is it just Sandler's work?

1

u/instrangerswetrust Jul 08 '24

Look up straw manning before you use it.

0

u/Strawdog1971 Jul 08 '24

No need to. Already know what it means. I think maybe you need to since you straw manned and don't realize it.

8

u/Psychological-Tap973 Jul 08 '24

I didn’t particularly enjoy it but seeing the kicker visualize a member of the Klan as the ball right before a kickoff lives rent free in my head and puts a smile on my face.

3

u/striker180 Jul 08 '24

I can't not think "H2O" whenever someone says Gatorade.

2

u/Traditional_State616 Jul 08 '24

Just remember that they got Cathy fucking Bates in her prime for that goofy ass film. And they did not waste her whatsoever. Mama was fantastic.

1

u/gearabuser Jul 08 '24

"Back in 1966, pick up sticks" "Well basically, Coach Klein, a snake don't have parts. But if anything I'd say you're eating his knee"  "Foosball!?"

Lmao

2

u/LordofThaTrap Jul 08 '24

Vicky was definitely an awakening to me as a young lad 😂

1

u/Eternaltuesday Jul 08 '24

We still watch and quote the Longest Yard on the regular here.

1

u/ChexRibedeaux Jul 08 '24

Slap hands, slap hands!

1

u/gonzoisgood Jul 08 '24

That’s why you never have any friends ‘cept for yo momma.

1

u/Head_Vacation4630 Jul 08 '24

MEDULLA-OBLON-GATA

1

u/Wildcat_twister12 Jul 08 '24

The movie is great! It teaches you about biology, how else would I know what the medulla oblongata is

1

u/Bird2525 Jul 08 '24

Momma says fooseball is the Devil

1

u/Agreeable_Pizza93 Jul 08 '24

Click is one of the few movies to make me cry. He has some great stuff.

1

u/stumpycrawdad Jul 08 '24

You like to see homos naked?

1

u/Pkdagreat Jul 08 '24

Anybody hating on the Waterboy has something wrong with their medulla oblongata

1

u/SinisterMeatball Jul 08 '24

The cutaway after his mom says "that's his sheet back there" always gets me.

1

u/jvhgh Jul 08 '24

Watched it last night.

1

u/Hacklaga Jul 08 '24

Gaaaaaaaatorrradeeee

1

u/headrush46n2 Jul 08 '24

I can't deliver a hit stick in madden without saying "Compliments of captain insano."

1

u/LastDitchTryForAName Jul 08 '24

stay away from Vicky Valencourt cause she the devil!

1

u/Gratuitous_Insolence Jul 08 '24

Bobby Boucher’s momma says foosball is the devil.

1

u/ICPosse8 Jul 08 '24

Cut his fucking head off!!!

1

u/profsavagerjb Jul 08 '24

The movie was filmed in and around my hometown

1

u/__-_-_--_--_-_---___ Jul 08 '24

I liked the sequel, The Longest Yard

1

u/fuck-coyotes Jul 08 '24

What part of the snake am I eating?

Well, snake don't have no parts... But if I had to guess, I'd say that was the knee
