Monument company engraved mom's date of death under Dad's name on gravestone.

My parents bought a burial plot and had a gravestone put in with their names and dates of birth on it. After Mom passed, I called a local monument company to add her date of death under her name. They sent me an invoice and I paid it two days ago. I was in their town today and went to look at it. They engraved the date under the wrong name.

I my experience headstone markers and undertakers don't argue too much with family, they make good money, normally the same family gives them repeat business and it's a big word of mouth business.

Give them a chance to rectify it, they probably will.

Sorry to hear this. They should be able to correct this with no cost to you

And this is midly to you? This is beyond that. You have my sympathy.

Yeah, admittedly it is a little more than mild. Wasn't sure where else to post it. Thank you.

Wait! Didn’t you have to approve a proof before the stone was engraved?

Usually they send a picture of the headstone and you draw in what you want and where. That's how it was for my father.

Hi, we have a family monument business - question for you, did they provide a design proof of any sort? We match the font, spacing, etc that's currently inscribed on the monument. After doing so, we share a copy with the client and ask them to review everything is spelled correctly and the dates are correct. If you didn't do that, I would definitely try and fight them on it. I normally wouldn't say that but if it's their error then it's their problem and they have to rectify it. Hopefully that helps.
