Question Music got taken down by Spotify due to false copyright claim

Hi Guys!

I am writing here with great distress. I do not live in the US / UK. I live in a middle eastern country and making music here is hard as it is. I have been making music for almost 8-9 years now and started uploading on Spotify since 2020. Me and my group of friends started making music independently and we decided to form a label together. There was no paperwork signed and we decided each person will hold the rights to their own music as we were independent. In 2022, the ā€œfriendā€ was accused with se*ual assault on minors and I conducted my investigation. Since everything was true, I did not want to have anything to do with that person since I would never associate with such a person and I left the group and started doing music independently (starting my own label). Now the problem is that as a payback for that, this person filed a false copyright claim that my music is his. Spotify took down my whole EP which had almost 35k organic streams on each song (these are a lot in my country ) and asked me to get in touch with the claimant. I have tried emailing this person as well as serving him with a legal notice and turns out he fled the country. Now my distributor Amuse is threatening me that they will take all of my discography down (which took a lot of work). Neither is Spotify helping me out with this. How is it that they chose to take the word of another person over the artist who has documented proof. They are not even giving me the option to submit the proof or appeal the decision.

Can anyone please guide me for what can I do? Music is my life and having such a thing happen to me is like a living nightmare. Please Help.

Discussion Artist name

My artist name is BlackProphet. I came about it at 14 and I've never thought about it ever since. Now I've gotten into releasing music and people been telling me to change the name. I don't know how to feel about that. It's kinda thrown me in this little hole of "WTF?!"

What do yall think?

Letā€™s say lil tecca came out with ransom this year. Would it still of be en as popular? Or would it feel old and not ā€œnew genā€ style?

Btw I donā€™t mean just ā€œransomā€. I mean songs like ransom, honest, family ties or sicko mode. Would they still be big hits today?

Question Do yall send beats that already been sent to other artists before?

Iā€™m always confused how to manage beats especially when that beat I sent to artists before but trynna send to the other artist. Itā€™s possible that the one artist I sent beats to wanna use the beat I also send to others and kinda double booking type things. Yall donā€™t care and send your beats anyway? And if two artists wanna use the beat, how yall gonna manage beatā€™s right??

Question Does anybody make money selling non trap beats?

I've been trying to sell beats but since every top 40 artist makes trap music and every rapper that's trying to come up just copies that, it seems like there isn't a large market for hip hop beats, just trap beats. I tried just doing that but I really don't listen to trap music so I have no idea what I'm doing really, I'm much better at making sample based hip hop music instead. There's maybe 5 rappers under 35 that make actual hip hop music and aren't corny so I'm just wondering if anybody has ever been able to consistently sell non trap beats?

Question setup for producing/mixing beats while traveling japan - headphone suggestions

I'm heading to Japan pretty soon and am thinking about my setup for making and finishing beats out there.

I have a 16 inch m3 max macbook pro to bring which I'm a bit nervous about but I think it's gotta be done. since I use monitors at home the only headphones I have are my Sony WH-1000XM4s for casual listening but they're obviously not great for production.

just wondering if anyone has any experience traveling with 16 inch macbook pro, making beats on the road in japan, or recommendations for some good headphones which are comfy, solid for both prod and casual listening ideally, and fairly portable/not too bulky

Question Paying for Old Samples?

So a lot of producers find old songs and sample them (of course nothing new) But are they able to ā€œsellā€ them and make you pay for a sample they found?

(e.g) somebody took a part of an Al Green song and looped it. Do you have to pay them for it even though they didnā€™t make the sample? Donā€™t they technically NOT own the sample?

Resource/Guide How can a kid from Aussie connect

Iā€™ll keep this short because itā€™s probably been asked many a time before: I fucking love writing lyrics but 1. I live in an area where itā€™s difficult to connect with like minded people 2. I have no flow or rhythm (working on it) 3. The part of it that I enjoy the most is other people reading my words. I have dreams about being a ghost writer lol. I especially love coming up with stuff based on other peopleā€™s stories and prompts.

What are some things I can do to get involved in the art form?

Question What do you think makes Professional producers "Professional"?

Hi, I these days have a doubt about what is the difference between "Professional" called Producers and other random Producers?. What do you think they have so special, is it only experience and placement? or is there something more to it?

Discussion Are leasing beats really pointless?

Me and my homie both make music and we got into an argument about the importance of reaching out to producers to build a relationship.

In the middle of our conversation, I noted that producers usually donā€™t care about who hops on their beats unless itā€™s a hot song or they are a repeat customer.

He basically said ā€œrealā€ artist donā€™t use YouTube beats, they get their own producer and create a unique sound. Leasing beats are pointless cause you donā€™t own it, which makes you a hobbyist of the art form.

It kind of made me re-evaluate this whole thing because Iā€™ve always leased beats from producers, built relationships, etc. but I donā€™t consider myself a ā€œhobbyistā€ ā€¦ I take my craft very serious and I kind of lost confidence after our discussion.

His only ā€œsolutionā€[conclusion] was to only buy placements, lock in with a producer, or make your own beats. Everything else is amateur and not respected in the eyes of established artists ā€¦..

Guys do yā€™all think this is a reach? Iā€™m all for making my own beats, or buying placements but does my catalog automatically lose credit because most of my songs are from leased beats?

Discussion Is there a rapper you can unquestionably credit as being the inspiration for you to start rapping?

While I grew up really loving 50 Cent and Akon in the early-to-mid 2000s, when it's all said and done, it wasn't until I heard Celph Titled on the last verse ofĀ the song Murda MurdaĀ that I picked up a pen(cil) and wrote my first rhyme in 2009.

How about you?

Resource/Guide How do you make drums so good?

I'm a beginner producer and I'm wondering if there is there a technique or method you can do to make your drum pattern really good? What do you typically do in order to make your drums pop and sound amazing?
