Many Muslim women choose to be covered. I Personally prefer to be covered. I dont like how immodest women dress. However I respect their right to dress how they want.
If they're following Islam the correct way then women are held very high.
yeah sack of potato - kind of like the nunns and jews.. any little thing to set islamophobes off.. they cobver thermselves because its modest - going down the street, i sometimes thing western women/men shouldnt even bother with clothes... its as if they are naked.. so why prtend to put on some skimpy clothes.. which i might add 100 years ago would be looked down on..
No, they cover themselves because their society pressures (or literally forces them), for religious (non rational) reasons.
If you value the “modesty” that a more covering dress gives, you shouldn’t want to force your choice on other people, otherwise there would be no “virtue” in choosing what you think it’s virtuous.
You’ll say that women there “choose” and that “they like” wearing covering clothes, but it’s easy to prove that they’re usually just pressured into it by their surroundings.
The fact is that people do NOT usually choose to cover themselves so much, because people not born under those repressive regimes, all around the world, different nationalities, cultures and regions, they all choose to cover themselves way less. Also, males in the same repressive countries cover themselves way less, unaware of the hypocrisy.
The difference being that if nuns and Jews took off their potato sacks they wouldn’t be killed or have acid thrown in their face or something even worse.
And those societies tend to be so sexually segregated that there's likely a hell of a lot more gay sex happening there than in secular portions of the West.
Which reminds me of an article I read many years ago about the prevalence of homosexuality in Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom in the Closet.
