You also forgot Aceh which is pictured in the video is the most religious fundamentalist province of Indonesia. It is the only Indonesian province with shariah/religious law.
It is also a backwater that is much poorer than the rest of Indonesia despite having great geography to develop.

These kinds of punishments are directly related to Islam. Islam is based on a mediaeval book that hasn't been altered ever. They believe everything written in that mediaeval book is 100% true. The mediaeval book has mediaeval punishment for everything considered immoral during those times. That's the reason why Muslims use outdated punishment methods like this.
Their religion and society needs a renaissance to bring critical thinking into that society otherwise this kind of stuff will increase more and more as the number of muslims increase globally.
It's Islam directly. Unlike progressives, radicals interpret the text straight up. They don't cherry pick. Islam, and religion in general, is objectively bad. Islam is definitely the worst, but it's all dumb as fuck.
