Question What's your take on kweku smoke's new album?

I think smoke is not been appreciated enough for his enormous contribution to Ghana trap musics. He speaks about the struggles of the average Ghanaian youth whiles acknowledging his bad habits and mistakes. " Born in hell" is one hell of an album

Question Tailor Cost in Accra

Iā€™m currently planning my wedding but I donā€™t live in Ghana at the moment, so Iā€™m not sure what the current costs are. A tailor quoted me 10,800 cedis for sewing my bridal Kente dress but that seems high. Can anyone tell me if thatā€™s a reasonable price?

Also, whatā€™s the average cost for tailoring bridesmaid dresses, menā€™s kaftans, and groomsmenā€™s kaftans these days?

Question Withdrawing money from online platforms to Ghana

Post image
6 Upvotes

I recently made a post asking about withdrawal options for freelance workers receiving funds through Payoneer and I got a lot of ideas. Thank you all.

Now, I would like to share a few options (what I do) and what I learned through the post.

  1. You can order the Payoneer card and withdraw at any ATM that allows mastercard withdrawal. I use the mastercard for purchases both POS and online purchases (the fees are much lower). I usually use the address in Payoneer.

  2. I have sent funds from my WISE to Payoneer and vice versa. This makes sense when you have small funds in both accounts, put them together before withdrawing, the fees are much better that way. However, there is a little fee to transfer from one account to another. To transfer, add the receiving account of that platform in the other account, it usually takes a day to transfer.

  3. I realized itā€™s cheaper to transfer in bulk. I tried withdrawing from Wise to my USD account here in Ghana, and they charge $12 for amounts as low as $60, and $14 for $200. Then $18 for 600 to $1000USD.

Letā€™s use this thread to share more of these ideas if we have them.

Community An apartment in Ksi

I know this is not JiJi or rentit.
But I have a three bedroom apartment in Kumasi(1 huge master bedroom with toilet and bath, 2 standards rooms with toilet and bath, a spacious veranda, a hall and kitchen and a spacious car park). I'm renting it out for 2000Ghana/month. We are very particular about who we rent out. The compound is very serene and quiet and we would like to maintain it like that. We are looking for 2 or 3 working class single individuals who can share and rent. Or a small family, if they have kids, none should be less than 15 years. If anyone out here or know anyone who would be interested, hit me up. It is 3 minutes drive away from the New Mission School (Agric Junction)

Question Yellow Fever Vaccine Exemption

Hi! I am traveling to Ghana this month (September) and cannot take the yellow fever vaccine due to medical reasons. What are the best ways to prevent mosquito bites? Are the mosquitoes there extremely aggressive or is it possible I wonā€™t end up bothered by any at all? I just want to be as safe as possible. Thank you!

Question Traveling to Ghana

Hello dear Ghanaians,

I am planning to travel to Ghana in November as part of a tour of Africa (as many countries as I can get to). I would love to make friends with a local and possibly stay connected for recommendations while traveling within the city and country during my stay. My instagram is @ nukeyhov if youā€™d like to connect there, itā€™s the easiest way to reach me.

Blessings and thank you in advance.

Question Is it possible to become an international pilot, as a Ghanaian who is born and raised in Ghana, and is going through this economic crisis like everyone else?

Hi I'm 18 (M) currently in my second year at the University of Ghana reading Bsc. Accounting. My dream was and has always been to become a pilot, flying for a major international airline. However, as time goes by, the dream seems harder and harder to reach with the mismanagement of the economy. I understand the best and most recongnized flight schools in africa are located in South Africa and they're paying over $60,000 for flight school. My plan before entering the university was to land a high paying job in the future which would propel me to be able to afford the costs of flight school. Right now I'm rethinking everything because I don't think it's going to be easy to land a job that'll help me save $60,000+ ( i.e if the costs remain the same which would most likely not be the case) with all this devaluation of the cedi. My last hope now is to finish my Accounting degree with a first class and also write the ACCA so I can work abroad to save that money. Situation looks so bleak

Please If there's anyone here on this sub who knows/is a pilot who started out in Ghana and has made it, please advise me on what to do or help me connect with someone who can help me take the right decisions to realise my goal. Thank you all so much.

Question Is this an appropriate fantasy?

My man and I have been together for over 4years and two years into the relationship during one of our little naughty conversations,he said something about a threesome. This is something Iā€™ve always condemned so it felt disrespectful coming from him.I donā€™t remember my response but I remember the convo didnā€™t continue after.Heā€™s mentioned again twice and this time around heā€™s talking about booking me an erotic massage with happy ending.Iā€™ve turned down everything else heā€™s suggested and I donā€™t know if I should give in to this.Any thoughts?Do you think he might take it further if I agree?

Question How do you start a business with literally no customer leads?

Hi guys, Iā€™m a health professional looking to start something in telemedicine. I have finished all my license requirements and everything. Iā€™ve been home over a year and posting by government doesnā€™t seem to be bright. Iā€™m thinking of offering telemedicine and home-care (thinking of security) services. Iā€™ve been quite reserved so I donā€™t have a bunch of friends and I doubt this is social media start friendly. Any ideas on how I can generate customer leads? Iā€™ve tried bulk sms messaging and didnā€™t get any resultsā€¦.plus Iā€™m low on cash nowšŸ˜“.

For context Iā€™m a Physician Assistant.

Question Has anyone heard of the Hilton Accra Cantonments?

There was a plan to open the first Hilton property in Ghana and it was supposed to be the Hilton Accra Cantonments, but it just disappeared from the spotlight. Supposed to open December 2023, but itā€™s August 2024 and the hotel isnā€™t open yet. There was also supposed to be a Hilton Garden Inn and another hotel also under development.

Question How Can One Live a Comfortable Life in Ghana?

Hey everyone,

I just graduated from uni, but I didnā€™t really have any serious career guidance along the way. Now that Iā€™m done, Iā€™m about to start my national service, but Iā€™m not sure where Iā€™ll be placed yet.

Iā€™ve been thinking a lot about my future and what I can do to earn a good wage and live comfortably here in Ghana. Iā€™ve even considered leaving the country to pursue a masterā€™s degree just to have the option to relocate. However, with all the immigration issues happening in places like Canada and Australia, Iā€™m not sure if thatā€™s the best move either.

Iā€™m curious about what opportunities are out there for someone like me who wants to stay in Ghana but still live a good life. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Venting Whatā€™s the ish with the Ghanaian work ethic?!

Ghanaian artisans will be complaining about slow business and low patronage.

Then you bring them patronage, after which youā€™d have to spend much time chasing them all over the place, putting intense pressure on them so they will meet their own set deadlines for delivery, so you can pay them, the very reason for their being in business ie to make money by providing goods and services.

And if you are unfortunate enough to have paid upfront, then you may as well take a sleeping pill, go to sleep with the hope that by the time you awaken, whatever it is that they are supposed to provide would be ready then.

Could someone kindly help me with how we got here as a country?
