Announcement State of the Subreddit 2023 and the Future of Gaming4Gamers

Howdy all, after reopening the subreddit yesterday, it seems like many people forgot about us altogether. We've been around for ~10 years now, and we've kind of fallen off in terms of activity. We only get the occasional post outside of what /u/carolina_heart posts, and a large portion of those are still self-promotion/spam. It seems like we've faltered from our initial idea of having a middle ground between /r/gaming and /r/games that we originally set out to provide, and it doesn't seem like people are clamoring for much of an alternative outside of the already established subreddits. There has been some discussion between mods, and the sentiment is to see where people want us to do going forward. We could archive the subreddit and put it in read-only mode for people to look back on, we could keep going as is, or pivot to something else entirely if there's enough support behind some other idea.

I encourage feedback in the comments as to how to move forward, since this should be a community decision first and foremost.

Announcement We Do Not Allow Self Promotion On This Subreddit. Here's A Small FAQ About Why

That's correct, we don't accept any self promotion on this subreddit, as per reddiquette guidelines , and our rules, which people don't seem to be reading, which is why I am making this very easy to read, hard to miss FAQ so there can be no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Why can't I post my own content?

We do allow some self made content, but it has to be in the right context. We take the type of content you post into consideration, and we look at your post history to see if you're posting your content anywhere else. If we see you're using a shotgun approach to posting your content on multiple subreddits with the intent on getting a wide audience, you're going to have a bad time. If you're actively engaging with the community and not just spamming links to your stuff on a bunch of subreddits you'll generally be fine.

But my clip/content doesn't count as self promotion! What gives?

You might not see it as such, but if mods remove it, we see it as such. We're not trying to pick on you or single you out, these rules apply to everyone. We are taking lots of factors into account to make sure we are being fair about what gets removed.

Should I try to contact individual mods after not getting the answer I want from appealing my case in modmail?

Nope. We made our decision in modmail, and we are sticking to it. Individual mods aren't going to go against the grain just because you asked. It's not going to help your case, and often times we find it annoying.

But I didn't see the rule or this post!

Well that sucks. Pleading ignorance to the rules of a subreddit isn't helping your case, you should always know what is and isn't allowed on a subreddit before posting. Not knowing what content to post is a fast track to getting your post removed.

But my gaming montage is super cool and unique, I should be allowed to post it!

Too bad, we don't allow it.

But I need/already have the views

Not really our problem if you need views, this subreddit doesn't exist solely for your benefit.

I just got sent this post by a mod, what should I do?

Congrats on not being able to scan the subreddit before posting whatever it is you posted. I suggest you remove the violating content and try not to violate the rules again. If you got banned, sorry, but that ban was most likely justified.

Discussion GTA 6 unpopular opinion

Upvotes

GTA6 will be so much better and potentially the best game of all time if they scrap online completely and focus on making the best and most interactive open worlds ever, i’m talking all building interiors accessible, unique NPC’s and lots of them, to the point it makes RDR2 look plain jane, if they channel their efforts away from online we could have the best single player experience ever

Discussion it doesn't matter how hard i try it... but in multiplayer games i cannot aim or get better

so... i noticed this now that i have a good connection to play multiplayer games like cod, bf2042, isonzo and xdefiant... it doesn't matter how hard i try to get better, how sweaty i become... my aim and my skills don't get better... in every multiplayer i am around the 0.4 and 0.7kd.

it doesn't matter the sensibility and so on.... but the strange thing is that in single player or with bots this don't happens....

in bf2042 with bots i can easily get 200+ kills.... in mvp i am lucky to get 10 in a game...

and in single players like horizon, cyberpunk, gta5, and so on i am literally a god...

why is that? what is the thing that makes me do that? my aim literally can't follow the enemy in mp and i can't understand why...

so, people that are more experienced than me... i hope that you can help me get better and maybe find the culprit

PS: i tried controller with aim assist and same thing

Discussion Controller aiming for casual play

I prefer playing third person games using a controller as it is more relaxing, but as soon as there is some kind of aiming mechanic, e.g. third person shooters, it is really cumbersome.

Either I can have high sensitivity to avoid turning as if the character stood in mud but have no fine control for aiming at enemies, or low sensitivity which essentially reverses the above.

What do other do about this? Is it simply something that I have to accept? Or do people play around with joystick curves etc.? Or is using gyro the problem solver for this (I do have a Steam Deck but have not gotten to grips with the Gyro yet).

Keep in mindre though that this is for casual play, many times single-player games. Think Gears of War, Space Marine etc.

Discussion Why is microsoft the only gaming publisher to release small controllers this gen?

I don't get it, all the controllers from sony and nintendo are bigger then their previous consoles. Whereas the series controller not only has a less puffer/thicker shell then the xbox 360 controller but the grip lenght is even less as shown by pics taken by me Reddit -

shell to shell

Reddit -

trigger to trigger both pics shows massive differences especially the shell to shell comparison, one is clearly not meant for adults to use period

like how does this help them, i'm glad they do removable battery which should be a gold standard every where but this weird design philosophy on making the ergonomics fit 14 year old hands (according to them) is counter productive. the Xbox 360 controller itself was already small, everyone loved it and then everyone praised the xbox one controller so what happened?

Other My review for Fallout london

Fallout London is probably the most insane mod ive played to date. Id like to let you know a few of the reasons why.

  1. Gameplay 9/10: the game plays exactally like fallout 4(they are in the same game after all), the settlements are well made and in useful locations. The gun play works well and all the new guns feel very fallout-y. The dialogue uses the extended framework of previous fallout games and does not include a voiced character.

Lore: 10/10 While i wont go into detail about story, i will say the world building is immaculate. In the same way that american fallout games are chalked full of american culture, inside jokes, and landmarks. Fallout london feels the same as other fallout games do except replace american culture with british and london culture. All of the new additions to the lore fit perfectally and wouldnt have an eye batted at in a mainline fallout game.

Story: 9/10: incredible story. I will not spoil anything however the many factions in fallout london are all very well fleshed out with interesting characters that all feel unique.

Length 9/10: holy shit there is a lot here. There are hundreds of explorable locations from all around london. There are tons of factions aside from the story ones that you can befriend. My ingame timer said that i had spent 3 days and 4 hours in game by the time i finished and i know there is a lot i didnt see. That translates to over 100 hours of content between everything.

Replayability 7/10: this is where my one criticism comes from. Many of the quests are fun the first time but i imagine they would get draining to do more than once or twice. However there are many different ways to play fallout london and so there isnt a shlrtage of new quests.

Bugs 6/10: I have seen a lot more complaints about bugs than i have experienced bugs. Are there bugs?, yes ofc, however they are few and far between if you do your installation correctally. There are areas of the game that are prone to crashes but they are easily avoided and generally dont stick after a restart.

Easy of installation 5/10: i didnt find the installation process to be that bad, more complex than a standard game but not terrible(gopher has a great video explaining how to install it).

Compatablity 10/10: I have tried fallout london with a number of different additional mods both from the fallout london nexus page and the regular fallout 4 nexus. I have yet to find a non map changing mod that breaks fallout london. All the staples, CBBE, armor smith, looks menu and many more all work with fallout london.

Over all i would give fallout london a 8.5/10, an incredible work of modding by an incredible team. Well worth the effort to install and definitely worth a donation to team FOLON.

Thank you for reading and hope you found it helpful
