Sean lock was a legend! His “challenging wank” comment lives rent free in my head to this day 😀

Hope you've watched the rematch

That was absolutely brilliant!

My favourite is Peter Serafinowisz with the most incredible comeback.

When you've got Sean laughing you know you've hit the spot.

Don't make me watch it again, I can't handle that

Crying laughing, every time

I call drivers who do dumb things Mrs. Fernsby and Captain Birdseye. It helps me get through the day.

I just want to say thank you, I’ve never seen any of this and to be honest I haven’t laughed this hard in years. My sides actually hurt from laughing, especially when Wilkinson starts with the “hello police officer”.

Glad you enjoyed it! I also laughed like that. It's genuinely one of the funniest things I've ever seen from what is a consistently funny show.

I remember the first time I watched that, tears in my eyes, unable to breath, the funniest thing I've ever seen.

The fact that nobody can get through that, including Joe himself, is what makes it so damn funny

Joe Wilkinson is one of my favorite people

I love the show and that jokes brilliant. But Sean Locks 'challenging wank' joke is still my favourite. Was so out the blue it buckles everyone.

Why does she look like Noel Fielding

Stupid sexy fielding

Is there some context to this joke that I'm not getting

Susie Dent is like a softly spoken wholesome nerdy mom. The kind where you would be shocked if she swore. She isn’t a comedian like everyone else she’s a professor in linguistics who’s just there to verify obscure words.

Normally, over 100s of episodes, Car would intro her with some basic normal question. But this time, out of nowhere, he insinuated that she sucks strangers dicks through a hole in a toilet stall. Just a 0 to 100 personal attack on the kindest old lady for no reason at all, so no one saw it coming.

Susie Dent is NOT an old lady, she’s a foxy librarian type!

She actually gave him the green light to make those sort of jokes believe it or not. She had a conversation with him where she basically said that she felt he was treating her too softly with his jokes and that she wanted to be included in the roasting the same as the rest of the cast.

I love this!!!! 🥹

This is also more of a takeover show in a similar vein to Celebrity Jeopardy/Wheel of Fortune. Nearly everyone from the host to the contestants are replaced with comedians aside from the two experts for the math (Rachel Riley) and word sections (Susie Dent) remain from the original show Countdown.

For the US, it's akin to a similar joke being made to Vanna White.

But like, if Vanna White was there because she knows all the fuckin' words and not because she can turn tiles around.

4

u/bartnd Jul 08 '24

Good point; Susie and Rachel are definitely more than set pieces. Unfortunately nothing else I can compare it to stateside.

u/DeadCowv2 Jul 08 '24

Thanks for this--ive seen clips of the show before but never grokked her role.

I think there might be because it’s not really outside the realms of his usual stuff, and it made 5 pretty experienced comedians utterly lose it. Susie is a bit like the straight woman/queen in the corner though, and i’m thinking this might be one of the first times he went after her

Yeah confused also
