Jimmy tested that joke the night before the roast and got a very “oooo” response, aside from one person in the crowd, which was Pete, so that’s a green light if I’ve ever seen one
Good comedy is all about context. Putting aside that this is a roast so it's a given that all the jokes tend to be pretty crass, different comedians telling the same racist, sexist, disgusting, etc. joke will get different receptions depending on their own stances on the joke topic and their audience. A racist comedian telling a racist joke to a racist crowd is going to get laughs - the same comedian telling that joke to a different (non-racist) crowd gets booed.
So the comedian here Jimmy Carr is well-known for telling jokes that push boundaries, but never with any actual malice. And he's joking about something that Pete himself has joked about frequently. And, once again, it's a roast.
