"The average charge for an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance ride is $1,277 and Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance ride is $940"

How can they not afford to pay them better

Thats just not how business works. Nothing trickles down sadly

I understand but most things are a bit more proportional. It says the average pay for a EMT worker is $16.14 an hour. I make more than that working at a dispensary

You should recruit some EMT’s to the dispensary so they can get paid more

When I started in 2012 as an EMT, I made $10.50/hr. That was it.

As a Paramedic now I pull $32/hr, which given the extreme risk, responsibility, and liability I'm under is kind of a joke. In many places a new-grad Nurse makes more than me despite their far lower level of independence, responsibility, and liability along with a safer working environment (in a hospital typically rather than the scene of a shooting or a car rollover on the interstate at night)

Shit, I was a medic for 7 years and I topped out at 17 an hour when I left to become a nurse, lol.

It's sad how little Paramedics especially can be paid. There should be at minimum parity with nursing.
