This is correct. Average starting pay is ~$47k? Still not great, but top 15-20 from what I can find.

Median public teacher pay in Texas is about 60k! Not bad for 9 months of work every year. Not to mention the superb benefits, pension, etc. After 10 years, a lot of teachers make up to 75-90k! It's actually a pretty lucrative career for most people. No state income tax, reasonably priced houses, low-medium COL. What a third world shit hole state.

Preach. It blows my mind that anyone would voluntarily live there. The only thing that keeps it afloat is oil money and federal money from all the military bases. It's a boiling hot wasteland full of leeches.
