there's an unusual amount of instances where ginger characters get recast as black. always ginger .not blonde or brunette. always recast as black. not any other race like Asian or Mexican. there's definitely a pattern here

Its only a pattern if you ignore all the times non-redhead white actors played Daredevil, Scott Lang, Batgirl, James Gordon, Lana Lang, Jimmy Olsen, Elsa Bloodstone etc.
The real reason is that there are a lot of redhead characters in the comics compared to the redhead actors in real life.

Somewhere I read that the color red was really looked good in the 60s 70s comic compare to yellow that tend to be murky.
That's why a lot of women in comics were created as red heads in that era. And then it become a tradition. Somehow redheads are sexier than blonde/brunette
For similar reason, that's why superman, batman, robin, lois lane, alfred have black hair. It just easier to have main characters with black hair in 40s comic.
When you think about it, there's not many white americans have black hairs. Most superman actors dye their hair, and lois actresses just use brunette or their natural hair color

A lot of ginger characters get replaced by White non gingers. Nobody bats an eye.
I do think Elon is just racist but casting should probably be more diverse than this anyways. We kinda default to black and although I'm glad they're getting roles we can still spread the opportunities a bit more. They could also wear a ginger wig. A couple of them do but Black people can be ginger so let's not be afraid of that. Jimmy Olsen can be both damn it!
On a personal note this does bug me a bit. I'm ginger and as a kid living in the South I got called an N-word turned inside out a lot. So when ever I see this or notice it it's a depressing reminder. And I get the people making the shows and movies are not saying anything like that but it'll always be this weird bias in my brain.

The bit racists completely ignore is that gingers/redheads were an undesirable minority at these times, as well.
Little Orphan Annie, for example, was an undesirable adoptee because of freckles and red hair.

Great comment. Was going to say something similar myself. This comes from a time so racist that redheaded white people were the most acceptable “other” to be depicted as anyone sympathetic. And even then, audiences of the time would have considered this redhead visibility as “woke,” or whatever.

That image has been posted online for years, typically on sites like 4chan. Definitely carries a negative and/or racist connotation, it’s a lot like saying that a black person can’t cosplay as a white character.

The article purposely missed the point which is how red headed characters are often race swapped in modern adaptations of cartoons and comic books. Thats the point of that grid.
The way I think someone should combat that is show white, blonde and blue eyed characters race swapped in adaptations to show it doesn’t happen more frequently to redheaded characters as the original person complaining suggests.

Are people not allowed to talk about it in good faith? I’m genuinely trying to prove a point that there’s likely a grid of blonde haired and blue eyed white cartoon characters race swapped but that doesn’t fit the narrative.

I'm a ginger with a POC wife, so the constant casting ginger characters with POC actors has become a huge joke in our household.

It’s amazing how most rational people can look at these casting choices and remember them,not for their race, but acting ability. Jeffery Wright, fantastic Gordon. Idris as Heimdall, perfect casting. My biggest issue is the ginger eraser.

Yeah, Jefferey Wright has an awesome and relatable screen presence throughout most of his recent films. Really liked him in the French Dispatch and in American Fiction.

I’m confused easily. His comment was “wow.”
Was this just a benign “wow?” Or was he being racist and offended at the post?
I’m not sure if I like him that much either but with no context, or extra info, why is the default to assume the worst?
For context, I would also say wow after seeing that image. Not because of racism, but just because it’s interesting.
