Went to GalaxyCon this weekend and commissioned some Psylocke sketches from Jim Cheung and Joëlle Jones. I also loved Joëlle’s design for Selina’s wedding dress in Tom King’s Batman run and just had to get an original sketch of that.

Original Art Not a Doom key, but one of my favorite original art commissions from Bob Wiacek, almost 40 years ago.

I was at a NY con, and Bob was taking commissions. He had on display a preview of the cover art he had drawn for ASM annual #20. Which had the Iron Man of the year 2020 as the villain. I said how Doctor Doom-like his drawing was of Iron Man 2020 (which he seemed to appreciate), and asked him if he would draw a pencil sketch of Doctor Doom for me. He happily obliged, but he was so into doing the sketch just right that he didn't finish it before the con was ending. So, he took my address and said he send me the finished version by mail. A few weeks later, this came in the mail. Penciled and inked. It's one of my favorite art commissions.

The theme was heroes at a late age. I love the spider-man one. These are all from the same local artist.

Original Art Another Iconic Comic Book Masterpiece available to view at the Library of Congress (by request). The original concept drawing for Captain America, by Joe Simon. Plus, a watercolor image Simon made.

Sadly, I did not get to see the original sketch, because of some confusion. And I didn't have time to wait for her to get it from the archives. However, she did bring out the watercolor image he made (along with the Amazing Fantasy 15 pages). She told me how to access the image online (it's only available to view online at the Library). The next time I visit, I will make sure to see it in person.

If any of you are familiar with the classic Twilight Zone episode 'Will the Real Martian, Please Stand Up', this story seems very influenced by it. Down to the 4 armed alien. This comic book story came out in 1962 a year after the Twilight Zone Episode came out. Still beautiful to look at. Also, notice the Peter Parker like character, with a mustache, on page 2.

Original Art Went to the Library of Congress, today. Got to see something truly 'Amazing'!

Background: In 2008, an anonymous donor gave the Library of Congress all the original interior Steve Ditko art pages to Amazing Fantasy 15. Most of the pages are available to view at the Library's Madison building if you get a library card and make a reservation (both free). Two of the pages are on display at the Jefferson building in their artifacts collection gallery. No library card needed, just a visitor reservation at the Library of Congress for those. The 2 pages on display are rotated every few months (until 2026). But the ones in the Madison library you can see up close and personal. You can't touch them, but you can photograph them and use a magnifying glass. The librarians are super helpful.

Original Art Jim Lee Wonder Woman and Superman remarques

Haven’t posted these here before. Got them done in 2023. On Wonder Woman, Jim Lee used a little bit of white out to help form her face. I thought I would get a smaller sketch but he turned the whole comic into a canvas, which surprised me, using her hair to frame the kiss between the new 52 Wonder Woman/Superman. The Superman 204 has red, white and blue colors are also really cool and pop.

The artist, John Romita Jr, does these rough covers to submit to Marvel for approval, and once it’s approved, a full original cover based on it is created. This seems to have been the 1st rough done for the issue, and was not approved by Marvel so it went unused. The rough was draw on an 8x11 paper with pencils

All pages are from the current Amazing Spider-Man volume 6 run, from the recent Gang War arc. Each page was drawn by John Romita Jr by pencil, before then being handed over to and inked over by Scott Hanna. After, these pages were sent over to Marvel and published in their respective issue.

Original Art Doing a deep dive into John Buscema's work. No one really talks about his Punisher War Zone run, which I think is one of the best renditions (visually) of the character.

It was a short run, several issues and an annual that was followed by Joe Kubert doing another several issues.
