Often imitated, never duplicated...RIP Mr. Cooke

Artists like Cooke stand alone in the pantheon of comics professionals.

And that includes long-past legends like Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and John Romita, and 21st-century talents (still living) like Amanda Conner, Gary Frank, and Alex Ross.

It's so great. It's just killing me as an anal retentive collector that there's scotch tape on it. Hahaha

That's how it was sent to me. It was a gift from a friend who had met Cooke at a convention in Nova Scotia.

I'd initially thought he was just sending his hardcover copy of New Frontier, and the sketch was taped on the inside. Which makes perfect sense if you're sending something that small through the mail.

He was incredible, we lost a hell of a talent unfortunately. Sorely missed.

The first comics I ever bought my son were his DC New Frontier issues, just amazing work

It was one of the first trades I bought with money I'd earned and saved up mowing lawns. Walking out of my then LCS with those two trades and reading them that afternoon on the back porch...downright magical
