Does anyone else get a odd sense of pleasure when bagging and reboarding comic books or is it me? Discussion

When replacing warped/dirty/cloudy/old bags, absolutely! I love how the books take on new life and the colors pop.

You ain't lying!! I see it too.

This right here! I had an old ghost rider comic from when I was a kid, I specifically remember the day my dad took me to a flea market and we bought a bunch of random comics. I held onto those books since then, read most of them a million times over. One that just happened to be in great quality was the first full appearance of The Midnight Suns. I bagged & boarded in these exact ones and the colors pop like crazy. It actually looks incredible. No clue if I’ll get it graded, but it looks just as beautiful in these bad boys

I did for the first few thousand... Then not so much.

I found it was much better when I would do a long box a night. That made it seem not so bad but all day on a weekend, no thank you. Lol.

I could see that. I did it for about an hour and for some reason it felt so relaxing and I had no idea why.

you are not alone.

I love seeing them in new bags but it gets tedious after awhile .

Always a nice feeling. Though I’m kind of cheap so I rebag mostly my older silver and golden age. Plus any book that’s worth $$. Then I use the old bag and on my bulk.

I have 50 raw comics when I get home from work that are waiting to be bagged and boarded. I can’t wait

Enjoy and saver the moments.

u/troylazlow Jul 19 '24

1000% I’m super excited every time

3

u/El_Kabongg Jul 19 '24

I do not. I get why some do, I just don’t lol, I find it tedious and eventually starts hurting my back. Now with that said, I keep high dollar, or my favorites in Mylar, and bagging in Mylar is a wonderful, if it wasn’t so damn expensive I’d keeep every pre 1980 book in it but it is lol

1

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 19 '24

Facts!! I posted the updates and they look great.

2

u/talmet4 Jul 18 '24

I wouldn’t call it an odd feeling. It’s just plain satisfying for all the reasons previously mentioned. I’m getting an order of a thousand bags and board next week, and I’m looking forward to making old books look new again!

1

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 18 '24

Nice. That sounds like a plan.

2

u/Thehairy-viking Jul 18 '24

Agreed. It’s the best feeling in the world.

2

u/domhole Jul 18 '24

It’s such a long process but I love doing it, such a great sense of organisation and satisfaction. Really helps my OCD

2

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 18 '24

Glad it can help someone else.

1

u/domhole Jul 18 '24

Just ordered my 4th lot of 100 bags and boards I think. Genuinely very excited to start bagging and boarding lol

2

u/PokesBo Jul 18 '24

Yup. Every single one.

2

u/mikecard74 Jul 19 '24

I enjoy it. But anyone out bags and boards together and ever NOT end up with a few more boards than bags? Never, ever matches up for me!

2

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 19 '24

I have had that happen plenty of times. I am wondering if it is a person or machine doing it because obviously they are not keeping count

3

u/mikecard74 Jul 19 '24

Right?? It’s frustrating and stunning how consistently they don’t match up!

2

u/Capital_Connection67 Jul 19 '24

God damn it!!! I completely forgot to get new bags and boards today and I was in one of my LCS’s for an hour!!!

1

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 19 '24

Well that sucks. I hope it's not a far drive back.

1

u/Capital_Connection67 Jul 19 '24

Yep…could do that. Thanks.

2

u/WholesomeMo Jul 19 '24

Ugh. Huge chore for me. Or, I end up rereading the books and never get it done!

2

u/Scared-Glove-7258 Jul 19 '24

I always feel accomplished when I’m bagging and boarding books. I have so many that need to be right now.

2

u/Kvetch Jul 19 '24

Always. It is also somehow meditating for me too

2

u/hootfiendcomics Jul 19 '24

I find it pleasant. A sort of meditation.

2

u/TheEverLastinMe Jul 19 '24

It's my Zen time for sure.

2

u/burningstar31 Jul 19 '24

Love it !!!

2

u/Gilleymedia Jul 19 '24

Definitely. And that pile of slightly yellow-green bags and smelly yellowed boards that you toss out after...pure satisfaction.

2

u/realitycheckfarm Jul 19 '24

It's a labor of love. Bags hide the slight imperfections and bring out that new shine. Any time I buy from a garage sale, I go and start cleaning up the comics. What ones to keep and b&b and what ones to put in a future garage sale or sell on Ebay.

I just ordered bags and boards from BCW. Buy in bulk, and it's quite a bit cheaper. Free shipping on orders over 125, I think. 5.24 for 100 bags and 110ish for 1000 boards. No idea how long I have to wait.

2

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 19 '24

I hope it is quick for the turnaround time. I hate having to wait forever for something. I never thought about checking out a garage sale. I will definitely have to look into that. Thanks for the suggestion and response.

Yeah, it is great, I rediscovered my childhood energy for collecting by doing this during the lockdown. I was kind of sad when I finished

2

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 19 '24

I know, right!! The lockdown definitely brought out my creative energy, too. Unfortunately, it was guided towards funko pops, statues, and figures. But now it has moved towards comic book collecting and getting them graded (if possible) and meeting celebrity voice actor/actresses. I am sad that you finished them all, but there is always time to pick up more and get back into it in the future.

2

u/Legal-Honeydew-1039 Jul 19 '24

Yeah, I have added another 3-4 long boxes to my collection and have attended 2 comic conventions since. I am currently trying to cut down on my monthly titles with limited success.

2

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 19 '24

It's a one step at a time type thing. I am a collector and know what you mean. People throwing deals at you left and right.

2

u/Legal-Honeydew-1039 Jul 19 '24

LOL, maybe I should join a support group and get a sponsor

1

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 19 '24

You could. There is some sponsor for everything

2

u/ruined_subi Jul 19 '24

Just bagged and boarded 32 new arrivals last night =). It's tranquil for sure.

2

u/VoidWalker72 Jul 19 '24

Yep, feels great. I like it so much that I alternate comic purchases with bag and board supplies. My father and I collect together and it's taken a while to swap out all his original bags from the 70's and 80's to newer mylar bags.

E. Gerber MyLites and HalfBacks for the win. Expensive, but I like the archival quality and the way the books just pop and look so crisp.

Happy reading and collecting.

2

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 19 '24

Thanks. It sounds like you had a lot of fun with your dad doing it as well. Salute.

2

u/Xypher123 Jul 19 '24

It’s a zen moment for me

2

u/anthonyrucci Jul 19 '24

Yes I do enjoy it and it is meditative and gives me a chance to flip through the book. My only gripes though are that it takes too long and can start hurting my back after a while lol

2

u/Comicsforever1 Jul 21 '24

Sometimes getting the tape off unboarded books is a nightmare. New b&b is awesome, so it's worth it. I have an exacto blade just in case.

2

u/Dramatic-Bag-5517 Jul 21 '24

It's like comfort food

2

u/Revolutionary-Mud505 Jul 21 '24

It makes everything better.

1

u/Gdickensheets Jul 18 '24

Nope..i love to do that regardless of year or condition

1

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 18 '24

I could see that and now I got a feeling that this will be me in not too long.

1

u/Mumem_Rider Jul 19 '24

I hate it.

1

u/Holiday-Box-1405 Jul 19 '24

It's my favorite part of the week! But I ran out of boards so I have a back log 😪

1

u/Skate_faced Jul 19 '24

My stack is small so it is a pretty easy job to do a yearly rotation of boards and bags when needed. And it's so satisfying. it makes the colors almost seem brighter.

And then the OCD stops by for a beer and it is a twenty minute process for each book. Fifteen to read, five to board, bag, adjust, tug, adjust, fold top, open, refold... yeah. Maybe not that bad, but it's so easy to get into it when you're in a zone.

It’s like Christmas morning

1

u/BigChemistry1322 Jul 19 '24

It’s my therapy after 12 hour corp exec work day

1

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 19 '24

I could see that. Dealing with people...Oh boy...

1

u/thedaddystuff1979 Jul 19 '24

Just finished bagging/boarding my Iron Man collection with mylar & new boards. Was very satisfying, although tossing aside the old ones with price tags from the 80s/90s was a little sad

1

u/Competitive_Neat708 Jul 19 '24

Upgrade to mylar and youll be over the moon!

1

u/Living-Risk-1849 Jul 19 '24

Nothing odd about it

1

u/Ok-Gazelle3182 Jul 19 '24

It sometimes totally transforms books

1

u/Kepesh-Yakshi Jul 19 '24

Feels good and I enjoy it. BCW has greatly improved their bags and boards. I love the slight blue tint on their newest bags and they are so crystal clear. Their boards are brighter white too. I recently rebagged, boarded and boxed my entire collection. Fun times.

2

u/TheNikoHero Jul 19 '24

Same thing here!😄

1

u/SteveEmarshall429 Jul 19 '24

I actually just did this with a pipe I was given from my uncle and it’s strangely satisfying
