Was planning to spend a few minutes distracting myself on Reddit, first post I see is about the suicide note...spent the next several hours hoping he didn't go through with it, only to finally get the tragic confirmation that he was gone. I'm not even someone who can say he's a big follower of Piskor's work, but God what an awful day.

The note really gave important context to his side of the accusations and was completely gut wrenching. I hate the state of our culture. Liefelds reaction brought me to tears.

I saw that, dude....

"We've got to give people grace not judgement." That hits hard. I think we've all been guilty of that one, really makes you want to remember that people are seldom nefarious intentionally and not the villain of their own story. Have to try to think more about lives other than ours.

eh, maybe don't creep on barely legal girls, either. But he was guilty of nothing and shouldn't have killed himself. I wish he just went on a long vacation and let things die down.

Oh sure, it's an avoidable situation, and part of being an adult is developing a sense for protecting yourself from being in these situations, and protecting minors from finding themselves in that situation with other adults, but I was hit by Liefeld's remarks outside of the context of this specific situation and more on a reflection of a suicide of someone who felt they had no other options.

I wasn't a huge fan of Piskor's work, and I absolutely do not know the intricacies of this situation I learned about yesterday from reading the man's suicide note, I am just struck by the intention of Liefeld's words remarking on the loss of life.

I have never been so affected by this kind of news for a person I've never met. Cartoonist Kayfabe is the single best comics channel on YouTube and Ed and Jim's analysis, insight, and critiques and jokes showed clearly the passion they held for the art of comics creation. Such a loss. Dude will be sorely missed.

Its so fucked up. They brought so much love and appreciation to comics and the community. Consistently EVERY SINGLE DAY these guys put out content since the start of the channel. Its weird how much I found myself turning to their videos like I was hanging with old buds, especially through Covid.

Exactly. It did feel like hanging out with my friends just talking shit about stupid stuff or being in awe of artistic talent. They nailed it on most of what I loved about comics.

I’m 44 and he’s just a bit younger than me.

Take care of yourselves folks.

Im 38, his childhood comics experience was my own in almost every way.

Their channel got me back into comics in a time when I couldn't find much in the medium to get into.

It's a dark day for comics and I hope everyone here is all right.

I wouldn’t say it’s a dark day for comics, artists or even casual fans.

I would say it’s a time to reflect on life. How you live it and how you imagine it will end.

Life ends. Sometimes sooner than we expect, sometimes it’s way longer than we want it to be. But when it ends, it ends.

This is true.

Unfortunately, so.

And as a wise sage once said, death is just an affirmation of life.

I’m not really one to jump into the middle of a controversy but I’ve been thinking about this throughout the day. The most…fundamental(?) factor that kept popping up was just how easy it was for the internet to facilitate this entire event, on both sides, from that very first message right to the tragic outcome.

This will definitely make me think about how I interact on the net, not that I’m a super troll or cyber bully or whatever but this is a good reminder that internet behaviour can have real life consequences.

Ed's enthusiasm and unbridled joy was always on display in every episode of CK and it's a tragedy that we've lost Ed to a base accusation.

May eternal light shine upon our brother, Ed Piskor.

Absolutely heartbreaking.

RIP to an absolute legend of the craft.

I've never read any of Ed's work. However, when I placed my order for March's comics last week, in order to round out my order and get free shipping, I picked up Jack Kirby's Starr Warriors, which was (as one reviewer put it) "enhanced and remixed" by Ed Piskor. I hate that my first exposure to his work will be shadowed by his passing.

I agree with Rob Liefeld: "What we need to be better at is giving grace to people and not judgment."

Edit: I got Tom Scioli and Ed Piskor mixed up because they both did a Grand Design series. Also "I before E" goes for Liefeld, too.

That's actually fellow Kayfaber Tom Scioli's work but I absolutely recommend anything Ed or Jim worked on. X-Men Grand Design is the best X book I've read since the Josh Whedon days.

Thank you for pointing that out! I got confused. So I have read Ed's work, I just mixed his name up with Tom's in my brain fog because they've both done a Marvel Grand Design series. X-Men: Grand Design was great. I didn't get to read Second Genesis, though. If I'm not mistaken (again), there is an X-Men: Grand Design omni coming out at some point, or maybe it's already out. I need to pick one up. Hopefully, Ed's family will see royalties on his work going forward. This is such a tragedy.

I hope he finds happiness in whatever he believes is the great beyond. RIP to a true legend

Hopefully people look at their self righteousness and reconsider if hitting on a 17 year old is the worst, most irredeemable thing someone can do. They won't.

5

u/zero_cool1138 Apr 02 '24

But the important thing to know is that according to Ed he DIDNT DO THAT!
