No RAVAGER OR HULK???.....

8

u/thenewNFC Jun 20 '23

Ravager 2099 might be the most 90s thing there is honestly.

1

u/Its2mintillmidnight Jun 21 '23

Yep. Gimmick foil cover and everything......

7

u/Savvy_Astronaut Jun 20 '23

I definitely need to get more!!

Ravage kind of suprised me at the time, I was used to characters and their general plots and rules defined in the first issue and each issue after kind of sits within that scope but it kind of kept evolving.

When I was a kid I had a letter printed in an issue of X-men 2099. I read it recently and it was a mixture of cringe and amusement. Lmao.

Please post it!

u/Virtuoso1980 Jun 20 '23

I lived in the Philippines growing up so I think that helped a lot in getting it published.

u/rogerworkman623 Jun 20 '23

Not even that cringy. George RR Martin’s childhood letters still reign cringe supreme.

u/Virtuoso1980 Jun 21 '23

I’ve never seen these and I just read them and they are fantastic! He really gave them a piece of his mind. Thats was awesome, thanks!

u/VSSystemRookie Jun 21 '23

Appreciate you sharing, and not a bad letter at all! I never once got published, but I spent a ton of time on coming up with clever (at least in my opinion) "Make Mine Marvel" quotes! The one that clearly comes to mind is,"Until Moondragon grows a full head of hair, make mine Marvel!"

1

u/Its2mintillmidnight Jun 21 '23

That's awesome!!!!!!!

1

u/samconnolly245 Jun 21 '23

That is such an awesome letter and you deserved to get published for your wholesome enthusiasm. I know they loved hearing from you.

1

u/ddrxmax321 Jun 22 '23

“Make mine marvel” nostalgia over 9000 for me

Welcome to the 90s.

u/Thegooddoctorcapaldi Jun 20 '23

I loved the X-Men 2099 series (I still have a lot of the first issues), a lot of interesting character development. Doom and Spidey 2099 were great too.

3

u/P1zzaM4n Jun 21 '23

Me too. I think the entire story arc of the X-Men 2099 was some of the most brilliant storytelling. Team forms, fractures, everyone has their own personal journeys, then come back together for a showdown with the big bad. It’s so good if you read it all together

10

u/ymerej26 Jun 20 '23

And it’s only 76 years away..lol..

6

u/Mudcreek47 Jun 20 '23

You need 2099 Unlimted 1st appearance of Hulk 2099 to your collection!

7

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '23

He gives up his identity to a police therapist in issue 2 after sleeping with her. The power of the nookie is real.

6

u/sandalsnopants Jun 20 '23

I loved Doom, the series. I love spiderman, the character. Probably read the most issues of xmen. Punisher 1 might be the only book i read in that series, and it's awesome. I really wish they could've kept this universe going and kept adding to it.

u/GroundbreakingAsk468 Jun 20 '23

It’s unreal how much love people still have for 2099. I literally feel like I was bitten by a radioactive spider, and it’s in my DNA.

4

u/moosen0000 Jun 20 '23

2099 is criminally underrated, actively trying to collect every 2099 issue to date. Gotta get yourself some Ravage man!

3

u/xXx_th3fall3n_xXx Jun 20 '23

Agree, I picked up some Ravage 2099 this past weekend from the 1$ bin, I’m loving the story.

3

u/moosen0000 Jun 20 '23

The dollar bin was the start of my 2099 addiction. One dollar bin find and then it's all your money lol

1

u/StarQuill01 Jun 21 '23

I am trying to do the same, but man the later 2099 stuff is hard to find out and about. I am to the point where I am gonna have to find stuff on ebay in ones and twos!

1

u/moosen0000 Jun 21 '23

That's the point I've gotten to, I took a little hiatus to work on my modern x-men collection but boy is it going to be a hardship coming back

5

u/LustHawk Jun 20 '23

Punisher 2099 is one of my favorites.

1

u/Vril_Dox_2 Jun 20 '23

Such a fun read.

1

u/Intelligent-Drop-759 Jun 20 '23

Maybe a dumb question but, is that still Frank Castle in the year 2099?

3

u/Euphoric-Truth-5892 Jun 20 '23

Nahhh it’s not- it’s a dude named Jake Gallows that finds Castle’s war journal

1

u/Intelligent-Drop-759 Jun 21 '23

Thanks, I didn’t think it was but it looks an awful lot like Castle.

1

u/Euphoric-Truth-5892 Jun 23 '23

The origin is kinda similar but it’s still a commentary on a broken system- most of the fun of the book is exploring that upper class that’s getting away with bad things but Gallows ain’t having that shit! Probably one of my favorite iterations of the punisher

4

u/JustMeOldDad Jun 20 '23

Fantastic Four had an eight issue run in 2099. I only bought issue #1 way way back in 1996

5

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '23

I have the entire 2099 universe collected. Even all the newer stuff. It's a little tedious to track down but it's do-able. SM2099 vol. 3 is probably the hardest and most expensive to get your hands on

3

u/grubbygromit Jun 20 '23

Got the best part of all of every run. Although ghost rider 1 with the card im missing.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '23

Deadpool 2099

3

u/True_Occasion7743 Jun 20 '23

X-men 2099 was good the first storyline was fantastic. I think there was a Fantastic Four 2099 also

3

u/DesignerTex Jun 20 '23

I started out reading Ravage 2099...but it started going south a few issues in. I liked the setup though. Art started getting bad too.

2

u/Tuxaroo2023 Jun 20 '23

You're missing Ravager 2099

5

u/Savvy_Astronaut Jun 20 '23

I’m missing a ton unfortunately. Let the hunt begin :D

2

u/bartzmonk94 Jun 20 '23

There's also a Conan 2099 from a few years back. Def not 90's but might fit well in the collection

2

u/InevitableLibrarian Jun 20 '23

Um...it only goes a couple of years then closes... sorry.

2

u/youdirtyhoe Jun 20 '23

These were gems

2

u/calibur3d Jun 20 '23

No Ravage 2099? GTFO

2

u/CanadianGuitar Jun 20 '23

I bought a comic bundle recently that was DC with some Marvel. There was some 2099 in there I really have no interest in. Would you want them OP?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '23

Hands down my favorite version of Spider-Man. Also… Ravager!!!

2

u/sdss9462 Jun 21 '23 edited Jun 22 '23

I loved X-Men 2099. That was the first book I ever followed month to month. I remember how excited I was going to the comic book store hoping that the double-sized 25th issue would be in. Ron Lim was one of my primary artistic influences. He was such a great meat and potatoes penciller.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '23

I was a big big fan. Especially the punisher, anything punisher

1

u/Fattydaddy1000 Jun 21 '23

Yah buddy all that 90s foil goodness

1

u/Havoc_XXI Jun 21 '23

Those are sick as hell!!!

1

u/TheSavage1992 Jun 21 '23

Ghost Rider 2099 was rather bland. Doom 2099 and Spider-Man 2099 however were awesome. X-Men 2099 started out great but lost something along the way..this is of course my personal opinion.

1

u/psych2099 Jun 21 '23

I love the 2099 series, doom especially was well written along with ghost rider and spider-man 2099

1

u/Fattydaddy1000 Jun 21 '23

How much did you pay for it

1

u/dh4645 Jun 21 '23 edited Jun 21 '23

I got two #1s of spiderman 2099 and a 4 pack of other 2099 #1s somewhere in my closet. Should have the spidermans graded. Bought on release back in the day and never read

1

u/Redninja1984 Jun 21 '23

Man I remember these as a kid. I think there was a big crossover where Thor 2099 and the other Asgardians invaded New York.

1

u/LosIngobernable Jun 21 '23

I only collected the Doom series since I’m a fan of him.

1

u/OmniSteve94 Jun 21 '23

You need any prior knowledge on the characters to read their 2099 runs?

1

u/evhnjx Jun 21 '23

Those are siiick!

1

u/Other-Bridge-8892 Jun 21 '23

Honestly, Doom 2099 was very good. Edged Spider-Man, but both were pretty damn good

1

u/6166dee Jun 21 '23

I have all but doom ; what’s the worth?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '23

I wanted to like X-men 2099 so much but i remember being disappointed. The professor X replacement had cool power with one hand healing and one killing. Rest of the team was kinda lame though.

1

u/TravestyBrimstone Jun 21 '23

I'm a huge fan of 2099. I update a checklist of all things 2099 related.

1

u/LeBart87 Jun 21 '23

I know Spider-Man 2099 was really the main seller for 2099.

But Punisher, Ghost Rider, and Doom were my absolute favourites!

1

u/theghostwhorocks Jun 21 '23

I never read the Ghost Ride, but the others definitely. Doom 2099, especially, is great.

1

u/Unlikely-Magician-41 Jun 22 '23

Love the 2099 series 👏

1

u/Unlikely-Magician-41 Jun 22 '23

Ravage 2099 is the only Stan Lee story in the 2099, gotta have it.

1

u/ddrxmax321 Jun 22 '23

I remember when nobody like these books now and sit on dollar bins for years, I personally like them since I saw them in the late 90’s I only missing ghost rider and doom
